Day 6
I must warn you, this day of sugar will end on a sour note. Dh he got sick while watching Illuminations and blamed it on the day of eating junk. Youll see why
Our morning consisted of a tiny nibble in the room before heading to Epcot. We had a late breakfast scheduled in Norway to see the Princesses so I wanted to make sure we were all hungry for it. We saw Belle in the lobby wearing her gold gown. In the dining room we had Mulan, Snow White, Aurora, and Mary Poppins. This was the first encounter wed ever had with Mulan so I think she was Dd8s favorite. Dd4 was shy with everyone, refusing pictures or hugs, until Aurora showed up. Suddenly, she jumped out of her chair and hugged Sleeping Beauty like she didnt have a shy bone in her body. I think well have to conclude that Aurora was Dd4s favorite.
On to the foodour drinks arrived quickly and the foods were brought out promptly. The caramel rolls and fruit started us off. The fruit was fresh and yummy. The rolls were very good. Dd8 who doesnt eat much ate more at this meal than Id seen her eat in a very long time. The caramel rolls were just the start for her. The platter arrived soon and was pretty good, for the most part. The hashbrown casserole was divine! The eggs, bacon, and sausage were all your typical eggs, bacon and sausage. The biscuits were stale, though. I picked the middle out of mine because it was the only soft part on it. We asked for more biscuits which we got quickly, and happily, these seconds were much fresher. The butter served with them was yummy, too. I think it had a sweetness to it, possibly honey butter? Anyway, we also had refills of the caramel rolls and hashbrowns. We left there completely stuffed.
This was to be our last Epcot day so even though we were stuffed from a late breakfast I managed to fill the rest of our day and evening with as many of the treats Id read about on these boards as I could.
Dh had a fiesta margarita in Mexico.
We shared a baklava in Morocco.
I asked at the Rose and Crown podium if they could do a take-out of Stickey Toffee Pudding for me. Because it was mid afternoon and they werent busy they said they would allow it (theyd told me No a couple nights earlier during a busy dinnertime when Id asked). They said I had to enter the restaurant and sit at a table but they would prepare it to go for me. That was perfectly fine. I was seated on the patio and had the pudding within minutes which I took over to the rose garden area of England and shared with Dh. Neither of us knew what it would be beforehand, and we still dont really know now. I think it was a cake probably made with figs or prunes or dates, some kind of dark, sticky fruit. A vanilla, custard-like sauce surrounded it. It was really good but not heavenly. Im glad I tried it, though. Dh also had a beer from the UK.
A trip to WDW wouldnt be the same without a boat ride over to Beaches and Cream for a No Way Jose. It was as fabulous as always and earned Dhs best dessert of the trip award. The girls also shared a hot dog and fries here. Mom felt they needed some kind of protein in their tummies to counter all the junk we were eating!
The hot sun was getting to us so a Kaki Gori in Japan was in order. Wed never had one before and assumed it was just your run-of-the-mill snowcone. It was much more flavorful than your ordinary one. The flavoring syrup was very fruity and sweet and tasted great! I think they had strawberry but it might have been cherry. Either way they had red lips afterwards!
I had to see what a German Chocolate cookie in Germanys candy store was all about. This sucker was huge! It was a chocolate chip cookie about and inch and a half think, with a slathering of caramel on it, then topped with a layer of coconut. It was very good but I could only handle it in small bits. Id have a bite or two and then put it away. Later Id nibble a bit more. It was really sweet and eating it slowly made it last most of the evening.
While waiting for Illuminations, Dh got two orders of fish and chips for all of us to split again. It was the same as before, always good. Dh put vinegar on his fish. Ive always been repulsed by his liking of this, but tonight I let him go for it. Within a matter of 20 minutes or so he would start feeling ill. At the time he said it was probably a matter of eating so much junk all day long and then topping it off with vinegar that did him in. Now he says it was probably a virus. Who knows? The day of sweets sure couldnt have helped. And it wasnt over yet. Not for me anyway.
While Dh and the girls were fish eating, I hit the French bakery for late night treats to have in the hotel. Id loved the Sacristain from previous trips so I had to have that again. I thought Id remember a very slight custard in the middle of the dough but this one didnt have any. It was basically croissant like dough, twisted up, with chocolate chips in it. I preferred it the way I remembered it. The custard added a lot to it.
Dd8 is a huge cheesecake fan, like her Momma, so I got her a slice and got the Praligne for Dh. I didnt know what it was but it looked chocolatey so I thought hed like it. As it turns out he never ate it because he was sick. I had a few nibbles and didnt really like it, but Im not a big chocolate fan. I think it had a hazelnut flavor to it. The cheesecake was fabulous, though. It always is.
Thankfully, that completes Day 6. Our stomachs need the rest!
Days 7 and 8 soon to come.
