Mr. and Mrs. Weak Sauce Go the Distance (a completed Disneymoon TR!)

Oh! I forgot to tell you our "free dessert" story. We ate at Jiko (just the two of us) the night of our wedding. I loved the one and only meal I had had here in 2006, so I really wanted my husband to experience it. We had the strangest server! She was constantly telling us about all the animals she has and all the diseases and things they get and how sad it is when some of them die. She was perfectly fine as a server, but it was just odd the things she would talk about and her mannerisms. After dinner, we were both really full and she asked about dessert. We both said we were too full, but she tried really hard to get us to order something. Nothing really appealed to me on the menu and I was really full, so I just kept declining. She ended up bringing us out a free dessert. I have no idea what it was. It was green (pistachio, maybe?) mousse with a sort of tea flavor. It was only 2-3 bites so we both tried it and it was just okay (I'm more of a chocolate brownie type of girl :) ). She came back and went on and on about she can't believe we ate it because we were so full and that we were just looking for free dessert. She was joking, but it was the oddest passive aggressive tone. Hooray for free awkwardly pushed dessert! :lmao:

We didn't get any other pixie dust on our honeymoon. Lots of congratulations and things like that, which was nice. We went to Universal/IoA one day and the employees there (are they called CM's too?) were super friendly and told us "congratulations" and asked us about our wedding. I was emotionally/physically exhausted the days after the wedding and it happened to be one of the days we were going to Universal/IoA. When we were going through the turnstiles an older man working at IoA stopped us and congratulated us and said, "I've been married to my wife 55 years and if I could go back and do it all over again, we'd have a lot more fun". We thanked him and I could barely get two steps away before I burst into tears. I'm talking full on ugly crying. I had to sit on a bench and try to calm down because I couldn't even see to walk. I'm sure people passing by thought we just got into an argument or something lol. I think the exhaustion, happiness of being there and the wedding was over, and the fact that that guy was right, you can't go back and change life, just hit me like a ton of bricks.

Wow, I'm just full of stories today! :rolleyes1

Joining in and loving your disneymoon report! You two are sooooo cute (sorry, I don't mean to sound condescending!).

Cheryl

Yay! I'm glad you're enjoying it! Haha, and I don't see that comment as condescending at all. We think we're gosh darn cute when we're alone at home, but to those outside, we figured we were two wackadoos, haha.

I love when my friends share stories! I personally wasn't too intrigued to try Jiko because I wanted to build my way up with less expensive adventurous eating places first. Howard wanted to eat there though, so I'm sure we'll get there eventually. But man, that interaction just sounded so odd! Haha, I mean, it's one thing if you brought up pets or something, but that was so totally random!

I would've felt SO uncomfortable if I was in that situation with the passive aggressive tone. I would've been so embarrassed and depending on my mood, I either would've wanted to cry or maybe even gotten angry and felt the need to rationalize it.

That comment from the IoA CM (like you said, I don't think they're CMs, but that's what we know in our world!) was really sweet. Those are the things that I like hearing. When CMs during this last trip asked about our anniversary, it was nice hearing how some of them said that they were about to celebrate 30 years and all of that and gave us some advice or joked about being married. THOSE interactions I really liked.

I'm not the most adventurous eater, but whenever people post about this restaurant I always wish I was! It always looks so good! I'm glad Rico made it such a special meal for yall. :goodvibes

I probably said this after your first visit to Jiko . . . but I'm going to have to add it to the Must Try list!

I'm sad I never got to try the shirmp in the green sauce though. It looks SO good!

I think it's a good place to go to be SLIGHTLY adventurous. I think Jiko would require a more adventurous palate than Sanaa. Or maybe try Boma? We had that at the end of the trip and loved it!

Yup, that was our second meal at Sanaa! We haven't yet tried Jiko although Howard is definitely interested in it. We'll probably have that in the future!

Yeah, we are still so disappointed! They should at least release that recipe then! I'd definitely attempt the curry sauce at home. Yum.

