Mr. and Mrs. Weak Sauce Go the Distance (a completed Disneymoon TR!)

Your Love is...Facebook status is so romantic!:lovestruc

AKL is impressive. It's true, the hallways there, really draw you in and there are so many animal viewing spots and places to discover. I would love to talk to a CM who can point out the significance of all of the features of the lobby. There's so much to absorb. The catwalk picture is great.

Thank goodness you included the 2nd pic of the giraffe enclosure. I saw the gate open and thought this update is not going to end well. Then the next pic showed the CM caring for them. Whew! I worry to much.:worried: :faint:

I just have to start this by saying that when Howard saw the pictures I posted from AKL, he was upset that they were so dark, haha. This was before he started shooting in raw and editing photos and such, so I just took whatever photos he had on his memory card! Haha, I asked if he was going to edit them, and he said he might so if so, I'll just a new update with a few of the better pictures!

What a sweet Husband to let you sleep!

The AKL is just stunning! I am always in awe of how beautiful it is. It has so many lovely details like the light fixtures that I am always finding something new!

He's awesome that way. He's very concerned about my health, and if I push myself, I usually end up paying for it later anyway.

I am dying to go back! It is so awesome!

The fourth Pirates movie was actually good, in my opinion! But yeah, not all the characters were in it. I'll just say this: the mermaids? TERRIFYING.

Bad language and bleeps bother me too. There are so many other words you can use... it's pointless.

I'm sorry about your pineapple allergy! I actually can't stand pineapple (even though I like pineapple flavored things... go figure haha) so I wish I could give you my ability to eat it!

Love Howard's AKL photos! That's one of my top 3 dream resorts. It's just amazing.

I know I'll eventually watch the most recent movie. I love the action and adventure of it all! But I think I'm going to be terrified of the mermaids! I cannot look in the water in the ride. The fact that there's light down there freaks me out so much!

Exactly! So many words in the English language, and you don't have any creativity to choose anything else?

Haha, that'd be awesome if we could trade allergies to fit what we like to eat.

I never expected to be able to stay at a deluxe resort! We are SO grateful to Joanna for those DVC points because otherwise there'd be no way we could ever afford it ourselves.

I agree with you about the Lonely Island! I think that they're hilarious, but the cursing actually takes away from it IMHO. That said, I do curse occaisionally (if I lifting weights at Crossfit, I curse a lot!) but when it comes to music and comedy, I don't find that it adds anything to it at all.

Sorry about your new-found allergy. Pineapple is a fruit that I absolutely love and I'm looking forward to finally getting a Dole whip on our upcoming trip. I am trying to figure out some other potential allegies as I tend to get really terrible hives, but only on my legs and I can't figure out what's triggering them. Allergic reactions are NO FUN!:headache:

Yeah, in entertainment stuff, I feel as if it's added in because people think it'll give them "street cred" or something. Haha, I don't typically ever use that term so I had to put in quotation marks.

I get hives too once in a while from food, but it goes away in a few hours. I haven't actually tried to narrow it down to figure out what it is. I think it stinks that people have food allergies at all! I can't imagine what people do who have like, gluten allergies and such.

So sorry for the pineapple allergy. That really stinks. FYI, you don't have to have a scratch test ,they can do blood work to test. I LOVE Howard's pictures of AKL. It is one of our favorites because it is so relaxing.

Oh, I didn't know they could just do it with the blood work! That'd be so much easier because I don't mind blood work as much because I'm used to it. Not that I enjoy it, haha, but at least it'd be familiar!

Oh no, that is a bummer about not being able to have any more Dole Whip floats! So sad. I am with you on bigger sunglasses-I like ones that sort of wrap around my eyes. They keep the sun out a lot better!

Those are awesome pictures of AKL! I think once I start round two of my DVC resort stays that'll be one of the first ones!

Passing by that area is super sad! I should try an orange one or something like that.

It's going to be so difficult trying to find another pair of sunglasses that work for me!

