MVMCP and migraines

After a solid year of non-stop migraines I had surgery in July to implant electrodes in my head. This reduced them from 100% of the time to about 50%, which was a vast improvement. So a couple of months ago I went ahead and booked MVMCP and a weekend at the parks for this coming weekend. (We were at WDW in May for my niece's wedding, and I ended up sleeping in the first aid center at MK while the kids did the rides. This is supposed to help make up for that and the crappy year in general we had.) I also managed to puke all over the DME bus (yes, that was me ) on the way back to the airport. Migraine sufferers will understand.

Anyway, now I'm back to nearly 100% migraines again. I really don't need this. I really do need a good time. My 9yo really does need a good time, and not Mom in the first aid center again. And certainly not puking. I've been hoarding my Imitrex injections, so at least I have that in my favor, and I'm going to take my nausea meds before I ride rides or get on the bus whether I'm nauseated or not yet.

If you think of me this weekend :) send anti-migraine thoughts my way, please!

I'm so sorry to hear you are suffering so much. My dh gets terrible migraines too. He was recently put on topamax which he takes daily, scheduled for injections and takes naproxen & maxalt when he feels a migraine coming on. I don't know if that helps at all but ya never know.

I've tried 'em all, Teenee. Surgery was a last resort. I'm going to start nerve blocks in some different nerves in January. (The surgery involved the occipital nerve at the back of my head.)

Oh my goodness, you poor thing!!

Boy, do I understand the puking thing. It's just uncontrollable when you have a migraine. I puked and then passed out on my first day of high school. That pretty much shot any chance of popularity I ever had. I almost had to repeat my sophomore year because I missed so many days due to migraines. My English teacher informed my class I was "a beauty queen who comes to school whenever she feels like it."

I'm pretty well managed now. I take 200mg of Topomax a day, along with 225mg of Naproxen every day. Plus I have Imitrex and Amerge for actual migraines. I also don't eat cheese, chocolate, red wine, red grapes or processed foods.

My worst migraine ever was when I was 15. I went to the mall with three friends. They stopped at the Godiva store and bought truffles. I knew I shouldn't, but I wanted to fit in. I ended up getting a shot of Demerol and going home with a Stadol nasal spray. I basically slept for four days.

I hope you have a wonderful, pain-free trip!

Oh, Barb, I can't imagine! I suffer from migraines too. On top of feeling lousy I feel guilt in how it affects my loved ones!

Barb,

My thoughts will be with you. I have suffered from migraines since my teen years, but thankfully never as bad as you are describing. Unfortunately, it appears that my DD9 is following in my footsteps as she had a headache Sunday night that led to vomiting.

Good luck on your trip and your follow-up medical care.

Oh, my heart is breaking for you. Only a migraine sufferer can understand your torture.
I am sending along prayers and pixie dust. I have no advice, because I'm sure you and your doctors have tried EVERY avenue.
Hugs and prayers. Take care of yourself. :flower3:

I can't imagine. If I had migraines that much (and I do worry about such a senario sometimes) that would be the end of me. I couldn't manage.

I used to get migraines often, like 3-4 per month. But nowadays it's more like 3 a year. Much better. :) I finally figured out that my migraines were caused by chiropratoc issues - basically twisting my neck in a certain direction was all it took to trigger one! Nowadays I try to be VERY careful about posture and I never look down and to the right (that's the BAD direction for my neck), but I still get the headaches from time to time. I had one yesterday night as I fell to sleep, but fortuately it seemed to be a "little" migraine and I feel ok. But it worrys me since I don't remember twisting my neck. But they do pop up still, but not as often as they used to be.

OP - best of luck with your treatment!

my DH has severe migraines, has had them for over 15 years - last visit to disney, we spent 5 out of 6 days daily in a park first aid station (the other day we just never left the room....)

for this trip, DH is now on Diovan (an anti-seizure, twice daily, to prevent migraines) - works sometimes, but i'm bringing along the Imitrex and Maxalt just to be safe....

can relate to your pain - i see it in DH every time he has a migraine.
