We had reservations for a 1-bdrm @ OKW for 08/24-08/30, but needed to change our plans today. My DF, 84, was just diagnosed w/stomach cancer after an emergency endoscopy due to internal bleeding. I called MS this afternoon after leaving the hospital & they not only waived putting our points in holding, but they banked them for next year at the same time too! They said that due to the circumstances of the cancellation, they didn't want to penalize me.......now if only the airlines were so wonderful; Delta only gave me until midnight tomorrow to re-schedule w/ a $25.00 change fee per ticket, or lose the full fare. I still haven't figured out what to do about this one, but am sure glad MS has a heart!

DVC can't guarantee what they will do, but whenever anyone has a serious problem, they should contact them and see what can be done. They usually try to be very understanding.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your father and I hope that everything works out well.

So sorry to hear about your father. Hope things work out well for him. Glad to hear that DVC was compassionate once again in situations like yours. They worked with us this summer when we had to return home early due to my father dying.

Will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Donna

I just read that the major airlines are changing the rescheduling rules; you have up to a year to change the date you want to use the ticket. If you do an online search of a major newspaper, you may find that info. I'm sure United was mentioned, but not sure about Delta.

I found DVC to be very compassionate, too, when members have an emergency. I had planned a 4 night vacation during the weekend of the blackout, and was unable to fly, so I had to cancel. They not only put my points back into my account, they made my holding points and borrowed and transferred points into regular points, and banked them all into next year for me! They couldn't have been nicer about the whole thing! I was absolutely beside myself with grief for losing 160 points, until they helped me out like that.

I am so sorry about your DF. I lost my DF just three weeks ago to colon cancer, diagnosed a year ago, and inoperable due to his age of 84. I found people to be so very kind and caring, and DF had an easy passing thanks to his own natural dignity in the situation he found himself. Plus, the nurses were just wonderful--they should be paid more than the doctors, for all they do to help the families. I can't say enough about their many kindnesses. If you need to talk, please PM, and I will write back.

Thank you so much for all your kind words & thoughts. I just ran home for a bit from the hospital, DF had CAT scan this morning and we'll get results tomorrow. My DF's spirits are very good; he'll have a cardiac work-up on Mon/Tues & then surgery later in the week if Dr. gives clearance.
Cruelladeville, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I know how tough it is; my DM had gall bladder cancer that spread to the liver and passed away ten years ago after a 17 month battle with "the monster". It's a horrible disease.
