Muhlenberg college. Anyone?

Never heard anything bad about the place, but to be honest, I really dislike Easton. Although the college isn't in the downtown area, so it's got that going for it.

Muhlenberg isn't in Easton. Maybe you were thinking of Lafayette?

Yes, ED is binding (Early Decision), EA (Early Action is not), although Muhlenberg only offers ED or RD (Regular Decision).
ED is binding unless you cannot meet your financial obligations to the school if chosen. If your child needs to see what school will offer the most merit, then ED should not be chosen. ED is a contract that my dd, myself and her college advisor had to sign and submit through the CB (CollegeBoard).
A child should ONLY submit ED if that is the exact school where they want to attend.

There are many factors to answering your question about is it better to submit ED. For Muhlenberg, they take approximately 60% of their freshman class ED so the pool is much more competitive for those RD. They have a very high retention rate so perhaps this is the reason why they take most from ED. ED at Muhlenberg also gets you into a better dorm but that should not be a reason to submit ED LOL. My dd had 3 visits/interviews/chats, etc., and her Admissions person came to her school twice so she was basically aware that they were very interested in her. They also did an early read on her and informed us if everything stayed the same (grades, attendance, etc.) they told her what they could offer her. For my dd, it worked out very nicely but you need to be very sure your child can attend the school without worrying about financials if you put ED (unless you plan on high student loans for undergrad, which I would not suggest but that is a personal decision).

If you are new to the process, I am guessing your dd is a junior since seniors, for the most part are done submitting, although the deadline is December 31 (I think). My dd's HS is a small private college prep school that had them work on essasys since Junior Year and have their applications ready to be submitted along with supplements by October 1 so she was ready to submit.

One piece of advice I can give you is GO NOW to all open houses during Junior year. Do NOT wait until Senior Year. It is stressful enough for them as seniors and there will be schools on top her her list that she will want/need to revisit so that takes up a weekend. Make sure when you go to visit, you schedule interviews so that your dd can start to form a relationship with admissions.

Get on the site: collegeboard.com. You can find out much information there and that will be where your dd's SATI and SATII are stored and sent from to the schools. You can also go on collegeconfidential.com. It's a little hard core for the average person learning about college, process but it is like the dis where you can ask questions, learn and there is even a parents section.

Thanks for the advice, and yes she is a Junior. We are starting to visit campus's this winter/spring. She really likes what she sees online for Berg so I am dying to get there to see it in person. Good Luck and let me know how it goes...

The school is very good from what I hear. I knew a few people who went there - they were all boarding/prep school kids who didn't get into the Ivy League they wanted. That does make me wonder if it's any better than a state school…that my boarding/prep school friends would never apply to.

I've only heard a few things about Muhlenberg, all good. I know a few folks on the theatre faculty at Geneseo, LOVE them. If you are looking at SUNY schools, check out Fredonia. It's smaller than Geneseo (more stage/design time) and they are in the process of renovating the entire Arts Center. DH and I both have our BFAs in theatre from SUNY Fredonia, my favorite teacher is now the department chair and the Geneseo folks I know are also Fredonia alums.

It's worth a phone call, no?