It'd be so cool if my family had DVC although I do love the timeshare my parents' have. I would love to stay at the resorts though and take advantage of being immersed in Disney the whole vacation!

Great updates! So sorry about your pineapple allergy! At least you got to have one last Dole Whip float before you found out. I have never had the Float before, I usually get the swirl. They do have Orange ones, maybe that could be a substitute for you.

Beautiful AKL pics! That was awesome of him to do the Laundry while you napped.

I will definitely have to try an orange one! I do like orange slushie drinks like the Coolatta at Dunkin' Donuts, so I'm sure I'll enjoy that one too.

He was so sweet to just allow me to sleep! I still think it was romantic that he did that.

Oh no, what a bummer about your pineapple allergy!!! That is so weird and random how things you have been eating your whole life can suddenly cause you to have an allergic reaction. The human body can be so weird sometimes! At least you got to have one more Dole Whip. :(

How sweet that Howard volunteered to do some laundry so you could rest. :thumbsup2 What a great husband he is! AKL seems like a good place to wander around and get "lost" while waiting on laundry too. :goodvibes

Since I had so many reactions to pineapple (I even had a reaction when it was in a marinade I used without realizing it), it starts to get to the point where it's like, okay, I don't CRAVE it as much because I know it gets me sick. I just hope that's the only allergy that will develop! I don't want to miss out on other foods I like too!

Doing the laundry at AKL was much better than doing the laundry elsewhere like at Pop! I mean, there are all the things to see there, but considering it was May, it was nice that he got to stay indoors while exploring.

Your Love is...Facebook status is so romantic!:lovestruc

Awww, thanks! I really believe that love is about action, and when he does stuff like that for me, I am so touched!

The one thing I wish we did was the night vision stuff! I think there's a CM to talk to you then. That would've been a unique experience.

Haha, I didn't even realize how that picture looked with the gate open because I knew that the CM was there!

It's Not Deja Vu; It's Sanaa!

On the first night of our Disneymoon, you might remember that we decided to eat at Sanaa because we were too tired to make it to bluezoo after our flight delay. It was so "delicious indeed" (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45600031&postcount=275) that we knew we were going to have to eat there at least one more time during this trip! We picked this night to be the lucky night! As much as we LOVED our first dinner, this dinner definitely trumped the other one because of a few minor changes in our meal order AND because of Rico, our server!

I'm sure many of you have had great experiences at other Disney dining restaurants, but you also know that a great CM can make a meal not as good as it could have been or even BETTER. Rico was one who definitely did the latter! Once he came to our table to greet us, he was so cheerful in wishing us a happy honeymoon and started talking about how much he loved Howard's camera! He picked it up so that he could get a picture of the two of us, which was unbelievably nice because we very rarely have pictures of the two of us that aren't taken with one hand!

He also wanted to take another picture to showcase where we were sitting and to try some new angles, so he took this one as well! You can see that although we weren't right by the windows, we were somewhat close and I could watch the animals if I wanted to. I really liked that we had the room divider right next to us as well so that we could have some sort of "privacy" because I really dislike places that make it seem as if the people at the tables right next to you are wanting to taste your food too!

This meal was already off to a great start! Our server from Monday night wasn't bad at all; she was very good at her job. Rico was just extra warm and friendly that we felt as if this really was a special occasion and not just an everyday dining experience. I was super happy!

We asked that all of our food come out at the same time so that we could just graze over all of it at one time. Personally, I'm not that big of a fan of having an appetizer separate from the entree because I will almost always get full before my meal even arrives at the table! This way I can taste and enjoy everything at once. We had to take pictures of our food first, of course! When I read TRs, I wonder what it must be like when your spouse does not understand taking pictures of food and he/she gets impatient! Thankfully, Howard is all about the picture-taking too! We do it a lot at home when I make something new too.

Rico saw that we were trying to take pictures of our food, so he came over and grabbed Howard's camera once again to take a picture of us from above! Both of them came out blurry because he was holding it over his head as well, but I thought the gesture was really sweet. Haha, he was also really a fan of Howard's DSLR too.

