MVMCP-Dec 2010- Cape Cod & Fall photos-Update 11/16

Hello April,
sounds like you have a good diet plan going...just be sure to eat enough calories or it will do the same as too many...I have a really hard time with the water too! and the exercise :rotfl: I hope you were able to get the charge straightened out...I don't think that is too cool charging you a tip what if you did not feel that was adaquate to the service...
can't wait to hear about your NYC weekend! I would love to travel there one day!
:wave2:

Thanks! The thing that makes me mad about that tip is that I DID leave a $20 cash tip, but they still charged $15 more over that! That reminds me that they haven't called me back yet. :sad2:
NYC was fun...but ugh- TOO expensive!!!!:scared1: 4 days until your trip!!!

I bought a few handbags & we started north up West Broadway towards Washington Square Park.

Along the way:

I spotted a tiny Italian place on the way & INSISTED on eating. I was STARVING. They had a $9.95 pasta & salad lunch special, so we all got that. It was good. Sorry- no photos of food this trip. I know you are disappointed in me. :guilty: I had baked ziti with ricotta & tomato sauce- nothing fancy.

The restaurant:

After we ate, we continued to walk towards the park. Along the way:

I was surprised to find the park under so much construction that it was unrecognizable! I didn’t take any photos of the construction and we continued on towards St. Mark’s Place, which has some interesting shopping. Along the way:

We walked up & down the block of St. Mark’s Place, found nothing to buy, then took the subway back up to 42nd street.

Oh! And I saw this (it says “Fall 2010” & I’m wondering if they’re putting in a new store):

We stopped in Sephora (makeup, hair, fragrance, and skin care products) and headed back to the hotel. My friend’s friend decided to not go to the Comedy Club with us, so she got McDonald’s & sat in the room. My friend & I met my other friend (who lives in NYC) at the Comedy Cellar on MacDougal Street. We were seated right away & all ordered dinner. Some of the comedians at the show were people I had seen on HBO Shows and Letterman, but the one I knew best was someone who used to be on MTV & Saturday Night Live- Colin Quinn. He was really funny. Some of the others were Jim Norton, Nick Griffin, and James Smith.

It was a lot of fun. Here are pics of the hotel elevators:

And Gym:

The next day we got up and went to see the Tim Burton exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art. It was the closing weekend and it was VERY crowded and VERY hot. There was no “flow” to the crowd, either- it was complete chaos.

We decided to walk back to Times Square & go to the M & M and Hershey’s stores. First the M & M’s store:

I'm all catch up!

I live outside NYC (in NJ), so it's always interesting to see others point of view of the place.

My ADRs are done (well, done-ish). I still want to book Pirates & Pals, but it is not available yet. My Disney Day are Oct 10-17, though I'm flying in a few days before to spent time with my goddaughter. :lovestruc

Isn't M&M World the cutest? And yes, there will be a new Disney store acomin'!

If those girls on America's Next Top Model don't stop fighting......wait, I take that back, I don't blame some of 'em for fighting with the other ones 'cause they are rather mean. I don't really have a favorite. I'd like to say I was rooting for the Southern girls but I'm not sure who stands out to me. Usually, by now, I have my favorite(s) picked out. :confused3

If I ever ever get the chance to get to New York City, I am calling you up. Hunter has always wanted to visit NYC. I know we would look like a bunch of hicks wandering around with no idea what to see or do.

Your pictures are absolutely fabulous!

I am all caught up again :thumbsup2. I love your pictures of New York. My dad was from Brooklyn and I hope that one day I can go and see it.

WOW! Great pictures from NY! I sooooo.... want to go....
Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes

Have you ever done the Top of the Rock?? I LOVED that. It was awesome! I would love to do the NBC studio tour next time, too.
Darn! You get there on my last day. MK has EMH that night, though. Maybe we can figure out a place to meet up for a drink or a ride or something.
M & M World was SO cool!!! I had to literally keep telling myself "you really don't need that" because I wanted to buy everything! :rotfl: I ended up leaving with 3 gifts for people & a pen and post-its for myself. Not too bad!

That's so funny that you say that, Lisa- I really don't have a favorite either & I usually have my favorite picked out by the end of episode one. The so-called "plus size" girl is the only one I kind of lean towards this time, though.
NYC was really awesome. There are a TON of fun "touristy" things to do, but I have also gotten to a few cool places because my friend lives there & knows some fun things that the "locals" do. Trust me- I was walking around looking up in the air & at all the sights, so I KNOW I looked like a tourist! The New Yorkers are used to it. :lmao: I went to a silly restaurant called "Jekyll & Hyde" that I bet Hunter would like- it was a little expensive, but SO fun! I have photos for later in the report. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Dana! I went to Brookly last year & it is absolutely gorgeous. You would love it! There is a nice park right in Brooklyn under the Brooklyn bridge that has beautiful landscaping.

Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes

Thanks!!! I'm happy that you posted! :goodvibes I have a ton of photos left to post. I have to say it again- the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) was just awesome.

We went back to the hotel to drop off shopping bags. We sat for a few to rest- though I really wanted to keep going. So we had a little while before our “Top of the Rock” time & decided to go check out Rockefeller Center.

