Flat Stanley is a fun series of books about a kid who gets flattened and has adventures. Here in CT it has become a great teaching tool .
My kids used Flat Stanley in school 1&2 grade. They read the books and then made a Flat Stanley. They then send Flat Stanley on a vacation to someone they know in another state. They ask the people that they send Stanley to to take him to ball games, parks, movies, etc and have thier photo taken with Stanley. The kids get to learn about other states and things people do in those states. We loved it. Our Flat Stanley was sent to FL and YES went to DISNEY, (his hight and size did have some drawbacks... too thin for the roller coasters.)
It is such a fun way to learn and the whole object is to photo everything.
This might be another one the kids enjoy and then you could ask them about each photo and find out what went on for the 5 weeks. Might be a great help when they get home to help with relearning the rules.... "You need to do xyz so you could tell me about this photo tonight."
You could have lots of fun with this even after they are home.
