Music question for past and future Escape Brides (and all others wishing to share)...

You can try, but I think they will try very hard to dissuade you - not because they want to make a buck, just because the sound will not be optimal at your locations. At the Attic, for example, if you only had a boombox, you wouldn't be able to hear the music very well inside if it were outside, and vice versa. Plus, someone from your party will have to run ahead and set it up.

In Italy, they will probably want you to have a sound system anyway just so the groom and officiant can be miked. Their rule of thumb is if you have more than 25 guests at an outdoor site, you need amplification. For me, I didn't want one of my guests to have to basically miss experiencing the ceremony to run the sound. The reception is easier because you can put it on and leave it on.

But if it's really important to you, talk to your planner about it!

Thanks for your input. I have more than 25 so I will need it in Italy. And I want everyone at the reception to be able to hear the music as well. Fingers crossed that the Disney tech doesn't screw up my music for the ceremony.

I haven't gotten that far yet. The music is not a biggie for us and we aren't having a dance reception, just lunch. I think we are just going to stick with the songlist and pick from there - except "When You Wish Upon A Star" is our theme and that song isn't on the list!

Also, for those who have had their reception at Ariels have you used a boombox?? I just think 1,500 for a disc jockey is a little high and would love to use that money elsewhere.

The sound system you rent from Disney ($250 and up) is a pro set-up with a mixer and huge speakers - it sounds no different than if you had a DJ or hired a CD sound system from Disney.

The audio quality of the various portable iPod sound systems you might buy and bring yourself varies. I'd definitely check them out in the store before buying.
