Ok.... I just have to vent. If you're an offender, rethink your wardrobe... if you're as disgusted as I am... read on.

When did it become OK to allow our (the collective our, not me or you in particular) ever expanding and flabby waistlines to flop over our jeans? When did it become OK to show that flab to the world at large? When did it become OK to SHOWCASE the floppy flab with tight, bright and unsupportive tops that accentuate the width of our rear ends, too??

Hello!!!

Can you tell I spent the weekend at the malls? ;)

Now back to your regularly scheduled threads...

I always wonder if they really think they look good with the muffins and as you say, "bright and unsupportive tops that accentuate the width of our rear ends". I'm with you! I've told friends that if I ever attempt to leave the house looking like that they have permission to slap me! :rotfl2:

I'm confused by this whole muffin top phenomenon. We live in a society that is so weight conscious, even while more and more people are overweight.

I can remember in the 80s when belly shirts were in (remember cutting off your sweat shirts and tee shirts, or am I aging myelf?). I don't recall ever seeing women doing that if they didn't have a flat tummy. Maybe it was different in other regions, but where I lived, heavier girls just didn't wear belly shirts.

I can't say that it disgusts me to see it, but it definitely surprises and maybe baffles me a little.

I do blame some of it on the fashion industry
Why is every top "sculpted"?
I miss the high necked loose fitting blouses of the 80s. ;)
Not really -but those kinds of things did look better on a wide variety of figures.
I think you have to work harder to find the looser fitting tops and higher Jeans that aren't "mom jeans"

I'm not very overweight, but I'm no size 2 either and let me tell you, I work very hard to make sure no nothing is hanging out that doesn't need to be. I will spend days trying to find a couple of shirts because I am so worried about "muffin-gate." My DH knows how self conscious I am about this and is thankfully very honest with me about whether or not I look acceptable(he knows fully what I consider acceptable) or whether I should keep looking. There are a few tops that may fit almost perfect except for a little pooch and if I can definitely layer it with something that will detract from that, I will consider them...layer MUST not come off at all.

Well if a guy can have a beer belly then it shoud also be acceptable for women to have muffin tops. I don't care about either one as long as i don't see the actual flab hanging over.

The problem is that all too often you can see the actual flab on display. Usually with low rise jeans - way too low rise on many people...

ITA!!!!

I HATE HATE HATE low rise pants and wish they would go out of style forever! They do not look good on ANYONE, do you hear me skinny folk?? They don't even look good on you, much less on bigger gals!

They give EVERYONE a muffin top even if you are a size two!

I HATE THEM!!!!

IMO, today's clothing in general isn't flattering on anyone, regardless of size.

It was the same here. Until I have a six-pack (which is to say, never), you'll never catch me in anything that accentuates my waistline, or lack thereof! On a similar note, it'd sure be swell if they'd make some short-sleeved shirts in the summer that, um, STILL HAD SLEEVES. Not all of us wish to display arm flab for all the world to see, folks! Sheesh.

I agree, they are nasty looking.

I am a big girl- and before I leave the house I always check for unsitely bulges. But DH's family all have muffin tops- because they all wear skin tight pants- hence not only muffin tops but camel toes too. Ugggghhhhh!! It's nasty!:rotfl2:

who the heck designs those no sleeve shirts for the avenue and Lane byrant!!
I thought maybe I was the only woman who did not want to accentuate my upper arm!!
