Mrs. Jackson's Multicultural Lit Class Eats Around the World 2009

:dancer:Ah the wonders of Disney. Being that Epcot is one of my favorite of Disney's theme parks, I embraced the opportunity to be a part of the field trip, making sure I was one of the first to turn in my money and forms, solidifying my place on the trip's roster. Coincidentally, I am also a devoted and highly self-acclaimed food critic. And for giving me the chance to partake in 2 of my favorite activities in a single day, as well as missing a day of school, I thank you Mrs. Jackson. :worship:

And now, the food, but no wine. :littleangel:

It occured to me, as I entered the park, that I was slightly limited when it came to my ability to purchase food, as I had not yet recieved my paycheck for the week. However, I was determined to seek out the item I love most; chinese food. This search literally drove me all over the world. I ignored the cheddar soup in Canada, said no to sushi in Japan, passed over the array of desserts in France, and scoffed at German sausages and strudels. Now, some items were harder to ignore than others: Lamb in Australia, chicken in Morocco, and whatever it was that smelled so darn good in Mexico. But alas, I was able to control myself as I was on a budget and had a serious craving for the orient. And then, just as I was about to run to Africa for a taste from home, I stumbled upon the Lotus Blossom Cafe in Shanghai. As I walked in, sometime around 11:06 am, I immediately noticed that there was not much on the menu to choose from. Little did I know, that what I did find there would change my world forever. :rotfl:

The following is a detailed description of that dish: perfectly cooked golden brown nugget-sized chunks of chicken, crunchy on the outside with a tender all white meat inside, engulfed in a sweet, yet tangy orange sauce; not too overbearing, but with enough flavor to last a lifetime. All this sitting atop a steaming pile of beautiful white rice with a host of delectable sauces to enhance the already perfect meal. Add a large Sprite to wash it all down and now you're talking baby. Granted, good food like this doesnt come cheap, (I had to shell out a whopping 8 dollars and 49 cents for the meal and 2 dollars and 39 cents for my drink). But hey, it's Disney, and the food is good. Prepared by some of China's finest, I give this meal 2 thumbs up and would recommend it, and the festival as a whole, to any one of my friends, family, or associates.

Who knew you were a "devoted and highly self-acclaimed food critic?" As I told you last week, any career where your words and your ability to shape them to any situation will serve you well.

Mrs. Jackson

I look forward to these reviews every year! The class does a very good job of trying such a variety of foods, and describing them to all of us!!

Thank you!!

QUESADILLA CON CHORIZO

10-09-09_1127.jpg

Quesadilla con chorizo is a tortilla that raps chorizo, sausage chunks, arround. it has a kind of spacy taste, I personally liked it, but it should be served in a bigger size it's sold at the Mexico booth for 3.25$.

Nuerberger

10-09-09_1200.jpg

The nuerberger is kind of like a hot dog but with a large and tasty saussage, it has a bread that is crunchy in the outside but soft in the inside you should defenetely try it. it is on the germany booth and it costs 4.25. it also comes with side of mustard.

Kaki Gory

10-09-09_1215.jpg

Kaki Gory is a tea flavored Japanese shaved ice, it has an amazing taste. If you are an ice lover, you should try it. I have to admit i ate two of this Kaki Gory, they are also serve in cherry, and melon falvord.
well this was my report hope you guys liked it. =]

Having recently attended the Food and Wine festival only trying the food not wine, I went to China and ate at Lotus Blossom. I had Orange Chicken with steamed white rice. I definetely enjoyed the food. The chicken was sweet and tender the rice well cooked, however it was pricy. The price was $8.49. Keep in mind it was one of the more economical options. If one was to go to Epcot and visit i would recommend this restaurant and meal.

I recommend that everyone goes to the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. :cool1:It gives you a chance to taste foods from many different cultures. I chose to eat in China at the Lotus Blossom Cafe. I ordered the orange chicken entree that came with steamed white rice. The orange chicken was really good and was nice and crunchy, not soggy like orange chicken from other Chinese places. It was a little expensive ($8.49) but it is a Disney park so of course it's not a reasonable price but other than that it is worth buying and I recommend that everyone stops by this place and tries their orange chicken. Nothing can go wrong with orange chicken! :thumbsup2

This was in Austria, it was grilled lamb chop. It was very tasty, but not worth the money , it was $ 5.50. It had a really good flavor to it, I would encourage you to buy only if it was bigger, else you might want to try something else.

This was spicy tuna roll, this was in tokyo. I'm not a big fan of raw food so I didnt like it that much. I would recommend it if you like sushi, I gave it to my friend and he loved it. Over all it was only $ 3.75 so I would encourage you to buy this one.

This other one was Kefta pocket. It was ground beef and lettuce inside a moroccan bread. It was only $5, and definitely worth every single penny. It was very satisfied after eating it, so I recommend it.

On my trip to EPCOT I visited Shanghai, China and ate at the Lotus Blossom restaurant. I had the famous orange chicken and white rice. The taste was very good because the chicken was not dripping sauce, which I do not enjoy. I paid 8.49 for this meal which was reasonable. I would recommend it to anyone that likes chicken with a tangy kick to it.

Since life is short and we wanted to eat dessert first (we were really hungry) we started to eating at the German bakery first and we ate Apple Strudel with Vanilla sauce. It cost $3.00 and the taste was really really good. I don`t like German food but the german dessert is always good and the apple strudel is the best. :)

The next stop was the Italian bakery where we ate Cannelloni. It cost $4.50. After the dessert and the appetizer we were still hungry:):), so we went to the Italian restaurant. Four of us share two entrees. The two meal were Casarecci and Lasagne 'Al Forno' :rotfl: Both of them pasta.