Okay, back to work! And quick! So that we can eat!

During our first meal, we had the Sampler for Two, which was good but not the most memorable part of our meal. We decided to switch it up and try the Mustard Seed-crusted Scallops instead ($8.99). It's served with a coconut cream sauce, but the coconut taste wasn't too strong because otherwise I know I wouldn't have liked it that much as I'm not a fan.

I hope you don't mind, but for some of these, I will be posting my picture as well as Howard's picture because c'mon now ... you can never have too many pictures of food! The scallops were so perfectly cooked that we totally could have eaten many more of these! We don't ever get scallops, so I don't know if my thinking that the price was too much is wrong. I know it's seafood, but maybe putting 4 on the plate would've made me feel better. Plus, we wouldn't have had to split that third one, haha. Anyway, the scallops that are served in Chinese restaurants are so chewy compared to these. I remember many situations where I felt as if the scallop was out to choke me! This was definitely NOT one of those times where a scallop had its eyes set out to cut off my air supply, so that already made me give it a thumbs up!

It was just so tender with the right bite, and the cream sauce worked very well! I cut my scallop up in really small bits so that I could dip it in the sauce. Very delicious! I have to admit though that I might not think about ordering it again just because of the amount of food that's given for that price. For $9, I kind of want to be full, haha. I also had other scallops during this vacation so stay tuned for that!

One of the things that you could have easily predicted based on how much we loved it the first night was our need for the Indian Style Bread Service. If you look on the AllEars menu now, you'll see that you can get 5 breads and 5 accompaniments for dinner $9.99. The original dish was 3 breads and 3 accompaniments for $8.99. What?! Just $1 more now to get so much more?!? The same 3 and 3 combo is still $8.99 on the lunch menu that you can still order during dinner, of course, but it doesn't make sense. The server we had during our Dec '12 trip mentioned that, but there was no doubt that we were going for the 5 and 5! But I'm jumping ahead of myself! On THIS trip, it was still 3 and 3, so we chose 2 Onion Kulcha and 1 papadum (comes with 2 pieces).

There was no need, in our opinion, to get the Naan this time. We were very interested in having things a bit different than what we can get at home. I like that there's variety in eating it because you have the soft texture of the onion kulcha and then you can also have the crunchy texture with the papadum.

We changed one of the accompaniments we ordered too.

We stuck with the mango chutney, which has a nice kick to it but is still refreshing because of the fruit in it. I hope that I don't also develop an allergy to mango too because mango salsa type stuff is the greatest! Like I said in the previous review, it looks like it's not going to be enough dip, but it is! And I'm a dipper/scooper! The flavors are so strong too so you don't even need too much per bite.

We also stuck with the garlic pickle. Don't be thrown off by popping a clove of garlic in your mouth! The garlic flavor is subdued and works perfectly with the bread!

The final accompaniment choice was the new one. There wasn't anything horrible about the cucumber raita we tried last time, but it just wasn't special. It really was just thin yogurt with cucumbers in it. We wanted to try a new one, so we chose the roasted red bell pepper hummus because during our last meal, this lady wanted ALL naan and ALL roasted red bell pepper hummus! The server did tell us that it's their most popular choice, so we wanted to try it for ourselves. It was DELICIOUS! This started my love for ALL HUMMUS. I used to smush chickpeas from a can and add a bit of Italian dressing on it when I was growing up and eat it as a snack. This is like, one of my favorite childhood snacks to a whole other level! It was so smooth and the addition of the roasted red pepper gave it an extra taste. Howard dislikes roasted red peppers so much that he'll go so far as to pick it out of sandwiches if it's in there so that I can eat it for him, but he actually really enjoyed this hummus too. Maybe it's the texture of actual roasted peppers that he doesn't like? Either way, I'd say don't let this throw you off if you're not a fan of actual roasted peppers. It's worth a taste!

Here's a glance at the inside of my onion kulcha. That's why we prefer this over the naan because the bread itself is already very flavorful and moist.