From Kidani to Jambo

After our amazing meal, we walked back upstairs to the Kidani lobby. I snapped a few pictures in a rush, so they're not very clear.

It's clear to see just how much smaller the Kidani lobby is compared to the Jambo lobby. For our honeymoon, I actually preferred the Jambo one just because of how grand it felt. It made it feel as if our vacation was a big deal, and out of all vacations in our life, our Disneymoon should definitely be the biggest and the best.

I completely understand why Kidani is DVC though because it feels a lot more approachable and a lot more like "home." If we were to ever buy DVC, Kidani would make so much sense, in my opinion. I know a lot of people are excited about the Grand Floridian DVC, but that's just not something that would entice me. I guess I'd feel out of place in that atmosphere.

When we walked out of the resort, we happened to see a big van there. We asked if that was the van to go back to Jambo, and it was so we hopped on in! We were prepared to walk back hand in hand, but if the opportunity was right in front of us, we were going to be lazy!

Considering this occurred over a year ago, I don't quite remember the specific of our van ride, but the kids that were sitting next to this dad were extremely entertaining. That's why I quickly snapped this picture. It's always so much fun to get a glimpse of how other families' vacations are going, and being in that confined space even for just a few minutes was memorable!

Since we didn't have to walk back to Jambo House, we had some energy to explore the resort. Howard had a few things he wanted to show me that he saw while I was napping.

He specifically wanted to show me this animal named Roscoe. He had watched some CMs in the area and called him by name. Later on we found out what animal he was in our little packet in our room, but I don't think I wrote it down anywhere. As you can see in the videos if you take a peek, he kept yanking the grass out of the ground and then walking underneath the trees to place it down somewhere before returning to do it again!

VIDEO: Roscoe 1
(You can hear the sound that he makes when he yanks the grass out of the ground.)

VIDEO: Roscoe 2
(We went a few floors down and got a better view ... and a nice whiff of all the animals!)

VIDEO: Roscoe 3
(Here a CM opens up a door in the fence so that Roscoe can move to the next area.)

We were interested in the jobs that these CMs had.

It's interesting that there's such a vast amount of space around the resort, but if you pay attention, you'll see how it's all divided up by fences.

As we moved a few floors down, we were hit with the smell of the animals. I comment in one of the videos that I had read some reviews of AKL and how some people didn't appreciate the smell of the animals as they stepped out on their balconies. To the left of us were some rooms that could definitely have had that experience.

We stepped back into the resort and passed this area that looked down upon rocking chairs outdoors! Rocking chairs automatically make me think of reading.

Animals!

People!

Then I suddenly realized exactly where we were. I had seen the map of the two resorts, which gives you an aerial view. I didn't realize that Jambo and Kidani were THAT close together! I mean, if you look in this picture, there's SANAA! Suddenly it made sense to me. I think it was cool to have the view from this side. Then I was saying how they should make a bridge that goes from that spot where we were standing to the restaurant. Haha, we would've walked there EVERY NIGHT.

Back to the lobby!

I had to sit in this chair because it looked so interesting. The height and curve of the chair made me think of how it'd be another good place to settle down with a book.

Here you look down into the bar area called Victoria Falls, if I'm not mistaken, and then at the back, you can see Boma.

VIDEO: AKL Lobby
(Around 30 seconds, you can hear some drumming and some shouting. At 1:15, you can see the little girl who's really into the parade with the CM and what seems to be her siblings or cousins or something who are much older just following along because they didn't have a choice, haha.)

VIDEO: The Walk to Our Room
(A few comments at the end! We were joking about how all the people in the pool had to go eat dinner!)

What's hilarious is that at the end of this video, I quickly turn it off because I said the room was messy with the clean laundry on the bed, but then I ended up taking a picture of it anyway!

We had a longer day with our attempt at MK EMH and a dinner out at Sanaa. Would we have the energy to get up the next morning?

I had lots of updates to catch up on!

