Just read Jim Hills article on Laughingplace.com. Found the merger information very interesting
its disappointing to think about what could have been. I love the muppets 3d show and would love to see some new stuff featuring the muppets at WDW

Wouldn't it be great if MGM (grew a little) and added a Muppet section to the park? They could have Oscar's Trash Can Slam (little kiddies riding small trucks in a bumper cars theme)! Or Kermit's it isn't easy being green ride (similar to SW or PP). Or have big bird stand tall with arms swinging like Dumbo ride! GrouchoLand, etc. It would be nice!

Most of Hill's articles leave the reader with that feeling. But who's to say that Hill's take is what really "might have been"? Hill apparently has a source that allows him to see the planning stages of various projects. Planning concepts and what finally gets built (for whatever reasons) are very different things. Sure, lots of ideas sound wonderful but are just not practical or affordable. Just keep in mind that Jim Hill has an axe to grind...
I take Hill's negative comments with the same grain of salt that I take Pressler's positive comments. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.

I don’t think that Mr. Hill has any ax to grind at all. His reporting has, to my knowledge, always been accurate. He has his share of opinions (I never found the concepts for ‘The Muppet Movie Ride’ to be all that humorous although the rest of The Muppets Studios were interesting), but he always makes it clear when he’s stating his analysis. Plans change, that’s not either a bad thing or a good thing. But most of the time it’s interesting.

Two elements to add to Mr. Hill’s article. A real production center was planned for the Muppet area in Florida. Both for television production and a branch of The Creature Shop. These were back in the days when the Disney/MGM Studios tried to be a real, working studio.

Second, Mr. Hill made reference to Mickey going on vacation in his last installment but didn’t pick up that thread. At the time of the Henson Co. buyout, Disneyland was basing it’s marketing campaign around park-wide events: a circus, a state fair, a retro ‘50s thing. The concept for the Muppets was that Mickey and the main characters took a vacation from Disneyland. In their place the Muppets take over. All references to the Mice and the Ducks were to have been replaced with Frogs, Pigs, and er, fuzzy things. All the stage shows would have been changed and some of the rides would have been re-themed. The ‘Muppet Invasion’ plan ended when the buyout ended. And for a time Pressler was going to replace ‘Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln’ with ‘Muppets 3-D’.