My sister lives in Italy and I have eaten real Italian food. The food that I ate in Epcot was similar but not exactly the same but was still very good. One of my favorite foods is Italian food. When I was in the Italian section of Epot I felt like I was in Italy with my sister. :love2:
Thanks Mrs. Jackson so much, that I got chance to go to Epcot, because maybe I never go to Epcot any time.

While traveling with my group we decided to eat at a sit down restaurant instead of the sample stands.

We decided to venture to China and when you come to the sample booth, look to your left and there is a passage way to go down these Chinese buildings. As you follow down you will see on your left hand side there is the restaurant Lotus Blossom Cafe.

This restaurant had awesome food to eat, specially if you love Chinese!!!! :)

This is the menu they had at the restaurant:

I had the Orange Chicken and Steamed Rice and it was amazingg!! Definitely better then what they serve in the mall. The price of this was $8.49, yes alittle pricey but you do get a bigger portion then what you would get at the booths. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Chinese!!:yay::woohoo:

This is what the Orange Chicken and Steamed Rice looked like,(mouth watering!!)

At the Paris, France booth i tried Escargot Persillade en Brioche which is garlic snails and bread for $4. I have never had snails:snail: before and i was alittle nervous.:confused3 To my suprise it was actually really good; it tasted like garlic spread and bread. I give it:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

At the New Delhi, India booth i had Chilled Mango Lassi which is like a mango yogurt drink for $2.45. It was thicker than i expected it to be( it took the lady pouring it awhile to fill the cup and it was a small cup). It tasted really good though like it was made from pure mango not else. I give it:thumbsup2

At the Melbourne, Australia booth i had Lamington which is a traditional Australian butter cake for $3. It was covered in chocolate frosting with shredded coconut. It was delicious!! I give this the cloud9 award:cloud9:

The strawberry tart at the French Pastry shop was AMAZING!!! The price was $4.25 this money was definitely well spent. It consisted of a pastry shell, a whip cream like filling, and glazed strawberries. I recommend for everyone to try this dish, it was an amazing dessert.

056.jpg

The next thing I tried was the Escargot Persillade en Brioche (snails) this was also in France. The price was $4.50. They were actually really good. I thought that they were going to have an exotic taste but they weren't too extravagant. The Escargot Persillade en Brioche had a miniature bread bowl with garlic and butter, and inside were the snails. I also recommend for everyone to try this dish. Also if you are the type of person who judges the food by what it looks like I suggest not opening the bread bowl.

Moving on to Australia was the Lamington, which is a traditional Australian butter cake. It consists of cake covered in a chocolate mousse, and coconut shavings. The only thing bad about this food was the size because it was delicious. The cost was $3.00

047.jpg

Last but not least is the Mango Lassi. This drink was very good it tasted like straight up mangoes. Which is great for those fruit lovers! This was at the New Delhi in India it had a very thick texture and it was very cold. The cost was $2.75 which I think is pretty good price for this drink. party:

I chose to review the Tonosama Combination which consisted of chicken teriyaki, sukiyaki beef,. a fried shrimp on a stick and steamed rice. It was a very original, yet authentic dish and could be found easily in the U.S, which is why I would recommend choosing any other dish besides that one. Overall it was delicious and when the rice was mixed with the teriyaki and sweet and sour sauce it was really good. The meal cost $8.99 and was worth it.

At Disney s Food & Wine festival we went first to Munich, Germany. Only a few of the food choices looked appetizing so we decided to go with the dessert, a apple strudel with vanilla sauce. It tasted almost identical to an American apple pie with vanilla icecream and was only $3.00

We also went over to Bologna, Italy. We tried the Cannelloni there and it was absolutely delicious! Cannelloni is baked pasta tubes filled with ricotta cheese. It is also topped with tomato, bechamel and parmesan cheese, it tastes very similar to lasagna but much better. You are given a descent amount for a sample at only $4.50.

I first went to France's Chefs de France and ate the Crepe Basquare. It is basically grilled chicken smoked with peppers and onions. The chicken also comes with a mixed salad. The cost of the meal was $12.75. I still enjoyed it because chicken is always good to me. The price was a reasonable price for a sit down restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant because it had other good meals that looked delicious and tasted great.

My last stop was in Japan. I ate at Yakitoro and tried the Chicken Teriyaki. It was just chicken glazed with teriyaki sauce with a side of rice. The cost was $7.49 with tax. It tasted good but it was a little too salty and too sweet, but overall it was satisfying. The price for it was reasonable considering the fact that Disney's prices are usually expensive. Even though it was good, I wouldn't recommend it because it tasted like any other chicken teriyaki and is not really worth it if you wanna try something different.

This stuff was so nasty LOL it was plane and had no taste at all Lotos Blossom is the a place that i wouldn't dare try eating their shrimp and rice again. The only reason i thought id eat it is because it reminded me of the shrimp fried rice -hence the word **FRIED** it was just something i couldn't do over again im sorry but that restaurant if i was to give a score would get a 3 out of 10 i didn't like it but that doesnt mean that you wont everyone always tells mr dont knock it untill youve tried it but that i will not do ever again:mad::sad2::confused::scared1:

On Friday 10/09/09, I went to EPCOT with my friends for a class at school. At the Food and Wine Festival I went to Lotus Blossom Cafe. The orange chicken in which I bought from china was 8.95, was very great. The chicken was fried and had an orange sauce on it. The chicken was served with white rice which was a great side. I thought that the food was wonderful for the price. After eating one a plate I was full. I would highly recommend going to China and going to the Lotus Blossom Cafe.