-holy line at Pirates! :crazy2: I don't think I've ever seen it that long before on both sides of the queue. How long did it take to get through?
-Richard Alpert works at WDW?! :rotfl:
-I love chemistry, the labs & balancing equations. I'm a NERD :rotfl2:
-How totally bogus that you have a pineapple allergy now!
-Howard did laundry on your honeymoon, how sweet!
-I know what you mean about Kidani being more home than Jambo. We love having it as our DVC home. Definitely feels like it when you walk in. :thumbsup2

For this trip, he only had one lens. I just texted him to ask him what it was, and he replied back with this: "It was the ultra wide. It's called Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 at-x116 pro dx." I have NO clue what that means, but maybe it'll be helpful to you! Haha. During our Christmas trip last year, he had 2 lenses that he switched out, and during our trip just two weeks ago, he also borrowed a zoom from one of our church friends.

Thank you so much! Yes it was helpful :goodvibes

And I also meant to comment (I'm not so good at commenting on TR's when I join in on the fun late) but I am so sad that you developed an allergy to pineapple  :sad1: I don't know what I would do if that happened to me. Pineapple is one of my favorite fruit and one of my favorite foods. Hopefully, it can un-develop for you as well ::yes::

You're just making me want to stay at AKL more and more! It's so beautiful and unique, I just love it. VERY good to note about the animal smell in certain places though! I'm not sure I'd even want a savannah view anyway, since you can view the animals from anywhere!

I remember that little guy from when Dad and I stayed at Kidani Village. I think it's a red river hog or something like that??? We only saw him once though!

I think when I go on my next trip I will need to go back to AKL just to check out the savanna!

That's so bad about your pineapple allergy, why couldn't an allergy have developed to a fruit you don't like instead of one you did :confused3

Your pics of AKL have me wanting to stay there more and more everytime you update. And I definitely think I need to check out Sanaa in the near future after hearing your rave reviews. That's too sad they removed your favorite entrée from the menu though. The same thing happened to me with the Coral Reef and I was highly disappointed to see the new changes.

I can't wait to hear more:goodvibes

"it's a small world"
I wonder how often they get the change from IASW. What do they do with that money?

Hey Rachel, I haven't been around in awhile but thought I would drop in and check out what has happened in your TR in the last couple months. I had to laugh when I saw this picture!

I adore IASW and the coins in the water always make me think of my Grandfather. He was always looking for coins and had a reputation for finding them on the ground wherever he went. We rode once together when I was a kid and he told me he would clean the water for free if he could keep all the coins (back then I remember seeing the tickets in the water too. Odd memory maybe but it makes me smile)

Hey, great trip report so far. Congrats on your wedding :-) I have to say I love the theme in the Animal Kingdom Lodge....it's very calm and warming. That's why it's my favorite hotel and why I can't wait to stay there again in Sep. 2013 and Jan. 2014. I can't wait to read more about your trip. :surfweb:

Hanging Out with Jack Sparrow

Nerdy pirate wear though makes more sense for me. Too bad chemistry was my least favorite science! Biology was my favorite, physics was my second favorite (though it required more studying than bio), and chemistry was just something I didn't quite enjoy. I liked the labs and working with all the acids because I felt powerful (muahahaha), but it just wasn't as interesting to me as the other two. I actually asked if I could teach life science this past year at school, but they had already hired a science teacher and they wanted to keep me on as one of the math and ELA teachers because we handle state testing. What was your favorite science?

[/img]

Well since you asked :scratchin

I am a science teacher and I enjoy most of the sciences (physics being my least favorite) but my first college degree was in geology so I love earth science best! I taught it and environmental science exclusively for 8 years but I am now in a school where I am the only secondary science teacher so I'm doing it all now!

I'm going to have to check out that shirt on my next trip! We have never stopped to do the pirate tutorial, hoping to do it in December but am a little nervous about the Christmas crowds and how easy (or rather, NOT easy) that will be :scared:

Oh, and I get what you are saying about being a fairly plain girl, I am too but as a fellow redhead, I've always liked that scene!

I don't remember how long it took to get through the queue at POTC, but it was long enough to make me feel like, UGH, this is taking FOREVER! Haha. I know it might not have actually been TOO long though because often times when I feel that way, I look at my watch and it'll be like 10 minutes.

