Is there any hope of this getting extended past the current August 27th date?

I hope so! We saw this in June and it was a fantastic show.

It's so nice to have a live pops orchestra in the parks! Disney is clearly tuned in to the success of other shows around the country (Bugs Bunny on Broadway, The Music of Harry Potter, etc), which are all performed by small symphony orchestras. Haven't seen it but sure would like to.

No word on if it'll extend past August 27th. If it does then we should hear soon.

It's gotten mixed reviews so idk if it'll continue or not.

DH was just talking to me about this last night. I was telling him about the NYE Pixar party at CR, which sounds like Pixar Live without the music part. Same characters are listed to be appearing. Even the boot camp and Sarge. He started talking about how much he enjoyed that show. I told him that it was not real popular with a lot of folks and he was shocked. Funniest part, if you were to have looked up a definition of the type who would dislike Pixar Live, DH would have been at the top of the list. Everything about it is usually things he hates. Yet it reached him.

Me, I loved it. Except it made me cry, dang it. And I didn't have tissues or napkins handy. I should have expected it. Between Toy Story 3 and Up! I am a blubbering idiot.

I read that the August 27 end date was a confirmed end date. Disney's site specifically mentions that the final show is Aug. 27. I'm a little bummed, as this is something I would very much appreciate and won't get there until 9/2. I suspect that many Disney park goers didn't find it engaging enough. I think you have to be able to appreciate live musical score performances. It is basically movie clips played to a live orchestra (with a couple of live character appearances sprinkled in). I'd guess park guests expected something more interactive like a sing along or something like that.
