MUSH! Going to Alaska - August 19, 2013 7 Night from Vancouver

Hi!

I just discovered there was a thread for this cruise.

We were on the first Alaska Cruise last year (May 3rd) and decided to try later in the season for 2013.

So far our group consists of three cabins:
DH - Darrell and me - Lisa
My sister Jen and her daughter Lila (11 at time of sailing)
My Aunt Kathi and her friend Carol

A couple of others are still deciding

Hi V! Can't wait to cruise with you and Bubba again :thumbsup2

Just added ya'll to the Roll Call!

Welcome to the cruise. :wave2: Always glad to have some more people who have cruised Alaska before!

Seems like a long time away as it's still over 400+ days away. But I just got back from a cruise that I had started counting down at about the same mark, so the cruises DO arrive! :)

hi Lisa, it is so cool that we booked the same cruise without even talking about which we were going to do. :thumbsup2

So I think I have officially gone DCL CRAZY as I am now contemplating adding on the cruise after this one and doing a B2B! There is so much I want to do in Alaska and I was looking at the kid's schedule and they don't go back to school until Sept 9!! That's the latest they've ever gone back so I was thinking why not do a B2B. My same stateroom is available now for the 2nd cruise so I feel like I need to make a decision soon. I don't think I would want to pack up and switch rooms. Plus after spending 15 nights on the Hawaii cruise, 7 just seems so short! :lmao:

Technically I did that too! I've had it booked since this one. For me, I figured if I was going to spend all that on airfare and fly all the way across country might as well get my money's worth.

However....IF DCL does announce the WBTA (westbound transatlantic) there is a good chance I'll move this cruise and the B2B) If they don't, well you'll know someone on both cruises. I did a thread for the one after this one too! :thumbsup2

Well, I have to say "good-bye" as I decided for many reasons to change my sail date. Changed it to a concierge sailing on the Fantasy in 2013.

I'd still like to do Alaska someday, but probably with Princess or HAL.

If anyone wants to grab a deal - I just let cabin #7120 go - which is one of the Cat 5 cabins that was re-classified to a 7A. It has a slight obstruction on the veranda - but it's a plexiglass veranda for the price of a Cat 7!

Hope you all have a great time!

Sorry you're not going with us! I hope someone will be lucky and get that cabin! We've invited DH's cousin and wife to join us - I hope they do! They are a ton of fun and she's an awesome photographer and I am sure she'll share her pics with us!

Hi. We'll be on this cruise too.

There's myself, DH, and 2 kids. One will be 4, and the other will be just under 1. Also, my mother is coming, and hopefully my sister. I've booked for her, but she isn't ready to commit just yet. We've booked 2 cabins across the hall from each other - we wanted a balcony, but my mother was happy to have an inside cabin and just share our balcony, so that worked well.

DH, myself, and our daughter did a DCL Caribbean cruise last year, and decided that one day we wanted to do Alaska. My mother has always wanted to do an Alaska cruise as well, but her partner isn't interested, so we figured she might as well come with us. And, I was very jealous on our last cruise of all the people with grandparents there and their ability to have a small break. Don't get me wrong, I love our daughter, and the point was to have a family holiday, but it would have been nice to have one dinner without constantly chasing after her, or one of us taking her out to the lounges, etc. At least this year she can go to the kids club.

We're coming from Australia, so it will be part of a bigger trip including Disneyland and visiting friends in various parts of the US.

Hi all, I'm also booked on this cruise & i'm coming from the Gold Coast in Australia! Great to know there are other Aussies on board :)

There is Myself Beth 30, Husband Chris 30 and our son Daniel (2 at time of cruise) We are travelling with our friends Jan (pronounced yarn) male 30 and Kim 30 and their son Tyler (4 at time of cruise). also from the Gold Coast, Australia.

Like Michellekcm we are also travelling to Seattle & Disneyland as part of our trip. I'm so excited!!! It's great too meet you all. <3

Welcome to our group. We also cruised Alaska last year. (DH and myself) What time did you sail last year? We sailed in aug and had such an awesome time we are doing it again.

