MUSTS with a 10 Year old! Help me!

Don't forget the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game! You can pick up a set of cards at the fire station (1 per person, per day) and you go to different places around the MK. Merlin gives your child a mission; they have to decide which cards they will use to defeat the villains. I plan to do this with my soon-to-be 12 year old next week. It's a good activity for when ride lines get too long!.

I never heard of this game before. :confused3 It sounds interesting. We might have to check it out.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi - My mom surprised my daughter to a Disney vacation for her 10th birthday! The last time we were there was 6 years ago. I am working on planning now - we are doing more of a budget trip this time around but wanting to just have fun with the girls! (will just be my mom (65), Me (35), and DD (10)) on this trip!

Please help me making sure I don't miss anything super cool for my daughter! Last time we did the autographs, pins, etc (she still has her pins from 6 years ago) are these things we should do again? WE have a few dining reservations set and I am working on maybe one more - we are not on the dining plan this time around as hubby is the foody!

Only thing special is I set up the Pirates League Mermaid Package for my DD for the morning we are hitting MK - for 9:00 to get into the park a little early :)

All of the "big" girls rides! Hit every mountain. At 10 all of my kids (2DD and 1DS) wanted the big rides, with the others mixed in. She will also enjoy the shows like Nemo, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Heck, she is at the perfect age to enoy all things big and small. Not quite too old for the princess stuff and not too young for the big girl stuff. Have a great time!!

My DD wants to do the bigger rides this trip! We are already planning on Space mountain and a few others... :) She is excited about the mermaid pacakage at Priates League and did say she didn't want the dress just the make up done... :) :yay: She asked about an autograph book and I am wondering if shes too old for that...

She is definitely not too old for an autograph book! She will love it but, keep in mind you will spend a lot of time getting the autographs (don't know how long your trip will be so I thought I would mention that). Last summer my DS11 had he and I getting autographs everyday. If you get a character meal you can cut some standing in line time out. Also, taking or getting something special to get autographed is great. The book gets tossed aside but something else like a backpack you will carry every time you go to WDW will be special. If you do something like a backpack though make sure you take a sharpie. They don't sell them anywhere at WDW. Have fun!

This is so true! And it is why I am looking for to this trip! The first few days we are there it is just going to be me and my DD who is ten. So, I have 1900 Park Faire, and a dinner at Boma's planned for us. Boma's if for the animals! Then later in the week, my DH and son will be joining us.

I also have our first dinner at Crystal Palace. At first, I got it since we added onto our trip well about 30 days ago and it was really about the only option available in the MK. We will arrive mid-day and will head to MK. So, I didn't want to take time to leave MK. I asked her about it and she thought it sounded fun, so I kept it and am looking forward to it. I think it will help us both find the inner kid inside!

Yay! How fun! DD and I had a girls only trip last October, she was/is 10.
We did it all! Mermaid package at Pirate League our first day, BBB in the castle our last day before an early dinner at BOG. MNSHHP!
We ate so well *free dining*
Ohana
Sci Fi Dine In
Garden Grill
Cinderella's Happily Ever After
Crystal Palace *early breakfast!
Coral Reef
BOG
Hoop De Doo!
I recently asked my girl her favorite part of our last visit, she said "Epcot!" *World Showcase/the Perry the platypus game, Hello Kitty corner of the store in Japan, Marie display in the France store, heaven for her :) we enjoyed the Morocco shop too.
She also had a lot of fun with Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

Maybe Pressed Pennies to collect? My daughter just turned 10 so Im on the same page. Im sure she will have a blast:beach:

My daughter has been doing the mountains for several trips - the last couple of trips (8 and 9) - she has LOVED...
The drawing class at Hollywood Studios (free)
all the rides/shows
Pirates and Pals Firework cruise (maybe the day she does the mermaid package) - like better than the Wishes Dessert Party
Pressed Pennies

This trip (May 10 year old) adding
Both water parks
Disney Quest
Mini Golf (all included in water parks and more package)
revisiting the animation classes
and bringing more quarters and pennies.
Also continuing the pin trading
Getting a Hidden Mickey book for her Easter basket, as she has enjoyed looking for them before

She also saved her money before we went and had a great time spending her allowance/birthday money on whatever she wanted.

We just got back last week and our oldest is 9.5 (she turns 10 in July).
She *loved* the pick a pearl in Japan, and it's a really nice keepsake that she can always have to remember the trip so the price didn't bother me. The pick a pearl is $17 and the setting my daughter chose was $22. One thing to note, the necklace settings do NOT include the chain necklace. I wish I had known that ahead of time because I just couldn't bring myself to splurge on the extra $16 per chain (both of our daughters did it) since they are less at home.
Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom was a huge hit, she likes the Harry Potter stuff though so I guess maybe it depends on interests but if you ask her what her favorite park of MK was that is one of the first things she mentions.
She really wasn't too interested in the princesses, at least not like my 7 year old was, but she did enjoy getting autographs and she asks everyday if I've developed the pictures to add to her autograph book. You can get autograph books right at Disney in most shops for less than $10 that have the photo page on the other side of the autograph page.
She loved the pressed pennies, I printed off pages of what pressed pennies were where and she had fun looking at them and deciding which ones she wanted to get at the park we were going to that day.
She liked the kidcot stations more than I expected in Epcot.
She LOVED pin trading, and for a normally shy girl I liked how it really opened up conversation between her and some of the castmembers, especially the ones in the World Showcase that weren't from the US. She traded pins with a CM in Norway who was from Arandale (might have butchered the spelling, the kingdom where Anna and Elsa in Frozen where from) and she mentions that everytime when she is talking about them.
Rides will probably really depend, she is a thrill seeker like her mom and dad ;) she loved the bigger coasters. Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, RNRollercoaster, Tower or Terror, Expedition Everest were some of her favorites.
She also loved the Animation Academy in Hollywood Studios, she is still practicing her Mickey/Minnie drawing skills in her spare time and if we had had time she wanted to go back for another class to learn a different character. She has always loved artistic/drawing stuff though.
Another thing to consider since you said it's a budget trip, 10 is the 'magic' age at Disney where you pay adult pricing for kids. This actually played a big factor for us in scheduling our trip when we did. We decided to go before she actually turned 10...so if you haven't solidified dates, maybe go the week of her birthday with her birthday being the last day or two? Then you are only paying the adult pricing on her for some of the trip.

My son loves collecting pressed pennies but, I did not know you could find out in advance where to get which ones. Where did you get a list? My son would be ecstatic over that! Heck, I would not mind looking at it either. :goodvibes

Thank you all so much we leave in 11 days!!!!!!!!! AHHHH - shes very interested in the Soscoer thing and MK I hope i can get it figured out for her!!! Might be fun for us while we are touring the park we are doing MK 2 days of our trip
