Mummy Question

Now that we have the motion sickness question answered in regards to Mummy, I have another.....

What about "drops"? I basically am a coaster chicken (LOVE SIMULATOR RIDES THOUGH!!!!) but the rest of my family LOVES any and all coasters and usually drags poor mom along. I usually just close my eyes and hold onto hubby, but end up getting sick (or WISHING I could just get sick and get it over with!) afterwards. My family is INSISTING I have to ride Mummy on our trip in June, so I'm just wondering if I should be prepared to barf or not. I was fine riding Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain Railroad....things like that, so if the drops are no worse than that I should be ok.

Any opinions from the "lucky" people who have already riden??

Thanks All!!!

I'm like you: I prefer the simulator rides and do not like rollercoasters. I absolutely loved the Mummy! If you can ride Space Mountain, you will also be able to ride the Mummy. Keep your eyes open during the ride so you don't miss any of the theming.

I'm with your family...I just INSIST that you must ride::yes:: Well, for whatever my opinion is worth, that is;) Seriously, if you're fine with Space Mtn. and BTMR, you should be just fine on the Mummy. The "drops" are in the same range as those two and I find the Mummy to be a bit smoother that SM or BTMR. ROTM is really an outstanding ride and shouldn't be missed.

Have fun!

I have been wondering with butterflys in my stomach that same thing for days. I will ride space and big thunder mtn and even rocknrollercoaster no problem but anything like jurassic park or splash mtn, no can do. I suppose I will have to ride the mummy since we will be there, (DD will kill me if I don't) but I will be scared to death getting on the thing. Linda

Are they doing previews or soft openings again before the grand opening?

Linda,

Relax. The drops on the Mummy are nowhere near as deep as on Splash Mtn. or Jurassic Park. They're not even straight down drops; they're more at a sideways angle. None of the drops give you that "Oh no, my stomach's in my throat!" feeling. You do get some air time in three spots where you kind of pop up out of your seat, which is great. It's just very cool because it's all in the dark and the effects are (IMHO) much better than those on Rockin' RollerCoaster. If you've enjoyed Space, BTMR and RNR; I'm certain you'll think the Mummy is excellent.

Now, how do you feel about bugs???:teeth:

I'm not bothered by bugs at all. it's those drops that are worrying me! Linda 1 more day!
p.s. anyone going to star wars weekends at epcot?

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN ABOUT THE BUGS!

Here's a thread from a few weeks' back that gives a lot of info about the new Mummy attraction, including lots of responses about the scarab beetles which appear during the ride. A big SPOILER ALERT on this thread though. If you don't want to know lots of different things about the ride, don't read the thread.

My opinion is that the part of the ride that includes the beetles isn't scary. While it was in technical rehearsal mode, nothing touched you (as in It's Tough to Be a Bug at DAK). Whether that will change in the attraction's final form, I don't know. Personally, I think that would be great :)

I'm guessing it's a typo on your part, but just in case it isn't Star Wars weekends are at Disney-MGM, not EPCOT.

I was there last year while it was going on. I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, so I didn't line up to get reservation tickets for the autograph sessions but it was fun to be there at the opening. Stormtroopers were pacing back and forth on top of the roof support on the turnstiles.

I'm sure you'll have a "blast" if that's your thing.

And, no, don't worry about Mummy. The coaster elements are very, very tame. It's just a great complete ride with two quick coaster bursts that consists mostly of banked turns and small dips.

Yes, I meant STAR WARS weekends the Disney Studios. I guess I was thinking about the Flower and Garden show & concerts at EPCOT at the same time and didn't notice what I typed.
I'm not a HUGE star wars fan but have seen the movies and enjoy the events and parades and seeing people dressed like the characters. it's something to see and do other than the same old every day stuff.

Is the launched section of the Mummy comparable to the Hulk's launch? I'm not a fan of being launched, am really excited about riding the Mummy, just would like to know what to expect. Is there only 1 "launch" or 2?

Thanks

3, actually.

But there's only one Main Launch. The other two are more like quick speed boosts.

The launch section of the Mummy is milder than the one for Hulk. It does launch you uphill, but it doesn't have quite the velocity of the Hulk's launch, nor do you achieve the height of the Hulk. And of course as the Mummy does not have loops or corkscrews, you don't immediately end up upside down in an inversion as you do on The Hulk:scared:

I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. If you've made it through the Hulk, the Mummy's launch will seem tame in comparison. It's the visuals that are really cool here.
