Here's a link to the NY Times article:

Or, something even more depressing:

Rent will be the seventh-longest running Broadway show in history.
Rent premiered on Broadway on April 29th, 1996. Rent took its composer Jonathan Larson over seven years to create.
I seriously can't come up with a response that will appropriately show how upset I am right now... because Rent is more than just a musical, you know?
Tickets are already sold out for the final show, I think there are a few left for the June 1st matinee.
I know we have a lot of rentheads on here, so I thought you'd all like to know.

Hopefully in 10 years or so a kick but revival will rock the Broadway world.
I've seen it twice already, and aboslutely lovvveee it. Soooo sad to see it go, but it has had a great run!
I was shocked for a second...but sadly, it's time had come. I read a review on BroadwayWorld where someone had just seen the show, and the theater was empty. And the cast was flat and basically just going through the steps. But I agree with Princess_Dot, hopefully there will be a revival someday, just to bring the Rent spirit alive again. Anyway. Very sad news. But wow, has it had a great run. My dad says he'll try to get me tickets to the June 1st matinee. I sure hope so!
