Mr. and Mrs. Weak Sauce Go the Distance (a completed Disneymoon TR!)

Just wanted to chime in to also endorse Monsters U ... we were lucky that a diver-in kinda near us (a bit north of NYC) had it playing and the kids were free so only had to pay for my wife and I and we could bring in our own popcorn to make it much more economical :thumbsup2

Ooo, I would definitely go if we had a drive-in! I'm so intrigued by them and would love to be in the comfort of my own car and bring any and all food with me!

My Last Dole Whip Float EVER!

Writing about this is going to be extremely sad for me. Why? Because our Disneymoon was May 2012, and then for some STRANGE reason during the summer of 2012, I developed an allergy to pineapple! What?! Is that even possible?!? Apparently, it is. It's a common thing for people to develop food allergies later in life according to the doctors and nurses I've seen since for other issues.

During the pineapple season, Howard and I would occasionally buy a fresh pineapple to have at home, and suddenly there was one day where I started feeling a strange tingling on the roof of my mouth. We figured that the fruit was just too ripe. I sometimes get hives with fruit that's TOO ripe like with cantaloupe. I also get an itchy throat with avocados that are TOO ripe as well. I figured that was just the case with this pineapple. We bought it again and the SAME THING HAPPENED, and we purposely cut into it a little earlier too! And then you know what was even worse? Howard was going to finish the rest of that pineapple since I said I'd stay away from it until the next one, but I was just sitting next to him while he was eating it and BREATHING in the pineapple scent, and my throat started to feel as if it was closing up! It didn't get too serious since going to the hospital didn't cross my mind, but I kept drinking water over and over to try to get that feeling out of my throat. It was a sad, sad day when that occurred because pineapple is (or I should WAS) one of my favorite kinds of fruit!!!

Now looking back at these pictures with the float, I'm extremely saddened by the fact that I will not be able to have it ever again! I would only do so if I went to an allergist and got the tests to know for sure, but I just won't risk it. If I had only known then that it'd be the last time I could have it, we would've gone back and had MANY more! Sad. Be sad on account of me!

Thanks.

Anyway, we approached Aloha Isle for one of my favorite snacks in all of Disney. What I think is interesting about this place is that some people don't realize there are lines on both sides of this establishment because there are two separate windows. As you can see, there's a huge line on the other side of the building, but we walked right up to an empty window. That's fine by us! During this past trip last week, the line on this side was a little bit shorter as well and also in shade, so I called my mom to tell her to move to this side because they would have melted in that line (we were melting already in the shade!).

A Pineapple Float was in our sights for $4.49! We have to get the pineapple soft serve with the pineapple juice at the bottom! It's the perfectly refreshing treat for people who really like pineapple. I know many people do the swirl and mix the pineapple with vanilla to cut down on the citrus, but that's not something that would make sense for me because I love getting punched in the mouth with ALL pineapple! When the soft serve begins to melt a little into the juice, it's so delicious! I do, however, miss the little seating area that used to be there. It was a great spot to enjoy the treat out of the sunlight with a great view for people watching.

Let me just say this about the treat. The soft serve is one that I REALLY enjoyed because it's actually lactose free, so that means both Howard and I could have it without any issues (though I'm starting to think I'm not as severely lactose intolerant anymore, but I'll leave that for another day ...). I did see that recently they also made it dairy free, but that's something that you'd have to check out if you have an allergy to casein.

I bid you adieu, my pineapple-y goodness. I hope that one day we will meet again!

After our snack, we began walking out of the park to head back to the resort. We went through all the stores on Main Street so we could get some AC but also to take a look at some of the things we could potentially buy! Not that we're too big on buying souvenirs since going on vacation is already costly, of course! My sunglasses, however, were wanting to die on me a bit because the left side screw kept wanting to dislodge itself, making it all wonky. Just before our most recent vacation, Howard tried fixing it and then he told me to put clear nail polish over it. The screw won't fall out now, but I sometimes have to line everything up correctly. He said the ridges on the screw have been smoothed a bit too much so that's why it's not staying in place. It was already happening during our Disneymoon, so I started looking at the sunglasses they had there.

I like BIGGER sunglasses not because they look good on me or anything but because I want it to cover more of my eyes. I hate wearing sunglasses that only block out the sun from the front! What about the sides?!? That's why I love mine so much! I got them from JCPenney's, and they've really lasted a long time although I do only use it on vacation. I have issues driving with sunglasses on. Plus, it's so difficult to find good glasses because of my huge head and the fact that my ears are crooked (since birth~) so not all of them rest properly or can be worn without some sort of ear pain. I am still refusing to give up on the ones I have now though if I can help it. The two I tried on didn't fit my face shape anyway.

