Since I just found out my beloved Huhot mongolian grill is no longer open in Orlando:sick::sick::sick:....I am now trying to find several differnt options for our week long vacation starting on the 19th......

looking for something differnt/exciting.....

what are some of the "must do" offsite restaurants that yall like while in Orlando?????

Micro breweries???
chinese??? Thai???
Vietnamese???

anything new and exciting will be great!!!!!!!

texas de brazil, if you don't have one by you @ home, might as well give a try

Definitely not expensive but YUMMY...Sweet Tomatoes! Huge salad bar, soups, breads, baked potatoes...everything is always so fresh. November can't get here fast enough :yay:

We found a neat Italian place off of International drive called maggiano's....Great food, Great atmosphere and lots of shopping close by. In the Point of Orlando shopping area.

Miller's Ale House.

Order your fav "Ale", the Chicken Nachos Doubled-Layered (it is $5 extra for the 2nd layer but OH so worth it) and finish with a Capt. Jack dessert. You WILL thank me, I promise you.

Ale House is basically a sports bar. Busy on weekend nights, busy when a big sports event on TV. Still family friendly.

If you like BBQ...

I second Sweet Tomatoes! It's in the Crossroads Shopping Center. It's a great place and if you join their "Club Veg" they were send you 2-4-1 buffet coupons which being the cost down even more :).

I also really like Ran Getzu of Tokyo. They have outstanding authentic Japanese food and *great* sushi. BUT ... it's not a place for the budget minded. Although we went there on a traditionally non-busy day (maybe a Monday?) and many of the sushi selections were half price.

Do you dig seafood? We love Joe's crab shack. It's about 3 miles from DTD and the food is great.

We make it a point to go to Maggiano's (already have our reservation for June and Mypoints gift card:thumbsup2) and Miller's Orlando Ale House !!!
Love both of these places!!! This year we're going to try Sweet Tomatos..
can't wait!

How many of these are privately owned restaurants and not chains?

I really want to avoid chain restaurants when we eat out. I am making notes of these restaurants for our next trip.

I think most of the places mentioned here are chains. Although I think Ran Getzu is a chain of only two restaurants ... one in Orlando and one in Tokyo (and I have been to both ;)).

Why not Google the places and see how many restaurants they have? I know for a fact that Sweet Tomatoes is a franchise chain ... but it's REALLY good! The salad bar is to die for.

Subbing!!! ;) Looking for great eats while there for Celebration 5 in August! :thumbsup2

Bahama Breeze. It is a chain restaurant but a good one.

I think it is difficult to avoid chain restaurants in Orlando, however they tend to have smaller or different chains than in the rest of the US.

I know here on LI we don't get many of the "standard" chains...

Tu Tu Tango is a chain with a few locations...It is a great small plate restaurant with an artist theme. When in Orlando, we love to go there.
