Here's what happened

I had a pts reservation a SSR in a studio for the nights of Feb 27&28, a cash reservation through MS for Feb29,March1, and a pts reservation for Mar2,3,4,5,6, checking out the 7th.

I called today to see if there is any availablity at AKV for any part of my trip. MS tells me she has a Dedicated Savanna Studio for the 27th and might be able to get the 28th, after a long hold(15min) she comes back and says she managed to secure a Dedicated Savanna Studio for the 28th as well.:cool1:

Next she checks to see if we can get a DVC cash rate for the same Dedicated Savanna Studio but has to put me on hold again because it only shows Lockoffs available. She comes back after 5 min and askes for my phone # because she doesn't want me to be waiting on the phone for so long and she would just call me back.

She calls back about 10 mins later, and tells me she got the DVC cash rate at the AKV's for Feb 29th and Mar 1st. It's about $110/night more than the cash rate at SSR but it's my girlfriends 30th B-day trip and I want it to be great!

She then says she'll email me the confirmation as it won't get to us before we leave.

At this point I'm so happy I could ask the sweet MS lady on the phone to marry me.

BUT

I go check my email, and nothing yet, oh well, I'll just check on DVC.com to make sure i got the dates right.

Now it says I have 32 points left, which is right, but I can only bank six.

So I call MS back and wait for 20min to talk to somebody about my 26 points in holding. Well it seems MS made the AKV reservation before cancelling the SSR reservation so they put those 26 points into holding because the reservation was cancelled within 30 days.

When I finally got ahold of someone it took awile for them to figure out what happened and told me they will do a manual adjustment on their end, and that I should see the points go back to reservation status.

Has anybody had this happen or should I be worried about not being able to bank these points for a trip next year.

thanks for reading,
Shayne

If MS said they'd fix it, you should be fine. Give them a few days and check the Members' website. If it is still incorrect, call MS again and ask for it to be corrected. Be sure to write down dates & times of calls as well as name of CM who helps you. I don't think you have to worry - it will get fixed at some point.

Yes, I had a similar thing happen when adding a night, they borrowed points when they didn't need to do so. They say it is a system glitch...but really it is safer for them to book it before cancelling your other reservation, as sometimes those new reservations will be grabbed by someone else while they are cancelling the first reservation...then you are left with no where to stay.

There shouldn't be any problem in them making a manual adjustment.

we have had really good luck with "mistakes" we have made with our points. Just call and explain and be very nice...they will straighten it out for you.:lmao:

I had the same thing happen when I left midway through an OKW reservation and moved to BWV. They made the new reservation and then canceled the old and put into holding. I guess I should contact MS and ask them to correct it if it's possible. Thanks.

Technically those points should go into holding. You cancelled a reservation less than 30 days out. The ideal would be that they then use those 'holding' points for the new reservation since you were making it within the time period to use 'holding' points.

I suspect they wanted to be certain you got the other reservation before cancellation the first one. If they cancelled first, and in the 5-minutes it might take to make the other reservation, someone got it first, they you would be left with no reservation at all. So they have to use 'new' points to make the 2nd reservation before freeing up the points from the first reservation.

This is what the computers require. They then must do a manual 'correction' to change the status of the points. I'm not certain but it may take a supervisor to do that manual change, and that's where the changeover might get 'lost'.

Glad to hear everything is working out correctly.

Thanks everyone for responding, I feel alot better about getting the points out of holding.
I'm just so happy about getting into the AKV for those 4 nights.

I thought once you checked in all the points are considered used even if you leave early. How did you manage to get them put in holding?

Just call and explain. I had a similar problem that needed to get worked out before my banking deadline. It was a bit complicated because of developer points. If the manual fix needs to be done by someone other than MS if will take quite a bit longer but will get done. My fix took over three weeks and extended through the banking deadline. I kept checking and they kept ensuring me over the phone that a note was on my account and I wouldn't lose the ability to bank the points. It did all eventually work out and I didn't need to worry....but checking certainly helps.

Do you think it would just be easier to wait until the 7 mos. mark and book either day by day or the entire ressie at once? I'm seeing several posts now where pts. are getting messed up either after waitlists are honored or ressie's changed at 7 mos. Kinda scaring me! :sad2:
