Multiple UY Question

For those of you with multiple UYs, have you run into any problems making ressies and using your points? The way it was explained to me is that they are truly 2 separate contracts under separate member numbers and ressies are made separately. Therefore, when you make a ressie, they can't link the two like they can with two contracts under the same member number. I'm not sure if this is true or even if I fully understand it.

We currently have 2 contracts totaling 390 points with an August UY. When I purchased the contract, I thought our points would expire the last day in August, but it's the last day in July. This is a little inconvenient for us since we usually vacation late July, early August. We were fortunately in that both contracts had banked points, so we're always in the situation where we're using points by the end of July or they expire. I'm thinking of adding on a small 50 pt contract that has a Sept or Oct UY to allow us wiggle room with the July/Aug travel.

I'd appreciate any pros/cons/experiences that those of you with multiple UYs have experienced. Yes, I understand there are pros/cons, but how realistically do those rules impact people? :confused3 Like I would consider another UY if I had it to do over again, would you buy separate UYs again?

Warmest regards,
Bridgett

You can't use points from both contracts for a single night. If you need a few points from the second contract, you have to use your once a year transfer to transfer the points from one to the other. We have had to do this several times with our one 50 point odd UY contract.

Once my husband gets back from his WDW Marathon trip using these points, we're selling this contract.

I just bought two separate contracts with different UY's this year. I had 50 Vero Beach '06 pts. that had to be used by May '08. So, I added a Friday night to myApril '08 BWV ressie. They would have linked the added night to my original ressie, but my original ressie involves a 1 brm. boardwalk view. I only had enough pts. for a 1 bdrm. standard. So we will have to move for one night. I also had to borrow 1 pt. from my VB '08 pts., but I can transfer it back from my '08 BWV pts.(All '07 pts. for both contracts were banked.) This gives you a good example how you can use 2 different contracts. And yes, they will link the ressies if the accomodations are the same.

Thanks for the responses and congrats on your two contract purchases, BWV Dreamin!!! We went to BW in July and just had a wonderful time. In fact, I was just on Dis's website wondering where to go/stay for spring break or July vacation. Made me really want to go to Orlando!!!

To help explain, there are 'master contracts' and there are 'add-on' contracts.

Each master contract has it's own membership number. Add-on contracts can be thought of as 'additions' to a master contract.

Add-on contracts must be the same use year month, but they can be different resorts.

The difference is how points can be used to make reservations.

'Joe' has a 200 point OKW 'master contract' with a 100 point SSR 'add-on' contract. This is treated as a 300 point contract at the 7 month window, and Joe can use those 300 points any way desired to make reservations.

'Bob' has a 200 point OKW 'master contract' and a 100 point SSR 'master contract'. Those two contracts each have their own membership number, and are just as distinct from each other as your contract is distinct from my contract. Bob can make reservations from his 200 point contract, and he can make reservations from his 100 point contract. He cannot directly combine the points, for example, and make a 300 point reservation with them.

Hope this helps.

When you have multiple use years, it's usually best for each contract to be in a banked-borrowed situation. For example, my February contract has all its pts, and in February we will make ressies with those 270 pts, and borrow as needed from 2008. The August contract is currently borrowed upon, so it sits until it has pts again. Then I have 51 pts in March, and when it has its pts again, I'm selling it because 51 pts just isn't enough for us to do anything with it--those small contracts are a pain,IMHO.:wizard:
