I dont know if anyone else has reported this yet but just got back from port orleans today and was told that the mugs were good at all disney resorts but not parks. I knew from reading on here for the past 4 years that wasnt right so i went to not one but 4 different resort to just ask the cashiers if i bought a mug where it was good at and they All said that they were good at All resort not just the one you are staying at.I didnt even ask the first cashier she was the one who told me and I didnt know what to believe. We were going to the other resorts to eat anyway so I thought I would ask. I didnt have my mug at the time. Just reporting what i was told. Maybe it is going to be the new policy?I thought people would be interested to know this.

When they went to the generic mug design during the YOAMD they were allowing the mugs to be used at all resorts. When they switched to the next mug design...the red ones...they went back to saying they were only to be filled at the resort where purchased....but really there is not much that they can do about it since the mugs are no longer resort specific.

Truly, I don't think that they really care about the whole 'mug thing' anyway.

Hi dancin I dont think they care either but what i found strange was that i wasnt even thinking about using my mug anywhere else but was told by the cashier that it was good at all resorts without my asking.l first timers would even question it like I did. I have been 4 times with a new mug each time. they make great mugs at home.

Isn't it terrible that the majority of the CMs don't know their own policies??

Obviously this isn't true, as they are testing a new mug with a chip at ASSp to keep people from abusing the system. LOL

You can find the "new mug chip" threads throughout the boards. There are a few of them...quite lengthy as well.

:)

hi Nadjalu Yes I know that it is a shame that the cm dont know the policies but i found it very strange that every one of the cms that i asked said the same thing after the first one told me this. they have never even brought it up before. I just thought it was weird is all. I can understand one cm and maybe 2 but 4 different resorts said the same thing. I wish they would all get on the same page because I can see why some newbies are confused.

That's what I was told when I bought some at Old Key West back in May! I thought it was strange as well!

Even with the new chips it is possible that the mugs will be good at all the resorts. If all of them are programmed the same, which is likely rather than set up something different for each resort, then as long as the chip is active you could us it anywhere. Maybe they are saying that in preparation for the new system.

Could it be that maybe their policy has changed or is in process of changing with the new mug system?

Sorry, but if every CM I encounter tells me the exact same thing while I'm on a vacation, I'm going to be inclined to believe and follow what every WDW employee tells me as opposed to following what is written on a message board.

hi poohbear227
THis is exactly why I posted my observations about this . Maybe they are changing the policy or something . I heard that next year the mug is included with all dining plans so maybe this is a way to get people to get the dining plan also? I just dont know. I do know that i have to go find the threads about the new chip. I leave for a week and I miss so much .LOL

The machines have a sign above them stating they are to be used at that resort for your trip duration - numerous people have posted photos of the sign before. So unless they took the signs down, those CMs are wrong.

Pair that idea with the new mug chip thing and perhaps the mugs will ONLY be for those on a dining plan :confused3

Interesting thought???

I don't know about most of you, but we don't carry our mugs around so they won't lose any thing on us.

The thing is that the mugs say one thing on the side (with addtl signage at purchase point) while the CMs say another thing.
The thing I love about staying at the Dolphin??? I get to bring my mug back, year after year, and reuse it. And I've been told, every single time, to remember to bring it back the next time. There is no contradictory signage...they mean for you to reuse their mugs. It's a wonderful thing. I do wish Disney would get on board with that. I have no use for even more mugs...at this point I have about 24 or 25 of the darned things...how many refillable mugs can a family of 3 use????

I wish Disney would allow us to return to WDW with our old mugs and then program that mug, somehow (chip or barcode) on each return for use then...I wouldn't even mind paying for it....$5 a trip would be terrific. Are you out there listening Disney??? But no...they want people to continue buying the darned things. So now...I buy my own soda and drink that..no more buying from Disney.

So does this mean we will be able to use our ASMusic mugs for our ADR at Whispering Canyon then?:)

hi goofy4tink
that would be great if they let us do that with the chip in the mugs who know maybe it wll in the works if they figure out how to do it. I know what yo mean with the sinage and cms saying different things but in hindsight they could use the same signage by saying what they told me. it was like it was scipted they ALL said "The mugs are good for refills at All disney HOTELS but not at the Parks" yes they called them hotels . maybe because say that it the WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT IN FLORIDA. maybe that will be the differance on the sign for the resort part of the sign.yo cant bring a mug from disney land or paris or the other disney resorts outiside of the one where it was purchased? I dont know it could be a way of keeping the same sign and it still be correct

Here is the current mug policy per Disney's HUB (castmember website)

Resort Refillable Mugs are sold in all Walt Disney World® Resort hotels, and can be used at the restaurant where it was purchased for the entire duration of the current visit. Each location offers soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate, hot and iced tea.

was told that the mugs were good at all disney resorts but not parks.
You could ask three different cast members a yes-or-no question, and get three different answers.

But that isn't accurate since places like the Boardwalk and Y&B Club have several places the mugs can be refilled.

Yes, No, and "Only on Days you can sweat enough to fill your mug"?

If you are not on a dining plan you will still be able to purchase a mug. so no, they will not be going to dining plan only.

And until they start chipping the mugs, all the mugs at all the resorts are exactly the same. So if you are at the Contemporary with a mug, there is no way for anyone to know that you bought that mug at the All Star Sports, and they are not going to ask you. This may be one of the things that chipping the mugs is meant to fix.