Since we were in the Emporium, Howard took the time to snap some photos of his favorite - LIGHT FIXTURES!

He's all about taking pictures of the stuff around him, but I like pictures with people in them. That's why taking a picture of these squished Mickey and Minnie plushies wouldn't be enough. I think it's even better when you stand next to 'em and make a squished face!

Love how the trolley is in the car barn.

Look at those menacing clouds as we walked to the bus stop!

What was lovely was that the AKL bus stop was first in that row. We really liked that we didn't have to walk too far down. We really missed it last December when we had to go to Pop all the way at the end!

Yes, all the way down there.

It actually took a good amount of time for a bus to come. There were a lot of people at the bus stop already, so that was one "good" thing because we knew we didn't just miss one. They were feeling very impatient though because they had waited for a while, so for us, it really wasn't THAT long for us. It did also start raining a bit while we were there, so we were just happy to be under the covering! A bit of relaxation back at the resort was much needed!

Sorry to hear about the pineapple allergy. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I love pineapples and Dole Whip floats. I'm glad you figured it out before anything serious happened.

Oh you poor thing! No more Dole Whips! That is terrible!

I feel your pain on Sunglasses. It took me a good 2 years to find the pair I have now and I'm always afraid that I'm going to break them and have to start looking again. My problem is that my head is a little wide so that most women's aren't wide enough, and the earpeices are stretched and hurt my face when I am wearing them! (I swear I don't have a SUPER crazy wide head either! I don't look like a bobblehead or anything!) The other problem is that my cheeks will push up a lot of sunglasses when I smile, and that just bugs me!

I love walking through the stores. I always want to buy everything, but almost never buy anything! It's like a disease!

Hey Rachel!! So I'm so bummed we didn't get to meet up at Hollywood Studios. :worried: We had to check out of the AKL that morning, and then we had to hit the road before the Friday traffic got too bad, so we didn't have much time in the park. :( Fingers crossed our trips will overlap someday again though!!

Loving the updates - that is terrible news about the pineapple allergy and no more dole whips though. At least there are plenty of other tasty treats at WDW, but STILL. :sad2:

It's hilarious although I wish The Lonely Island didn't have to use such foul language. I'd suggest watching it on Hulu if you haven't seen it before. The YouTube version isn't censored, and personally, it really bothers me. Why is it necessary? Even when it IS censored and there are all the beeps, it bugs me. That might just be me ...

I COMPLETELY agree. I don't even like the beeps either - and sometimes it seems like they just throw them in there for the heck of it. I don't get it. :confused3

Oh no!! Sorry about the pineapple allergy. By some miracle I hope it will pass.

The picture of your Dole Whip float is perfection. I'm so glad you were able to enjoy then! That section of Adventureland is so cheerful. Or maybe it's just that there are Dole Whips there.:hyper: So wait, you don't mean the little gazebo is gone?:headache: It was the perfect little spot to enjoy a Dole Whip.:lovestruc

Well, time for you to pick another amazing treat!:yay:

As for the bus stops, we call it resort conditioning therapy.:lmao: For the All Star Movies buses we had to wait and wait and wait...while buses for the Deluxe resorts kept whizzing by. But we rarely waited more than 10 mins. for the Beach Club buses. Who knows?:confused3

I also became allergic to different things when I reached my mid-20's. I LOVE peaches and plums, but I can't eat them anymore. They make my mouth itch. That also goes for any fresh fruit with a pit--nectarines, apricots, cherries. I've read that it is a pollen allergy. If the fruit is cooked or processed in any way, i.e. baked in a pie, frozen, canned, etc., I can eat it. Weird, huh?

Great update and welcome back! :goodvibes

I totally get the red-headed wench observation. I think, if I was a guy, I would be too worried about my red-headed wench running the town with other pirates or another pirate killing me for her. Of course, I'm not a guy and they are visual creatures! I love the Oldies song that goes "If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife. So from my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you". Haha! I sing it to my husband all the time :). I especially like to say the part in the song where the guys are talking and one says to the other, "Man, I saw your wife the other day and she is UGLY!". The other guy says, "Yeah, but she sure can cook," to which the first guy replies, "I know that's right!". I say these lines a lot when I'm cooking. I crack myself up. Wow, talk about digressing...

I despised chemistry. Ugh. We had marine biology, which was a lot of fun, but I never wanted to dissect anything :(. I wish I could go back and do high school all over again without the concern of boys or trying to fit in. I'm sure I would've liked (and focused more on) a lot more of my classes.