Our entree had a minor adjustment to it. We got the Slow Cooked in Gravy ($18.99) again with the Basmati Rice, but instead of choosing two different options, we got two orders of the Shrimp with Green Curry Sauce! THE GREATEST DISH ON THIS PLANET. The completely devastating thing (even more devastating than no more dole whip!) is that they REMOVED THIS FROM THE MENU! When I saw the latest menu change about a month ago right before our trip, I was super sad. Howard came home from work, and I was like, "I just heard the worst Disney news EVER." We are stil mourning the loss of that perfectly cooked shrimp with that tantalizing crunch along with that delicious sauce that had a nice kick without actually being spicy.

Random shot so you can see the view I had.

What a great husband I had who let me sit on that side of the table to view the animals! You can see that there was a giraffe in my line of sight.

It was time to EAT after all that photography, haha! As you can see, Rico brought another plate so that we didn't have to share plates. You can also see that the shrimp and rice were taken off the original plate. Apparently, you're supposed to dump some rice onto the rectangular plate and put the gravy things on top so that it can all be properly mixed! We didn't know that from our last meal, but Rico told us to do it that way. I know it doesn't seem like it'd make much of a difference, but it worked so well in the mixing because you don't have to worry about everything flying all over the place as you try to fit some rice in the shrimp dish. Plus, it was easier to split since we share the rice that's there.

It makes much more sense to use the big plate! Haha, we made much less of a mess and were able to eat every little bit without waste!

We were so satisfied with the meal we ordered. As you can see, we actually finished everything this time and didn't have any leftover bread service to bring back! It was just the perfect amount of food for the two of us.

(continued in next post)

(continued from previous post)

Rico returned to our table to clear the dishes away. He asked if we wanted any dessert, but we were so full that we didn't want to order anything extra. Plus, I don't think we ever order dessert! The last time we probably got something at a restaurant was because it came with our meal (some of those 3-course meals although any time we do those deals, we'll choose an appetizer over the dessert) or during our dating days at Chili's because they used to have a chocolate chip molten cake! So there really was a very slim chance that we'd actually get something from a Disney restaurant especially.

We had asked for the check, but Rico did not think it was time for us to leave just yet because he came by with a dessert for us in celebration of our Disneymoon! Right after he brought it out to us, a bunch of the CMs there began their drumming for special occasions and sang happy birthday to some people. They came around to us and just drummed away since they didn't have a honeymoon song, haha. It's funny because at the end of the video, you can see that I wipe my spoon (it's a habit I learned from my mom that I wipe my silverware before using it) and want to dig in, but we didn't take pictures of it yet!

VIDEO: Saana Drumming During Dessert

The dessert Rico brought to us was the Chocolate Cake, which is served with raspberry mint sorbet ($5.99). Before I said that we weren't hungry, but we made room for this because it was such a wonderfully sweet and generous gesture!

Okay, let me start off by saying this ... I know that you're not supposed to go into vacations at Disney expecting anything extra for the special occasions you're celebrating, but I have to admit that after reading a lot of Disneymoon TRs, I was looking forward to a bit of pixie dust even if it was just in the form of a special pre-recorded phone call from a character at one of the attractions. We had plenty of CMs wish us congratulations, but nothing else had happened until this point. In fact, this was the only time that we got a bit of extra pixie dust during the entire Disneymoon! It made it even MORE special because it was memorable enough as it was to have our favorite meal of the entire trip AND our favorite interaction with a CM! Rico really just created so much magic with that one dessert.

I was really excited that he went out of the way to make this our all-time favorite meal in Disney World. And the thing is, it didn't seem as if he was even trying that hard to make our meal extra special! I think his extremely friendly personality was just part of him and how he treated ALL of his tables! What a great guy!

Snap, snap, snap. Howard thinks it's funny that when I get really close-up shots, it sometimes looks as if I'm about to actually stick the camera IN the food. This one wasn't so bad, but in the future there are definitely shots like that!

Howard caught a bad shot of me, but he joked that I looked this way because I was thinking about the dreamy Rico so I decided to post it because I told him I was thinking about all of our dreamy food! And my dreamy husband, of course!

