Mr Potato Head- Once upon a Toy

I am so excited to do this with my kids. Like, beside myself excited. I'm from Rhode Island and when the state did that Potato Head statue thing, my friends and I spent a whole day hunting down and taking pictures with all the statues. Obsessed? Maybe. :) I seriously am already wondering if two boxes is enough, but I really don't want the big potato head because we already have a huge storage tub for our Mr. Potato Heads.

No one says you have to take the big Potato head container home with you. :rolleyes1

Oh another thing to get addicted too..lol.. my 3 yr old will love all the tater head parts!

we are taking our DS 6 for his first trip in October to WDW and we will definitley be buying the Mr Potato Head parts when there - we are taking our own Mr Potato head body with us so we will have more space for Disney accessories.

thanks

For some of the larger pieces, you can pay for them seperately. I can't remember the cost but I did that for the Buzz Lightyear ride piece. I think it was about $2.

I am glad you can buy the seperately, my 3yr old wants the buzz pieces and pirate pieces, anyone seen them recently! They are high on ebay once you add in shipping and I know some are way overcharging on shipping because the can go in priority shipping boxes for alot less then what they are charging!

I'm so looking forward to this. Now that we have a child I feel like we have an excuse to get them. For anyone that needs the spuds (wants to buy before hand so as not to waste room in teh box)hey were selling a Mr. potato head family kits at Costco in a big potto head container for $18. Mr., Mrs., a cat and a dog. The kit even included Mrs.'s angry eyes. I wondered if they had alwasy been pat of the kit or if they were added after she put them on in that commercial not too long ago.

I haven't been to WDW in 17 years and I have never heard of this. We are going in December and I have 4 yr old twins - one boy and one girl - I have now put this on our 'must do' list!!! :yay:
What are the 'rules'?
Does it matter what size box you use? (As long as Mr P and MLP is on it?)

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

fyi, the my little pony has been discontinued : ( rules are the box or giant plastic mr potato head container must close. you can fit a surprising amount in them tho! the box for mr potato head i cant really remember the size of, as we always get the giant plastic mr potato head which i believe was 44.95 to fill vs 1995 for the small box. we go with that one as some of the pieces for the various outfits are quite large, like the buzz costume or ariels wig.

i've read many times that if you're having problems trying to make it fit a cm will help you with a few tricks or advise you on how to stuff more in there. i can only say i've read it on here, an i'm sure they do, we just haven't been lucky enough to get some extra help so we just keep shoving in anything that will fit and dumping the tiny things in to the crevasis. have fun!

We just got back with a packed box. It is amazing, if you fill every open space with the smaller items how much that box will hold.

We did this in 2009 with my DD4 at the time. She loved it. For all of you sports Moms/Dads out there with older kids we took the potato head and parts to all the games. It kept her entertained and they are super easy to wash!:cool1: My older children loved the challenge of fitting pieces into the box ...it became quite funny:banana:

I am sad to hear they discontinued the My Little Pony - we did that last year and the girls still play with them--- did they replace them with anything????

not to my knowledge, i think they just expanded the princess stock that was in that room. the only way i found out was when i was in the 25$ or less store and sawthem preboxed. i was telling my friend about the mlp section at once upon a toy and the cm said no thats no longer there, this is whats left over. they had taken all that was left in the dispenser unit and boxed it into the pink boxes for i believe 9.99 now. that was back in may.

When we purchased earlier this year we thought we had done pretty good but the CM there, this sweet older lady, would NOT let us go without reconstructing our box and filling every last space possible. Granted, we came home with numerous ears and tongues, but it was nice that she really tried for us to get the most for our money.

Does anyone know if a thread exists of pictures of the different parts that have been available over time? I would be willing to snap a few pics of what we were able to get.

We are going to Disney in November and this is on our list of things to do at DTD. To be sure I understand, do we have to put the actual potato head in the box? I have potato head (Mr. and Mrs.) at home so I don't need to buy any. My preference is to leave them at home, and just fill the boxes with accessories. Can we do that? Or does the head have to be in the box too?

Thanks
Sandi

You can fill the box with accessories only (no potato) if you want. That's what I did.

I'm so happy I found this post. We are leaving in 8 days and I did not know about this. You can bet I just added it on my list of things we MUST do! Thanks everyone.

Is there anywhere in the theme parks that you can do this? We don't normally go to DTD, and I'd love to fill a box with special Disney parts for DD... (we leave tomorrow)

I remember seeing them in a shop in Animal Kingdom but unfortunately I don't recall which one.