You guys know how excited I was to get to the top of a tall building at sunset & take photos. We walked right into the Top of the Rock entrance on 50th Street and we were taken right up to the top in no time. The elevator to the top has a clear ceiling and there are little blue lights that line all four corners of the elevator shaft, so you can see them all the way to the top.
totrelev.jpg

They let us off at the 67th floor, but told us that there are 2 more levels that we can take an escalator and walk up to. The first level had plexiglass around the edge, I’m not sure if the second did, but the top level did not. I spent most of my time at the top. It was chilly & windy, but the view was SO incredible, that it didn’t bother me ONE bit. I loved every second of it. Here are some of the photos I took:

I can't express to you how much that was worth the $20. It was just awesome- I want to go back every time I am in the city. After that, we walked over to Jekyll & Hyde. It is a silly place with “scary” animatronics, but very entertaining. Along the way:

We made our way over to Jekyll & Hyde on 6th Ave between 58th & 59th streets. I love the façade of the building:

The reason it is blurry is because as I was taking the picture he started asking me if I was from the New York Post & it startled me!! Thank goodness someone else walked by & got most of the conversation with him because I don’t like having the “spotlight” on me.
We ate our meals- mine was very good (a veggie burger & awesome seasoned waffle fries). I got a drink in a souvenir glass:

After dinner, I noticed it was someone’s birthday. I thought to myself “some poor, unsuspecting person is about to be mortified”…little did I know- that was me! It WAS NOT my birthday- my birthday is October 12th (the day after I get back from Disney). My friend, Renata, just thought she would be funny. I am SOOOOOO getting her back for that one!!!!! After dinner, we explored the 4 levels of the restaurant:

looks like a great time for your weekend! I love the pictures of the city from the top of the Rock...great shots!...don't think I would like eating at Jekyl and Hydes (maybe around Halloween :lmao: )
have a great day! April

Holy moley! I would have never ever been able to go to the top of that building and take pictures. I am scared to death of heights. I might have been able to take the elevator but I highly doubt that too.

The Jekyll & Hyde restaurant was cool. Had you ever eaten there before? I know you had to enjoy it since you are a horror movie junkie.

Thanks! Jekyll & Hyde is silly, but definitely a "once every few years" place to go. Your trip is almost here!!!!!!! :cool1: Just think of me here in the 50 degree weather in MA while you are enjoying the gorgeous mid-80's temperatures in FL!!

Lisa- my friend is the same way!!! She couldn't look up in the elevator OR go near the edge at the top. There were a few times that I felt like I was losing my balance, too, near the edge. It is definitely high up there. :scared1: It was SO worth it, though.

I went to Jekyll & Hyde once before in 2002. It was a whole different experience, though, because we were on a different floor. I actually wanted to go somewhere different this time, but everyone else thought it was "too far". It was ON Manhattan, too! As far as I'm concerned, everything on Manhattan is "close". Of course, I can walk & walk & walk forever on flat ground. It is all of that "Disney" walking that has trained me. :rotfl:

I think I just like that place because it reminds me a little of the Adventurer’s Club with all of the silly characters & skits.
We called it a night after that. We walked to 7th Ave where Renata could get the subway home. Along the way we saw the thinnest building I have ever seen (sorry the photo is so dark):

Then Carnegie Hall:

I wanted to walk back to the hotel (about 13 blocks), but was outvoted. We took a cab. Here is my last photo from the cab:

Then my last photo of the night:
IMG_4265.jpg

Sadly, the trip was over. I woke up at 8 the next morning- my friend & her friend slept until 10am. I fidgeted about as quietly as I could until then. I waited for them to get ready and then we parted ways at the hotel entrance. I took a cab to Penn station. The dang cab driver dropped me off a block away. Then I got to the station & waited for the train. At the time they were supposed to announce which track we should board on, they announced the train would be 15 minutes late. A little while later, they announced that the train was delayed outside the station. After waiting quite a while, they announced the track we were supposed to board on & a huge crowd of people lined up to funnel down the escalator to the track. Then they announced that we could get there through a different escalator, so I ran over there. I booked it down to the second to last car and found a seat. The train left at 1:40- 40 minutes after our departure time. The ride was ok- I had bought the UK version of Cosmo to read & I read the entire thing. I also read this month’s US Cosmo issue. I arrived in Providence & was very happy to see John. We walked over to the Cheesecake Factory in Providence because I was STARVING & had never been there before. That place was SO crowded, but we got seated quickly. There weren’t a ton of options on the menu for me, but I decided that I wanted 3 of the small or “snack” plates instead of an entrée. John ordered the avocado egg rolls for an appetizer- they were to die for. They were crispy on the outside and all avocado on the inside. John had one of the steaks for an entrée & he said it was ok. For my 3 small plates, I had a beet salad, fried zucchini, and edamame. The beet salad had red & gold beets, spinach, goat cheese, candied pecans, and a vinaigrette. It was very good. The fried zucchini was great- the breading was light & flaky and it was not greasy at all. It almost seemed baked. We both loved that. The edamame was great. I don’t know if you have ever had it, but it is soy beans in the pod, usually steamed & salted. You just eat the beans from the pod. I love the stuff & have it instead of popcorn while watching movies. I usually add fresh lemon juice or Tabasco, though. This was John’s first time trying it & he loved it, too. I was a bit surprised that he liked it so much. We brought home 2 different kinds of cheesecake. He ordered banana cream pie & I got the dulce de leche. John has been so tired that he still hasn’t tried it! I took one bite of each on Monday night & I can tell you- they are both AWESOME. I got home at about 8:30pm, took a shower, watched “The Pacific” & went to sleep. That was it!

I love all the pics from your New York trip. I could even see my office building in a couple of them. (I work in the building just north of the GE building). Our offices from the top floors have that great view of the park since the rest of the buildings north of us aren't quite as tall as our building.

It looks like it was a wonderful break away!

I was trying to get Garden Grill because I wanted to try their vegetarian version of eggs benedict. I couldn't get any time that morning. I wonder if they are going to rehab the restaurant or something.

Are they still serving breakfast? For some reason I thought they were only serving dinner now. I could be wrong though.

I didn't realize that they stopped serving breakfast. Dang!
