What movie is the music from that starts around minute 12 in the Soarin' Que music? (It is also in the other tracks.) The last file - Soarin' Theme - has it and is much shorter.

I could swear this is from a Danny Elfman movie score written in the past 10 years or so. But I can't for the life of me remember which movie it is. Film companies often use this clip in promotions for new movies before the actual score for the new film is finished.

Which of course leads me to believe that all of the Soarin' music is from Danny Elfman...

But what movie is that main theme from?!?!?!?!?!? :confused3

Not 100% positive but I believe all the music is original to the attraction.

Also not 100%, but I'm quite sure Elfman did not do the music. I'm a big fan and it sounds nothing like his stuff and nobody has commented that he did it. There is a lot written about every by his fans for every piece he does work on.

It sounds more like Howard (Lord of the Rings) Shore IMO.

I did some quick checking and it isn't Elfman or Shore. The composer of the Soarin' music is the late Jerry Goldsmith, who has done a lot of films...

But I'm 99% certain that the theme I mention around minute 12 has been used in a movie, and subsequently in a lot of movie trailers.

But I'm on the hunt!

It's possible the Soarin theme has been used in trailers. Lots of trailers use music that is from different sources. It's why many trailers are never seen again and not included on the DVD of the movie. The music rights were not secured.

It's also possible it is just VERY similar to other themes. I find it hard to believe sometimes that people get away with how similar supposedly different themes sound. But given the people that watch this stuff, I don't believe Disney would use something straight out of another movie. Big trouble could come from that.

But if Goldsmith wrote the Soarin music, he would certainly be allowed to use something from a previous score in his own new creation - something borrowed...

As Stravinsky said, "The best composers don't imitate, they copy."

Incedentally, Hans Zimmer is evidently facing a lawsuit from the corporation that holds the rights to the music of Gustav Holst because they contend that something Zimmer wrote is much too similar to sections of Holst's "The Planets" (specifically, the first movement "Mars", if I am not mistaken.)

Heck, Zimmer also ripped off Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in "Pirates of the Caribbean II", but then again, James Horner ripped off the same piece in the score for "Glory" in 1991. A lot of people have ripped off Carmina Burana...

Still haven't been able to figure out which movie it came from, if it did...

I haven't listened to your links yet (downloading them now), but I know that some of the area musci right out side of Soarin at DCA is from the Last Starfighter. It drove my wife and I crazy until we figured it out, but it definately was Last Starfighter. I am not sure if this is what you are talking about though.

edit to add: Nope not the Last Starfighter but I have heard that music near the 12min mark before many places.

nope.

(havent listened to that peticular download...)

I'm SURE the music you'r thinking of is from Hook. Which is John Williams. Everytime we're in line for Soarin, I smile, because I love the music from that movie.

If im wrong, i apologize in advance. But ive ridden Soarin enough to know what you're talking about... i think.

I'm confused by the back and forth between the actual Soarin theme and the other music played in the area so I'll just say this:

1) There all kinds of music played around different areas and in the queues, many times from other sources. Disney gets the rights to those and they exactly as you would hear them elsewhere.

2) The actual theme is "supposed" to be original. Even though the composer is the same on different pieces, the themes themselves are owned by different publishers. I agree that many sound very similar. In fact I see very little difference in some themes by the same composer, but they are indeed different enough to count as different.

There is also music from the soundtrack of "Dragon-The Bruce Lee Story", which has been used in several movie trailers, including "Forrest Gump". I don't know much about Bruce Lee, but I love this music and bought the soundtrack years ago. Do you think that is what you are referring to?

Sandy

Go to Amazon.com and search for the soundtrack, click on the sample "Victory at Ed Parker's and see if this is it. Randy Edelman did the soundtrack.

We have a winner! The music came from:

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

Tracks 4, 9, 13, etc.

I’ve never seen this particular movie because I’m not a martial arts fan, but I have already ordered my copy of the soundtrack and should have it by Friday or early next week. Woo hoo!

Composer is Randy Edelman, who also composed the scores for other movies such as Last of the Mohicans and Gettysburg.

The other theme is from The American President, composed by Marc Shaiman.

Not a long soundtrack (39 minutes) but very beautiful, full of many rich suspensions and anticipations, etc. Some nice, relaxing stuff.

Golf4food,

I know you will be pleased with this CD. All of the songs are wonderful, with the exception of the last one. (Hong Kong Cha-Cha). It's really out of place on this wonderful CD. But I guess it was part of the movie. LOL Enjoy!

Glad I was able to help you find it.

Anyone else have trouble downloading "Soarin Loading Music"? When I click on download now, I get an error message. The others are all fine.

Thanks,

Sam