I don't think any planning on FE has begun yet. The person who started this thread has cancelled the cruise so not sure how we can go about posting to the beginning post about planning information.

Hi!
We are going to be looking to you for tips and advice!! I'm always happy to know that people want to go again - it must have been good!

We are interested in FE too - but since our OP has canceled her plans, no one has started the FE list yet.

It's hard to believe it's just over a year away!!!

Hello all! We just came home from a NYC-Canada cruise on the Magic. It was my first DCL cruise (and second overall). We (Me, my sister, BIL, niece 15, and nephew 13) booked ourselves on this Alaska trip for next summer. We are super excited. We ended up scoring two rooms across the hall from each other on Deck 6. One is a standard inside the other is a verandah. Seemed like the thing to do since we were in the midst of three adults and two teenagers cramming ourselves into a family stateroom w/verandah. It was so tight and having only one shower was tough. This Alaska cruise should be much better. Practically twice the square footage, two bathrooms, two showers.

Can't wait to start the heavy duty planning for this. We will probably hit Vancouver a day or two early and sightsee. As much as I would like to go to Seattle first and take the train to Vancouver I don't think it is going to be in the budget.

A recent post regarding the Pan Pacific being sold out now for June caused me to start looking for our cruise. I couldn't book the Pan Pacific (at least not online,) but I did end up booking the Pacific Rim Hotel. I want a hotel right there at the port so that i don't have to worry about getting the luggage to the ship. From what I have read DCL used the Pan Pacific when booking guests at hotels and the hotel has great reviews. The downside is the price....very expensive! From what I have read, Vancouver is expensive altogether. Thankfully, I have up to 24 hours before to cancel and they don't require a down payment. So I'll continue to monitor prices over the next year and then cancel if something better comes up!

We will be flying in on the Fri before the cruise so that we have a couple days to check out Vancouver!

My family and I will be joining you on this cruise. It will be my 4th disney cruise and I can't wait. So far it is my dd and I with the possibility of a few others joining us. I have 3 rooms booked for now, we'll see what happens when April comes around and they have to make up their minds.

I just booked the Pan Pacific hotel for Saturday and Sunday prior to the cruise. I wasn't able to do it online, but called and there was no problem. It was cheaper than the Pacific Rim hotel and alot more convenient.

Hi! How old is your dd? This will be our 4th Disney cruise too! And our longest! I'm excited to have more than a few days this time. We're getting close to one year! I think we'll be leaving home a year from today! (We are driving out from MN!)

I should go back and look - which hotel is right "at" the port? DH wants to stay at the one that is basically connected.

I'll have to call Pan Pacific and compare rates. The Pacific Rim is right across the street from the cruise terminal though so not too inconvenient.

My daughter is 25. I also have three sons ages 24, 24, and 26, but they are not sure if and Alaskan cruise is for them. They love spending their days around the adult pool, in bathing suits and the warm weather. We're still working on them.

I was told that if you take the elevator down to the "basement" of the Pan Pacific you are at the entrance to the cruise terminal. Sounds good to me!! we have a room overlooking the habor.

For those still considering which hotel to stay at in Vancouver, the Fairmont Waterfront is a great spot! Their front lobby is right across the street from the port. Before our Alaskan cruise last year, we were able to watch the Wonder pull in from our room, and in the morning it was so convenient to walk across to the port. Also, for you breakfast lovers they have an amazing breakfast/brunch buffet - their made to order omelettes are to die for!!!

You really can't go wrong with any of the hotels in the vicinity of the cruise terminal. They are all so close - I suggest using google maps to bring up the cruise terminal and use the street view feature and pan around to see how the hotels are laid out. If you are looking at the terminal from Canada Place Way, there will be glass dome like covers over some doors, and to the right there is a Canada Place Logo, and just to the right of that you can see a red & white sign for parking. That is the actual cruise terminal entrance. Pan across the street from that entrance and you will see the Fairmont Waterfront! All of the really close hotels are all very nice, and yes, they are all expensive...but worth every penny!

Hope this helps!

Aby