While we were waiting for our check and enjoying more of that pomengranate lemonade, I commented that I thought the room divider we were sitting next to would have been smoother than what it actually felt like. I know it's one of those things that isn't funny unless you were there, but Howard and I were cracking up so much because of the way I said it so randomly!

When Rico returned, I asked if I could take a picture with him, but he wanted Howard in the picture too! So he asked one of the other servers to take the picture for us! It's very rare that we ask to take pictures with CMs because as much as I may appreciate so many of them, I'm still rather introverted! But that's how much extra special Rico was to us. It's funny to say it, but this is one of my favorite pictures from our Disneymoon because of all the good memories that come to mind when I look at it.

Howard stopped by the bathroom before we left since we knew we were going to take a nice walk back, and he took a picture of the amazing sink! Why is Disney so awesome that they have to design the bathrooms so nicely too?!?

What a fabulous meal! Too bad we didn't hit Sanaa one more time before we left! Don't worry; we will definitely go back during our next trip (Dec '12)!

On THIS trip, it was still 3 and 3, so we chose 2 Onion Kulcha and 1 ****um (comes with 2 pieces).

Hey, hey now! Such profanity! ;) :lmao:

I love, love, love great dining experiences at WDW. Most of our meals are great, but there's probably only 3-4 in 14 trips that are truly memorable like that. Like all the stars aligned for the perfect meal. We ate at Sanaa for dinner in 2011, but we didn't care for it (it was very loud and our server wasn't very good). I would like to try it again at some point (if I can get my husband to go back).

I love cracking up over random things with my husband! We have so many moments that one of us will say something and it's just the way one of us said it that we find hilarious.

I love reading about your honeymoon (and all your trip reports, so don't even think about stopping after this one! ;) ). I wish I could relive mine over and over again.

HAHAHA, I don't even know what that happened when I used the word again a little bit farther down too! That's so funny! I guess DIS didn't share my love for all the choices in the bread service! I changed it now and it's fine!

I'm all for great dining experiences too! I guess as I get older, I appreciate those things more than just one ride in the parks. Not to say I don't love the parks, of course, but it's really about the experiences as a whole! We've had 3 fantastic meals there in 2012. This just happened to be the BEST one. I know that if our 3rd time eating there was actually our 1st, we would've liked the food, but it might not have been our all-time favorite just because we were next to a table of 4 women who weren't being crazy loud, but we were so close to them that I felt uncomfortable. The restaurant was packed with people, and I just didn't like our location. It wasn't as calm and as enjoyable. I guess timing really makes a difference!

Haha, I will have plenty more TRs to write after this one! I did a basic photo organization of my Dec trip pictures last night although I will definitely go backwards and do April '12 first just because I have those pictures. Dec is when Howard started shooting in raw, so I don't have them yet. I'm so happy you're here for the long haul!

Hi! I came across this TR Friday night, subbed and read the entire thing over the weekend.
Your wedding pictures are gorgeous! And you look beautiful.
I love love LOVE the fact that the reception was all with natural light :cloud9:

I have to get around to reading your other TR's.

Anyway, this most recent update requires me to ask...what type of lens is Howard using for this trip?

Glad you had such a great time. You should go to The Family Store in Bkln. The best hummus ever. Lots of great food there. I am positive you and Howard will love it.
http://www.familystorecooks.com/

Haha, you want to know the funniest thing? I know the family who owns this store! I've had a sampling of a few of their things at work, and it was DELICIOUS! We just haven't made it out there yet.

BTW. If you give Sam advanced notice, he will make anything you like. They have done several parties for us at home as well as Michael's work. We haven't been in a while but Barbara always stuffs Joe.

YAY! I'm so glad you're here! I love when new readers find the TR and say hello! I'm glad you enjoyed what I've written so far.

