I'm in the process of buying into the DVC. We haven't started the paperwork yet, but sometime today I'll be talking to our guide and he should send things out.

We're thinking of getting 300 points and splitting it with 150 in the Wilderness lodge and 150 in Hilton Head. I haven't asked our guide yet about this...wanted to see if anyone here had any suggestions first.

I'm also hoping the 15 day delay for processing won't keep us from getting in with the lower rate and a use year starting in Dec since we'll have started the paperwork before the increases.

Thanks for the advice,

Jim

You'll hear (numerous times) on this board to "Buy where you want to stay", which is good advice, so hopefully you've considered that.

We own 2 "homes" as well, with different use years, and this does provide a lot of flexibility with your point management.

We have the same thing going on. Only we have 3 home resorts but thankfully the same use year. It makes it easier to plan I think. It helps to have that 11 month window at more than one place. Especially if you want to stay there.

JimO,

Welcome to the DIS boards. Lot of very well informed DVC members here. I'm pretty new to it myself.

From what I've heard, if you make the contact and tell them to go ahead with the paperwork before the increase, you will be locked in at the $72 per point. This even works with the banking windows. I just found out as I did and add-on at VWL and my 50% banking window closed at the end of April. However, since I started the process in April, although I won't close until next week, I can still use the 50% banking options on these new points.

So now I've got two homes as well. My original purchase was a resale at OKW and now an add-on at VWL. I wanted to have the 11 month booking window availability at both.

Isn't it true thought that you can only use your home resort points for the 11 month booking window...say for example I had 150 points at VWL and 150 points at BWV. I play on staying 8 nites at VWL in June in a 1 bedroom and that costs 300 points. I can book part of my vacation at the 11 month window utilizing the first 150 points, but would have to wait until the 7 month window to finsish booking the ressie with the BWV 150 points, correct?

Yes DVCKaren that is corect. The nice thing is if you do plan to alternate "homes" and need 300 points you can always book at the 11 month window by banking/borrowing the points for the first stay (BWV) and then do the same for the next years stay at VWL - repeat as needed for the next 41 years.

Ahhh...that makes sense Ron, I didn't think of it that way. Hmmmmmmmmmm......just bought our first buy in and already thinking of adding on......