I hate cursing. I buy all clean versions of songs on iTunes. I think you can get your point across in movies and TV without saying the F-word a million times. The English language has millions of words. Get creative.

That stinks about the pineapple allergy! :( I'm 31 and recently have developed a terrible reaction to shrimp and crab (I can do other seafood/shellfish, though). It's weird because I'm hesitant to eat a lot of new things or things I haven't eaten in awhile because I don't want to feel like that again (especially on vacation!).

The line to POTC freaks me out now because of the first Kingdom Keepers. Haha! I also was obsessed with the Aladdin game on Sega Genesis growing up and one of the levels had the music that is played throughout the line area in POTC so it gives me fond memories of playing that game. So random.

The Jack Sparrow show looks so fun! We'll have to check it out when we go in September (I say that about a lot of things and then end up running out of time to fit everything in! :().

I had to buy sunglasses in Epcot during our 2011 trip because I left my sunglasses back in the motorhome at Ft. Wilderness (which, if you've never stayed at the campground, is practically like traveling all the way home to get your sunglasses). I got so many compliments on them and I barely liked them (I just needed something so the sun wouldn't burn my retinas).

I despise the WDW bus system at certain resorts (especially POR). We always had good luck when we stayed at AKV Kidani. The absolute best was when we stayed at OKW. We never had to wait or stand on a bus (or have anyone else standing on the bus for that matter!). We're staying at BLT in September, which I hope greatly reduces our need for the bus system (though, I'll probably be complaining about that walk from MK when I'm hot and tired. Haha!).

Can't wait to read more! :yay:popcorn::

I feel your pain. For years I have considered myself allergic to cantaloupe. Every time I would it it, I would get a scratchy throat. And I LOVE cantaloupe!! It is the tastiest of all melons! :(

I have had the same problem with my sunglasses. I have put a little superglue on the screw before screwing it back in. It helps for a while.

Sorry to hear about the pineapple allergy. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I love pineapples and Dole Whip floats. I'm glad you figured it out before anything serious happened.

It's so devastating because it really was my favorite fruit! Once I made chicken with one of those Lawry's marinades. I felt funny and didn't realize it until after that I have to check the label for pineapple stuff too!

Oh you poor thing! No more Dole Whips! That is terrible!

I feel your pain on Sunglasses. It took me a good 2 years to find the pair I have now and I'm always afraid that I'm going to break them and have to start looking again. Isn't it so horrible? I now read people's TRs about Dole Whips with sadness!

Yes! I hate the movement of sunglasses with the cheeks too. I should probably start looking for new ones whenever I pass by because it'll probably be easier to find one casually instead of when my current ones break and I'm in desperate need of a new one! I have a wide face too, and sometimes it's like the earpieces are stretched so that the glasses just squeeze me instead of actually resting on my ears and nose!

That's why I used to take TONS of pictures in the stores so that I could feel as if I kind of bought the stuff, haha. Most of the time, I liked things that weren't necessarily useful. Now that I'm married and have my own place, it's easier to walk away from things because we don't have room! That's why we spent a good chunk on kitchen things because we knew that it'd be fun to use Disney things on a daily basis! I love our salt and pepper grinders and our trivets!

When I watch your vlogs, I'm still bummed that we didn't get a chance to meet up too! I hope one day we will be there at the same time again.

When my mom and brother got the Dole Whip, Howard and I knew we wanted a cold treat too. Since we can't have lactose either, a Mickey bar or ice cream treat just isn't possible. I remember coming across some frozen drinks when I was searching on AllEars. It worked out perfectly that we were in Tomorrowland because I didn't know that the Lunching Pad would be our destination for their frozen carbonated drinks! We tried the flavor of the month, which was raspberry lemonade. It was AWESOME. I mean, we were kind of searching for a frozen lemonade, but the whole carbonated aspect of it made it so much better. Not quite a Dole Whip, but definitely a delicious alternative!

Yay! What you said about the cursing and all that made me happy. When I was writing it, I was wondering if anyone else would also be bothered by beeps too because I know there are many DISers who can sometimes use language that I don't use on other social forums. I wasn't sure if it was just my mom's super conservative ways that were ingrained in me or what, but I like finding other people around my age with similar views. I mean, some of my students have such horrible language too, but it's interesting because for the most part, they watch what they say in school. That means they're in complete control of what they say and it's totally not necessary for them to use words like that!

Oh no!! Sorry about the pineapple allergy. By some miracle I hope it will pass.

I hope so too! I hope that as randomly as it came, it will also randomly leave! I don't know how I'd find out about it though, haha, without actually trying pineapple again.

