DH and I will be in the world in Sept for free dining:cool1: celebrating our 10th anniversary. We are going to take a more laid back approach to this trip and only have limited plans at this point. We made a few ADR's so far (lunch at San Angel Inn, lunch at 50's Prime Time, dinner at Biergarten), but are unsure of where we will end up each night. Is it okay to make a few (no more than 2) ADR's for an evening and just see what happens? None of them would be signature like CRT or HDDR, just regular TS. We don't want to keep someone else from getting to experience a restuarant but we don't want to miss out either by not having ADR's!!

How have others handled this? Is this bad Dis'er behavior or is it okay? Any suggestions or advice would be welcome!!!

I know disney does not want you to do this. I personally would feel bad doing it as it might take a reservation from someone who needs it. Just plan out your trip. We go for 8 days and I plan what part I go to each day MONTHS ahead of time. Make an itinerary and stick to it. Then you can make your dining reservations accordingly. Good luck to you!

In my experience, if you try to make conflicting ADRs, that is 2 within a time frame that you could not do both, the CM will ask you, or tell you, they are canceling the one already on record in conflict with the one you are trying to make. Does that make sense?:confused3 It's more than a matter of Disney doesn't want you to, I understand it to be a policy, that you can not have 2 ADRs for similar times on the same day.

I would agree. It is so hard to make reservations sometimes as it is. If everyone was making "back up" reservations it would tie things up even more. I wasn't thrilled about having to make dinner plans six months ahead of time...but that's just the way it is now. :confused3

When we were there over spring break most places weren't even taking walk ups for dinner. I felt really bad for the people that had no idea about the DDP or making ADR's....they were really stuck !! If it wasn't for the internet, I would have had no idea myself. Thank goodness for the Dis boards :goodvibes

Personally I think that making 2 ADR's for the same night is wrong. I have read that Disney is cracking down on people making duplicate ressies though.

It is very hard for many people to get any ADRs at some restaurants right now, so those making several ARDs for dinner on one particular day seems unfair.

Sorry, just being honest!:confused3

I was having a hard time getting the ressies I wanted. I had to change my plans over and over to get it close to what i wanted. I would be pretty upset to find out that I couldn't eat at Le Cellier because someone had a back up reservation. I think it is a little unfair especially during free dining. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if everyone wasn't trying to figure out ADR at the same time. Early December would be the perfect time for your plan, since there are a lot less people in the parks, and on the dining plan.

I will say it's a smart idea though.

Thanks for the input everyone. We were not going to make more than 2 for one evening, and one would have been early (say 5) and one later (say 7-8) and there are only 2 of us. As I said, we were trying to be less "commando style" this trip and go with the flow. We may just stick with what we have and if necessary try to walk up somewhere.

I know that people think it is unfair to do this, but I was not looking to book the really popular stuff. I tried to get LeCellier, but it is not available for ANY time we are there. AT ALL. So we miss that this time. I don't want character meals, as it is just DH and I. We want to try restuarants we have never been to before and we have done most of the character stuff already.

This was the one thing I disliked about the DDP-being a slave to the food. Because you had to make ADR's so far out, and you knew you could not walk up somewhere and be seated, then you were "stuck" with whatever you chose 6 months prior. I guess I am just trying to hedge my bets with two choices.

I have had 2 meals booked at the same time while we were still in deciding mode. The CM noticed it and told me I had to cancel one. She then went through all of my ADR's checking for double bookings. Even though I did it, I agree it's wrong because ADR's are so hard to get it you don't snatch them up 180 days out.

It doesn't work out in early December. Thats when we went last year. There were 6 plus an infant and I had a devil of a time getting meals where and when we wanted. And I called at EXACTLY 180 days. I know that they hold back tables, because I called to get CRT breakfast at 180 days from our arrival and was told there was nothing. Waited until 180 days before I wanted to eat there, called at 7am and got lucky. So that makes me wonder if they do that for all the more popular venues????:confused3

Isn't Disney about magic and happiness? Making an extra reservation is taking someone elses happiness away-You should make a decision and cancel one so you only have one per night. Do what is right, just plan your itinerary and stick to it, that's what the rest of us do. I am very surprised to hear that Disney even allows this to happen.

The DDP gives those who have it an advantage of the 180 day ADR. I've seen so many people be turned away from restaurants without an ADR, and I was greatful that I pre-planned our evening meals so far in advance.

Don't think of it as being a slave to food, rather treat yourself to a pat on the back for being so well prepared for a special evening with your DH without the stress of "will we get in, and how long do we have to wait?" :)

I have not booked anything other than what I originally started with-one TS each day, but DH asked me should we try to make some others and see what happens. I was asking if anyone else had done so or if this was not allowed.

As far as taking away someone elses happiness-because I have an ADR and they can't get in? I can't get into LeCellier because it is booked SOLID for the entire time we are there. Am I complaining that someone has taken away my happiness? No thats called life.

I am sorry that I even asked this question at this point. I will stick with my original plan and try to walk up and be seated if we so decide.

Disney isn't allowing this anymore. Someone posted last week about being double-booked and the CM making them cancel the duplicates.

This happened last year to me too so I know it's true. I called to make a change and found out between me, my TA, and Poly concierge staff, that a couple of things hadn't been cancelled and I had 2 things booked for one evening. The CM pointed that out and indicated one of them needed to be cancelled. It wasn't a problem for me since I didn't want one of them anyway. But, it does mean Disney is watching this.

Why ask if you cannot handle the answers? We're only giving you our opinions that you asked for. Sorry they aren't what you wanted to hear.

Have you thought that the reason it is booked solid might be because others have done what you are considering doing ie. making more than one ADR for an evening. How would you feel if you found out that there could have been several slots opened up to eat at Le Cellier if those who had 'double booked' had just made a decision one way or the other :confused3

I believe that the OP was fed up with being attacked for asking the question. They have explained that they did not double book ADRs and that she was merely inquiring about whether or not it was ok. Some other posters have come along calling it rude, asking the OP if its ok to take away magic and happiness etc... when the OP has done nothing of the sort. Double booking ADRs is becoming like many other heated topics here on the DISboards (refillable mug reuse and pool hopping as examples) Where if anyone even asks a question about it the thread gets so out of hand with other posters attacking that the moderators are forced to close it down. When I checked last the DISboards was to give advice to fellow Disney lovers, not to attack them when they merely ask a question.

Very well put. :thumbsup2

I don't think the OP was aware of this being a no no, that's why she asked.

I guess we disagree then on what is an 'attack' and what is voicing an opinion of the question asked.

Lately Disney has been cracking down, they may cancel your duplicate ADR but in general its pretty selfish behaviour and please don't do it during free dining period when it's really hard to get adr's . We also tour very, very leisurely since we go to the world yearly. I make ADR's for the places I absolutely love to eat and then every thing else I wing it.

Since you seem to be pretty flexible, when you decide where you're going to end up go to the park concierge and make an ADR for an "off" time, say a late dinner (7:30) My Dh and I find these times usually are open.
