I am sharing a DVC suite with a friend. We are two independent adults. We will not always be dining or touring together.

She wants to be on the dining plan.
I do not want the dining plan.

Can we both have what we want?

no, sorry...everyone registered in the room must be on the plan or not on the plan.

Only if you book two separate room reservations. If a party chooses a dining plan, everyone registered in the same room must be on the same dining plan for the full duration of the stay.

You can't have one person in a room on a dining plan and the other not on a dining plan, unless the person who does not want to be on the plan is not officially registered as a guest in that room. (An unregistered guest would have no room key and no access to Disney's Magical Express if needed). I don't do dining plans but I'm sometimes allowed to add a guest at check-in on a DVC reservation and collect a key for them. I don't know how that works if there is a dining plan on the reservation, and the new guest wouldn't be on the reservation in time to use DME from the airport.

You can do this the same with or without a dining plan. However, the same issue would exist with DME and the person not on the reservation would not be able to use it. The added person would simply not receive that dining plan.

This is great news! My brother will be joining us about halfway through our vacation and staying in our room. I didn't want to have to add him to the reservation and put him on the Deluxe Dining Plan as there's no way we would be able to use all those credits. I'll just add him to the room at check-in (let them know what day he'll arrive) and know all will be ok! Seriously, the DISboards are just great! I've learned SO much from here. WOO! :cool1:

Just be aware with this, if you're going over the 2 adults in the room count, you will be charged an additional amount per night for the 3rd adult. I believe it's like $10/night value, $15/night mod, $25/night deluxe.

And I'm doing the same thing with my mom in Sept, except she's arriving the same day I am and staying Thu, Fri, Sat, and Sun (she's local though, so no worries about ME for her).

There's no extra adult charge on a DVC reservation. All you have to worry about on those reservations is exceeding room capacity.

For a regular package reservtion there is that extra charge for more than 2 adults.

Um, yeah. Good point :). (Doh, I forgot about the whole DVC thing and went into auto-disclaimer mode!)
