Hi - My mom surprised my daughter to a Disney vacation for her 10th birthday! The last time we were there was 6 years ago. I am working on planning now - we are doing more of a budget trip this time around but wanting to just have fun with the girls! (will just be my mom (65), Me (35), and DD (10)) on this trip!

Please help me making sure I don't miss anything super cool for my daughter! Last time we did the autographs, pins, etc (she still has her pins from 6 years ago) are these things we should do again? WE have a few dining reservations set and I am working on maybe one more - we are not on the dining plan this time around as hubby is the foody!

Only thing special is I set up the Pirates League Mermaid Package for my DD for the morning we are hitting MK - for 9:00 to get into the park a little early :)

Sounds like a fun trip! We are going in August with my 10 year old and I'm having trouble coming up with stuff for her, it's not an easy age!

I want to do Agent P in Epcot and also maybe the pick a pearl in Japan.

I thought about getting her hair cut at Harmony Barber shop but I'm not sure. I hear they put sparkles etc. in it so I thought she might like that but I'm not sure.

I'm also thinking of taking her for surfing lessons at Typhon Lagoon since she has expressed an interest about that.

Have fun!

My oldest DD was 11 when we went. The surfing lessons and SCUBA rental were really the only things she was interested above and beyond touring the parks. She snorkeled Shark Reef several times. Crushin Gusher was probably her favorite ride, loved Bugs Life, Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, Safari, Dinosaur, Soarin, pretty much everything at Blizzard Beach, and the stunt shows at DHS.

I have a 10 yr old boy, so a bit different. He is looking forward to doing Pirate League again. He's expressed interest in both the Pirate & Pals firework cruise (doesn't work with our schedule for this trip) and the Wishes Dessert Party - which we are doing. Something he did last year when he was 9 was the kids Pirates cruise and he enjoyed that, but then he had a brother to go with and didn't have to go alone. Otherwise, he's a huge Disney nut and just looking forward to riding rides and enjoying the trip.
Oh and everytime he requests a meal at Chef Mickey's, no matter his age!

You also might do the Pick A Pearl in Japan at Epcot. I think it is about $17 to pick an oyster and they have some inexpensive setting there too. I am doing that with my daughter on our next trip.

I am heading down toWDW in 8 days with my DD who is ten. She is really looking forward to going on the Safari ride at AK since she loves animals.

I have a dining reservation at 1900 Park Faire that I think she will enjoy because of the ugly stepsisters and the prince, she is really not into the princesses but is a little romantic so it is a surprise for her.

We have also made plans for the Hawaiian luau. We have never been but she is fascinated with Hawaii and I don't think we will ever get there, it might be fun for all thr of you.

When she was 9 on our last trip I took her to the Barbershop inMK. The put her hair in a ponytail with glitter and sprinkles. She loved int and it was only 5 or 10 dollars. I can't remember the price. I plan to do this again too

Just keep in mind at ten kids are at that in between stage and still like doing things a littler kid would too along with more grown up stuff

This will be her first time on Big Thunder Mountain and possibl Space Mountain. So it will be an exciting trip just for these

Is pick a pearl something you need to schedule in advance? Or can you just go to Japan and do it :) I think my daughter may like this :)

So they will just style without a haircut? I have been trying to look into this but I can't find much information. Did you make an appointment in advance? If so how far in advance?

Thanks!

We just stopped in, it was mid afternoon and only one person ahead of us, we visited with the barber for six minutes or so until it was our turn. I had them just trim the ends of her hair which she needed nothing else

I found the current information on the Disney site. The barbershop is called the Harmony Barbershop. There is a number you can call to make an appointment. Haircut is 15.00.

My DD mentioned it too. So I think we will buy one while we are there and get some autographs. I figure she can add photos when we return on the other pages and it will be a great memory book for her

No one is too old for autographs at Disney you see lots of adults only standing in line for photos and autographs

Thanks! We are going in August and I wasn't sure how busy it was as a whole, thanks!

Thanks everyone - I will get her an autograph book I like the scrapbook idea :) That would be a fun project for her when we get back :) she loves doing crafts and projects...

As of right now we are doing the Mermaid Package at Pirate League and I booked the Afternoon Tea at the GF for one afternoon for the two of us :)

We're going to the luau at the Polynesian. I would think she would enjoy that. I know I'm excited :)

We will be going to the luau too for the first time! I am looking forward to it and so is my DD who is 10.

We have already picked out her outfit and I have a real grass skirt I bought from the Dollar Tree that she plans to wear too.

I just found more information on the barbershop on Disney's site. It is called the Harmony Barber Shop and haircuts are 15.00 for children, 19.00 for adults. I think it was 5.00 extra for the sprinkles and stuff.

There is also a number listed you can call to make an appointment. It is 407-WDW-PLAY.

Here is the information I found listed under Events and Tours

Everything at Walt Disney World Resort is fun, and haircuts are no exception!

Whether it’s your first haircut or your hundredth, the friendly and experienced barbers at Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street, U.S.A. will entertain you while making sure you look amazing. You may even be treated to the musical talents of the Dapper Dans, Disney’s very own barbershop quartet! And there’s a special My First Haircut package for children that includes commemorative Mickey Ears and a certificate.

Don't forget the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game! You can pick up a set of cards at the fire station (1 per person, per day) and you go to different places around the MK. Merlin gives your child a mission; they have to decide which cards they will use to defeat the villains. I plan to do this with my soon-to-be 12 year old next week. It's a good activity for when ride lines get too long!.