I know a few people who have had their wedding reception at the same place that I had mine, but they had nighttime receptions. It's funny that it's the exact same location, but it looks TOTALLY different. I'm just not a fan of the artificial lighting and the darkness of the place. The ONE good thing about darker receptions is that it's easier for me to feel comfortable dancing, haha. Oh, and the other nice thing about the ones in the evening were that they put clumps of different sized candles in the old fireplaces. I think that was pretty.

Hope you enjoy my older TRs too! The "Delicious Indeed" one is a totally different group with my 2 cousins and one of our friends. It was probably my favorite TR to write just because the trip itself was so much fun! We're planning another trip with my 2 cousins for next February since I'm getting them 4-day park tickets as their gift for being in my bridal party.

For this trip, he only had one lens. I just texted him to ask him what it was, and he replied back with this: "It was the ultra wide. It's called Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 at-x116 pro dx." I have NO clue what that means, but maybe it'll be helpful to you! Haha. During our Christmas trip last year, he had 2 lenses that he switched out, and during our trip just two weeks ago, he also borrowed a zoom from one of our church friends.

BTW. If you give Sam advanced notice, he will make anything you like. They have done several parties for us at home as well as Michael's work. We haven't been in a while but Barbara always stuffs Joe.

I love Barbara! I see her once in a while throughout the year. I'm examining the menu right now and wanting to go there during the summer. What are some of your other favorites?

This is the only place that Joe will eat hummus from. Michael LOVES the ribs. Anything with shrimp is amazing. No words for the mac n' cheese. Garlic lemon Chicken is great. They also carry stuff not on the menu. You can not go wrong and can try everything first to make sure you like it.

Having just been at Kidani, your AKL pictures are easy to jump into. :thumbsup2 We have not tried Sanaa yet. That will probably wait until the girls are quite a bit older and more adventurous in their eating.

Hurray for Rico and other wonderful castmembers like him! :cheer2:

Aww, you can tell just how happy you are in these pictures! I'm so glad Rico was able to create such a special experience for you guys on your honeymoon!

Wow your Saana meal did look fabulous!!! And your shrimp in green curry sauce does look much better than mine.

AWW Rico looks soo happy! How nice that he brought you out a piece of cake. I would have expected more pixie dust especially for it being your honeymoon!!! Maybe too many people just abuse it now?

It's amazing the difference a good (or bad!) waiter/waitress can make in a meal. Everything looks delicious!

Glad you got a little sprinkle of pixie dust with your dessert. :wizard:

I am absolutely loving your honeymoon trip report! Fabulous pictures, great writing!

Oh man, it sounds super delicious! I already told Howard about it so that we remember to try to make it out there this summer.

We saw a few families there with young kids, and I did stop and wonder what they were eating. But two of the kids we saw also fell asleep at the table too on the same night, so the parents had a relaxing, adventurous dinner as their kids slept! I hope I have my own kiddies who are adventurous eaters even if it takes a few years to get to that point.

We will definitely remember Rico for the rest of our lives! We looked for him last December but didn't see him.

Aww, you can tell just how happy you are in these pictures! I'm so glad Rico was able to create such a special experience for you guys on your honeymoon!

It was seriously the one night that we truly felt like we were on our honeymoon and not just a vacation!

I still can't believe that your version of it was so different! You'd think they'd have quality assurance or something at Disney.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't have expected pixie dust in terms of free stuff, but I had read about those situations where a CM is like, "Oh, I have a phone call for you" and it's Mickey or something on the phone! I don't know if they specifically have that for honeymoons or what celebrations they have exactly, but that would've been fun too.

It's amazing the difference a good (or bad!) waiter/waitress can make in a meal. Everything looks delicious!

Glad you got a little sprinkle of pixie dust with your dessert. :wizard:

Even without that extra sprinkle of pixie dust, we would've loved the meal just because of how Rico was with us! That dessert though was the huge cherry on top!

I am absolutely loving your honeymoon trip report! Fabulous pictures, great writing!

Thank you! I'm so glad you're here and enjoying it!

Joining in and loving your disneymoon report! You two are sooooo cute (sorry, I don't mean to sound condescending!).