Right?! Haha, he was probably the "creepiest" CM that I've ever seen just because I was convinced he was Richard!

Haha, yay for a nerd who actually likes chem! I really only liked the labs because it was fun to deal with the chemicals, haha.

Seriously! We went to Cracker Barrel the other day, and I asked what the seasonal fruit was and she said pineapple. I was so excited to have some fresh fruit after the meal, but that couldn't happen.

We would DEFINITELY buy into Kidani as our DVC if that was an option for us! It'll never happen though since my parents have their timeshare in Kissimmee and we can stay there.

Thank you so much! Yes it was helpful :goodvibes

You're welcome! I never quite understand all of the DSLR stuff he talks about. I just like seeing how he gets better as each Disney trip passes.

Yes! I would be so happy if it could un-develop because I still look at it in the circulars and there's a part of me that's like, I want to buy it!

You're just making me want to stay at AKL more and more! It's so beautiful and unique, I just love it. VERY good to note about the animal smell in certain places though! I'm not sure I'd even want a savannah view anyway, since you can view the animals from anywhere!

It was definitely the lower floors that had more of the smell. It wasn't bad higher up, but of course, we didn't have an actual savannah view. I can imagine how awesome it'd be to be able to see the animals in the morning and at night though!

I remember that little guy from when Dad and I stayed at Kidani Village. I think it's a red river hog or something like that??? We only saw him once though!

I think when I go on my next trip I will need to go back to AKL just to check out the savanna!

Yes! It must have been a red river hog. I just Googled it and the baby ones are super cute. Looking back on it now, I wish that I spent more time watching the animals!

That's so bad about your pineapple allergy, why couldn't an allergy have developed to a fruit you don't like instead of one you did :confused3

Yeah! I don't like cantaloupe so getting hives from that doesn't bother me. Haha, it worked our when my dad was like, "You need to eat more fruit; eat this cantaloupe" and I could say, "No, I get hives."

It's so sad when they have menu changes that remove a favorite dish! I haven't been eating at the Disney restaurants long enough to have experienced it before, but it's really upsetting to think it could happen again! Haha, I guess that means we should go way more often so that we can enjoy our favorites over and over again!

Hey Rachel, I haven't been around in awhile but thought I would drop in and check out what has happened in your TR in the last couple months. I had to laugh when I saw this picture!

Thanks for popping in! I'll still be here whenever you have the time because it's taking so long for me to write this, haha.

Aww, what a sweet memory! I love when things like that really remind us of fond memories of people! Those coins must've been so tempting to your grandfather!

Hey, great trip report so far. Congrats on your wedding :-) I have to say I love the theme in the Animal Kingdom Lodge....it's very calm and warming. Thank you! I'm so glad you're here. I totally understand why it can be someone's favorite resort. I admit that I wasn't so excited about it before the trip because pictures just don't do it justice. I initially thought the Poly would be something I'd enjoy, but it's definitely AKL!

I wonder what it'd be like if I could have taken earth science from a teacher who LOVED it! The little bit that I've had in more general classes was boring because you could clearly tell the teacher didn't enjoy the subject. Teachers can make all the difference!

The Christmas crowds for me were really bad because I started getting a cold, so the weather wasn't helping how I was feeling. I think if you go there with the attitude of knowing that it'll be crowded and you should get there early, it'll be fine though. We went knowing that it was an extra trip in the year and that we could enjoy the atmosphere. It worked for those first few days before I was fully sick!

Haha, totally understand! It wasn't so much that she was a redhead but because she was the fancy-shmancy one in that dress and in that pose.

It's 1pm ... in the Morning

As I mentioned in my last update, I said that we had a FULL day with our attempt at MK EMH, we might not be able to get up in the morning. Well, that's exactly what happened! Basically, Howard woke up "on time," but I was way too tired to get up so we ended up going back to sleep! Haha, can you blame us? I don't think I recovered from the wedding stuff until I was done with work and on summer vacation a month AFTER our honeymoon!

