Ms. Franklin and the National Anthem JUST TERRIBLE

I said to my girlfriend, "When did Aretha start sounding like an American Idol contestant!?!" She and Aaron Neville were horrible.

I have to agree Everytime Aretha opened her eyes she looked like she was waking up & as bad as she sounded, Aaron Neville was god awful in his rendition

It was hideous! I was embarassed for them.

I also agree that the national anthem does not need to be embellished or "jazzed" up. That always sets my teeth on edge!

It was painful to listen to..even Roseanne Barr did a better job...

And how does Aaron Neville always get chosen to sing at these events? He is awful...

It wasn't as bad as Rosanne Barrs, and slightly better than Carl Lewis. Carrie Underwood did a good rendition at a playoff game this year and will always love Whitney's version. Well at least Neville/Franklin sang it live.

Always jazzin up or something to it

My dad says the same thing EVERY time we watch someone sing it. Except for Whitney Houston's version which was just awesome. Of course, this was waaay back in the day when she actually had a career!
