Here is what we did last cruise to Alaska..
First port day - Day 4 - my inability to choose one favorite pushed us to put in 2 excursions this "long" day in port!!
1) Skagway - Fri, July 15, 2011 White Pass Scenic Railway 8AM-12:00PM
2) Skagway - Fri, July 15, 2011 Glacier Discovery by Helicopter 1:45- 4:15PM
Here is my review of this day -
1) The railway was beautiful and we enjoyed it very much - especially the scenery!! Now the the kids seemed bored but I feel like trains are a truly American Historic experience. so I am glad we did it ONCE..
Not being a morning person - I was tired... Maybe if it hadn't been so early and they weren't so sleepy? The pictures I took are some of the best from the trip and the dialogue along the way was colorful and informative.
Husband loved it and would like it again if it was just the 2 of us...
12 year old said she would do it again, 19 year old said no way she would....
2) Glacier Discovery by helicopter - this was way awesome!!! The only negative was they PUBLICLY weighed me and my husband - we both "passed" but then they tried to put our family in separate groups with WEIGHT!!! We had a minor hissy fit and our family of 4 was allowed to ride together... I loved it but a small damper was put on by the start.. The actual excursion was breathtaking! THe ride went way too fast as you just cannot drink in that much beauty - but the opportunity to see it all from this different view was irreplaceable and I would do it again...
Kids loved it and would like to do it again - maybe a different glacier??