I think the gazebo is still there. If you're looking directly at the store, the area to the left was still there when some time last year. It was the space on the right that had its tables removed because it is not a character meet and greet. I think they could still have the tables and seats there without it interfering with the meet and greet line. That's the side that would've been out of the sun, and it would've been so inviting!

In the above reply, I wrote that I did find another treat! Not completely the same, but it still hit the spot when my husband and I were unbelievably hot and in need of a cold treat.

After dealing with trying to meet up with my dad and seeing where he'd pick us up during our April '12 trip and our trip last week, it makes me miss the buses! At least Howard and I were able to do things on our own! Haha, there are always benefits to both.

I also became allergic to different things when I reached my mid-20's. I LOVE peaches and plums, but I can't eat them anymore. They make my mouth itch. Oh wow, so it really IS common for these allergies to develop! I mean, not that I want other people to be allergic to things too, but it's kind of comforting knowing that I'm not the only one "suffering," haha. I use quotation marks because I know there are things that are way worse than our food alleriges, but it's just so bad when it's something we used to enjoy SO much!

Great update and welcome back! :goodvibes

Thanks! I have some other updates ready to post (at least 2 more at this point) so I can hopefully keep this TR going.

Haha, I totally loved your digression about the "never make a pretty woman your wife" thing! I completely agree with that! I mean, there are times I really feel so frumpy and dumpy, but Howard says that I'm always beautiful to him, which makes me feel good! My mom would say that sometimes the people who were not necessarily the best looking according to worldly standards were sometimes the nicest people you'd come across. Again, that's also a generalization, but for the most part, I find that that's true too! I unfortunately see it in my school too amongst my colleagues. I'm not one of the prettier, put-together girls who works there, but I think I'm one of the best team players who is willing to help anywhere.

Oo, marine biology sounds interesting! I actually enjoyed the dissections. I wasn't really weirded out by the earthworm, frog, and then fetal pig. After a while, I also kind of got used to the formaldehyde smell too. That's when I went through a phase of actually considering medical school type stuff because I loved bio so much! But yeah, chemistry was just not it for me. Haha, I imagine how much better students many of us would be if we went to high school now instead of then! But at the same time, there's no way that I could go back to doing all that homework and projects now because my mind is just not in it!

EXACTY! So many words out there, and you have to use curse words over and over again? It's very easy to respect someone who knows how to insult you with good words, haha. That hurts more than a random curse word!

Oh no to your food allergies too! I am slightly allergic to shellfish. If it's still in the shell or maybe if it's not cleaned properly, I get hives. It's not so bad that I don't eat it at all though. That's why the pineapple allergy is so difficult because it's the first time I had throat issues. Hives are not TOO bad because you always just pop a Benadryl, but feeling as if my throat's about to close up is just NOT fun at all.

Haha, yeah, Kingdom Keepers really changes a lot of how you view the parks! The POTC part doesn't bother me as much for some reason. It's the IASW part that bothers me more! Haha.

Maybe the Jack Sparrow thing will be on as you're going to POTC just so that you can catch a bit of the show! I think the character of Jack and his comments can really make the show.

I wish sunglasses didn't cost so much too. I don't buy expensive ones, but considering I only use them on vacation and not every day, I really don't want to drop a good $20-30 when I don't wear them often! Looking back on it, of course, the $25 I spent on my current ones really lasted a long time since I've used them on a bunch of trips already!

Haha, yeah, I wonder what it'd be like to do that walk AFTER a day at the parks! I guess you could always catch the monorail too, right?

I feel your pain. For years I have considered myself allergic to cantaloupe. Every time I would it it, I would get a scratchy throat. And I LOVE cantaloupe!! It is the tastiest of all melons! :(

I have had the same problem with my sunglasses. I have put a little superglue on the screw before screwing it back in. It helps for a while.

Ugh, scratchy throat things are the worst! I'm always afraid it's going to cut off my breathing. I think I worry about it now because at school, we learned all about a lot of the food allergies that our kids have and we had to be trained in how to use an epi pen in case of emergencies. It made me nervous!

I hope the clear nail polish thing keeps my glasses going for at least a few more trips! Haha, I'll buy a new pair when I have a baby so that I don't have to worry about it falling apart.

Great update! :)

Thanks! Stay tuned for more! I've got 2 waiting to be posted already.

Love is ...

For those of you who are friends with me on Facebook, you might notice that every once in a while, I'll have a status that says "Love is ..." and fill in the blank based on something wonderful that my husband has done for me. The most recent one was "Love is ... saving your last strawberry for your wife" because as we drove home from Florida and picked up dinner from Cracker Barrel, Howard left his last strawberry for me to have after I finished my dinner! It's wonderful to be told that someone loves you, but it's even more when someone shows that love in action!