As you can hear in the first video, we didn't make it to the bus stop until 1pm! Haha. Whoops! We only had a little bit of cereal and half of the remaining donut that we had gotten from our Garden Grocer order. Then if you take a look at the second video, you'll see what Howard forgot in the room! Haha. It was the second day in a row that he forgot something, but there was no way that we were going to have him go back to the room to get it considering what happened the day before with forgetting his memory card and being separated for a while. In the last video, you will see that he forgot his celebrating button. It seems as if Howard forgot a lot of things, but the celebrating button thing is actually MY fault! Later that day when we returned to the resort, I found my button on my jacket, which means I took his from the dresser to put on! Whoops! And we were also hoping to get "Just Married" pins even though I had read that they don't have them anymore.

VIDEO: Bus Stop Rambling #1

VIDEO: Bus Stop Rambling #2

VIDEO: Bus Stop Rambling #3

You can see in this video that we weren't entirely sure whether we were going to Epcot or DHS, so it was going to be surprise for us too. It was something that we could only do with APs. With our regular no expiration tickets, we would've had to be IN the park already! This freedom was really awesome.

I don't remember how long we waited at the bus stop, but I don't think we were hit with anything too long. I guess it helped that we were always under the shade at the resort. I took a picture of my nails that I attempted to fix. It's funny that I did my own nails for my wedding, but in the pictures, I don't think you can tell. I've never gotten a manicure in my life, and I don't know that I ever will unless I have to for someone else's wedding. Otherwise I think I'm getting pretty good at doing my own nails. Plus, I do know now how important base coat and top coat are, haha. I finally purchased some base coat a few weeks ago and used it on my CURRENT manicure, and today is day 4 without chipping! Awesome! Haha, too bad I didn't know to do that before the honeymoon because then it would've lasted much better than this! Anyway, in the photo you can see where the original manicure was and then where the "fix" is (especially on my pointer) because my nail is divided in half because of it! Haha. But again, from far away, you can't tell the difference, in my opinion.

When the bus arrived, it was pretty empty, but I guess that's what happens when you start your day at 1pm, haha. Just because we had mainly the entire bus to ourselves, I wanted to sit all the way in the back and in the middle!

Empty, CLEAN, and COOL bus!

I really liked this photo despite it's blurriness because it was like, ahhhh, we're married! Haha. I know it's completely silly, but it was cute that he put his hand on my knee kind of protectively and lovingly, if that makes sense.

So this looks very similar to the other picture of the almost empty bus, but there's one difference. There was a guy who got on the bus and stood by the back door. We were wondering why he didn't want to sit down!

We have arrived! Yay! I know that the majority of people love the castle at MK, but for some reason, Spaceship Earth seems so much more iconic to me. I guess I was never a girl that wanted to live in the castle, but the fact that there was a ride in the "golf ball" was way more enticing. Plus, I always remembered that commercial where Mickey was standing on top of Spaceship Earth, and it fascinated and scared me at the same time!

I had my pink Mickey hair thingie on that morning so I could still feel somewhat wedding-y because of the pink and green (our wedding colors). The only thing that I didn't like was that I didn't want to stretch out the hair tie so I used white ones to do my original ponytail. With my hair being so long, it was pretty heavy! And HOT. Of course, once it's cut, I miss it.

Whoa, super long line at Spaceship Earth! We really were not expecting these types of crowds in May. We thought it was going to be less crowded than Easter crowds, which I'm used to. It was probably the heat that made it worse.

Our first stop was Guest Relations where we went to get new "I'm Celebrating" button. the CM there decided to give a whole bunch to us so now we're prepared for any occasion! Haha.

Huge stack of buttons!

Since we were there, we also asked to see the pin book that was there. It's so sad that the pin book was filled with so many scrappers. I did choose these two, but we ended up trading them away anyway. I liked the Disney baby because EVENTUALLY we will hopefully have our own Disney baby, haha. But for right now, it's not in our plans so that's why we traded it! I'm also "strange" in that I don't like the pins that are just one color even if they are chasers. I much prefer the colorful ones.

