Can a leg/calf muscle cramp damage/hurt the leg/muscle?

It happened Fri at 6am and is still killing me.

Denise;

That's a long time for a cramp to last. Have Frank take a close look
at it, as a blood clot can present similar symptoms. Not knowing any of the particulars, it might be other things ie; torn ligament ect if you were
doing something strenuous. Usually "Charlie Horses" as we call 'em round here, are because of dehydration or low electrolyte levels. I've
had 'em bad enough that the muscle would be tender for sometime afterwords. Having said that, if it's been pretty painful for this whole time I'd be kinda concerned.....but then again I'm three days older'n DIRT so any little twinge for me is liable to be terminal.:lmao:

potasium does help muscles. bananas, potatoes, etc. we always eat bananas when we go on a big trip and are sitting in the mh a long time. it might help you heal.. hope you're better soon.

:confused: Can't say I have an answer..but sure hope you get to feeling better soon. Let us know how you're doing Denise. :hug:

Muscle cramps can be caused by certain medications. In particular, statins & certain blood pressure medications. Have you started new meds lately? If the cramps don't go away, call your doctor.

Is it swollen or hurt to touch? My husband "pulled" his calf muscle last August by walking up stairs. He actually had compartment syndrome of the calf and had emergency surg the next day when he finally went to the doctor. His symptoms were pain, swelling.

If you have any chest pain or shortness of breath with the pain in you calf, Go to the ER.

This could be a number of things. Three days is a long time for pain from a muscle cramp. It could be a tear, strain or a blood clot. Try alternating ice and heat to see if that helps. Several factor to consider. Pain while walking/resting, bruising, swelling, sudden onset, can you put weight on the leg.

It feels a bit better. When i'm up and around it's not too bad, after resting is when it hurts. I was in bed so I shouldn't have pulled anything. Frank says all looks well. :thumbsup2 I don't take any medicine, just vitamins, pretty good for an ol gal. :laughing: I feel fine otherwise, I can walk on it. I hope it's just residual pain from the charlie horse. Cheryl you're right about the fluids, my body has never been good about telling me to drink but it sure tells me to eat.:confused3

Thanks for the info, this is a smart group of people.:flower3:

i asked one of jeffs relatives (she's a nurse) and this is what she said:

Pain is the body's way of telling you that there is damage of some sort. It is especially important to listen to when it is prolonged for a period of time. The good news is that our bodies are resilient and can repair themselves. If you are asking about permanent damage, that will depend on what is causing the pain. My best advice is that you should see a doctor if in pain for any prolonged time.

HOPE, you are better soon. We don't like to see our friends hurtin' ya know. :)