Well, I just wanted to write that out so that you would understand why this update is titled "Love is ..." because this is the perfect statement to explain why I won't have that much to say about these pictures. Love is ... doing the laundry so that your wife can take a nap in the room! Yup, that is my husband. He lugged all our clothes to the AKL laundry room (after asking CMs for help in terms of tracking it down) so that we would have clean clothes for the rest of our honeymoon! I was EXHAUSTED, so I just fell asleep on the couch, and Howard didn't mind at all! He actually told me to nap because he knew I needed the rest. How wonderful is he!!!

Since he had some time to kill, he brought his camera with him so that he could tour the resort and check out some animals as well. These were his photos from his alone time as I was snoozing away.

I'm sure you've seen photos of the AKL lobby before, but no picture can capture it's beauty! I was never impressed with the place. When we rented the points to stay here from our DIS friend Joanna, the reason why we chose AKL was because of the cheapest of the DVC options. Thank goodness for that because we would have missed out on a wonderful stay!

I can't imagine our Disneymoon being anywhere else because this resort was quiet since it didn't have the hustle and bustle of the monorail resorts that we had initially thought would've been great to experience!

I love catwalks especially when they're sturdy like this, haha. It helps provide magnificent views! Take a look!

The outdoor seating areas looked amazing too and so incredibly peaceful. Rocking chairs are one of the most inviting kind of chairs.

Howard also went down some random hallways to see if he could get some views of the animals.

He really ended up going down the most random hallways! It must've been confusing because it looks the same to me as I see the photos! It was a TON of walking too. I'm so glad that we got our top request of being near the transportation

Howard really loved all the light fixtures in AKL too. They really are something spectacular! It's just amazing to think that there are Imagineers sitting around thinking about the millions of different lights that they're going to put in th eresorts and in the parks.

Howard popped out of one of the stairwells and ended up outdoors to watch some animals too.

He stayed there for a while because there were some CMs taking care of them.

After a long tour around the resort, he decided to come back and wake up his wife from her nap! What a lovely husband I have, right?

He got the laundry and then there was a bit of time to get ready before we moved on to our dinner destination!

What a sweet Husband to let you sleep!

The AKL is just stunning! I am always in awe of how beautiful it is. It has so many lovely details like the light fixtures that I am always finding something new!

The fourth Pirates movie was actually good, in my opinion! But yeah, not all the characters were in it. I'll just say this: the mermaids? TERRIFYING.

Bad language and bleeps bother me too. There are so many other words you can use... it's pointless.

I'm sorry about your pineapple allergy! I actually can't stand pineapple (even though I like pineapple flavored things... go figure haha) so I wish I could give you my ability to eat it!

Love Howard's AKL photos! That's one of my top 3 dream resorts. It's just amazing.

I agree with you about the Lonely Island! I think that they're hilarious, but the cursing actually takes away from it IMHO. That said, I do curse occaisionally (if I lifting weights at Crossfit, I curse a lot!) but when it comes to music and comedy, I don't find that it adds anything to it at all.

Sorry about your new-found allergy. Pineapple is a fruit that I absolutely love and I'm looking forward to finally getting a Dole whip on our upcoming trip. I am trying to figure out some other potential allegies as I tend to get really terrible hives, but only on my legs and I can't figure out what's triggering them. Allergic reactions are NO FUN!:headache:

So sorry for the pineapple allergy. That really stinks. FYI, you don't have to have a scratch test ,they can do blood work to test. I LOVE Howard's pictures of AKL. It is one of our favorites because it is so relaxing.

Oh no, that is a bummer about not being able to have any more Dole Whip floats! So sad. I am with you on bigger sunglasses-I like ones that sort of wrap around my eyes. They keep the sun out a lot better!

Those are awesome pictures of AKL! I think once I start round two of my DVC resort stays that'll be one of the first ones!

Great updates! So sorry about your pineapple allergy! At least you got to have one last Dole Whip float before you found out. I have never had the Float before, I usually get the swirl. They do have Orange ones, maybe that could be a substitute for you.

Beautiful AKL pics! That was awesome of him to do the Laundry while you napped.

Oh no, what a bummer about your pineapple allergy!!! That is so weird and random how things you have been eating your whole life can suddenly cause you to have an allergic reaction. The human body can be so weird sometimes! At least you got to have one more Dole Whip. :(

How sweet that Howard volunteered to do some laundry so you could rest. :thumbsup2 What a great husband he is! AKL seems like a good place to wander around and get "lost" while waiting on laundry too. :goodvibes