We had our destination in mind, but we walked through Innoventions because I already needed some AC! We were only in the park for a short time, but it was already unbearable.

We were headed here!

And we had to be here for one reason only! I mean, it was way past 1pm, and we were HUNGRY!

It's no secret that Howard and I both have our favorite dishes here.

VIDEO: Nom-ing at Sunshine Seasons
(I always feel as if I want to will the CM to add more toppings to my salad as he/she is making it.)

We did have a little stumbling block before we could eat our favorite dishes because the CM who rung up our dishes actually put in the Mongolian Beef Stir Fry so we had to go back to get the price fixed. You can see it in the video. What's funny is that we saw that CM this past trip, and we were wondering if he recognized us because we looked at him and he looked at us!

So what did we eat? Well, of course, I had the Roasted Beets and Goat Cheese Salad that is tossed with Honey Sherry dressing ($7.89). This past trip just a few weeks ago, I was hoping to get it again, but I saw that they really did change it to be cut up beets instead of these slices. I know it's still a beet, but I miss this old version of it. I actually DIDN'T order it during this past trip! Whoa, right?

Howard had the Togarashi Seared Tuna Noodle Salad ($9.99) again. This was the meal I had during our June trip, and boy, it can be spicy depending on the day! Sometimes it's not as strong. Too bad they can't regulate it more so that you know what you're going to get.

Since we were hungry, we also added on the side of macaroni and cheese because having something on the warm side can help us feel fuller.

We went to sit in the winter section, which is our favorite even though that little offshoot was closed off for the day. Haha, this is completely deja vu for me to be writing about this because it's the same meal for us! But like I've said beforehand, we like what we like! I also very much like my husband's cute face, hehe.

This picture is to indicate it was the second time that we were having this meal during this trip! Haha, I know it looks as if I'm throwing up the "fob" sign though, so that's why we thought it was hilarious taking this picture.

I think things that are partially yellow and red are really pretty like when you see the gorgeous tulips that have that mix of colors. Haha, I guess the same can be said about beets!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and slowly walked on out of The Land with fuel to "start" our day even though it was already the afternoon!

So this looks very similar to the other picture of the almost empty bus, but there's one difference. There was a guy who got on the bus and stood by the back door. We were wondering why he didn't want to sit down!

I guess he wanted to make ABSOLUTELY SURE he was going to be the VERY FIRST person off of that bus!!!! :lmao:

Great update! But I got hot just thinking about walking into the park at 1 pm in the middle of June. :scared: (I know that's supposed to be a "scared" smilie, but it is representative of me sweating :rotfl:).

Yay for clean buses!!! :thumbsup2
And empty ones are fun. Even if you are heading to the park at 1pm :)

I spy a button that says "My magical triumph" and my excitement level just went THROUGH THE ROOF :yay:

I have still been following along even though I haven't commented for a while. I think you did a great job on your manicure also. Kudos on saving money!

Whoops! It's been 6 months since I posted a round for Weak Sauce Points (see here for the explanation of these games)! It seems as if I've completely forgotten about the game, but no worries! I will make up for it by posting 5 rounds here that are up for ANYONE to score points! Just as a reminder, here is the latest scoreboard after Round 23 that I just copied and pasted from the beginning of January.

Weak Sauce Points Scoreboard

These next few rounds are dedicated to Howard and his love for LIGHT FIXTURES! These rounds are, I guess, more like a variation of Cropped since it's not actually cropped at all! These are the original pictures that he took. Since it's been a while since rounds were posted so it's kind of random that I'm throwing them back in my trip report, I'm requesting that your guesses be sent to me by PRIVATE MESSAGE ONLY. This means that anyone who sends in correct answers can get the weak sauce points!

Where were the pictures of these light fixtures taken? As a hint, these are from the 4 main parks so no water parks, DTD, or resorts. And to make it even easier, none of them are from Animal Kingdom. Remember, only guess per person, so once you send the PM, those will be your final answers. I'll leave these rounds open for the rest of this week so you'll have until 7/13! Good luck!
