Mr. and Mrs. Weak Sauce Go the Distance (a completed Disneymoon TR!)

Sorry I have not been commenting as much, but I'm trying to be better about that! I have been keeping up with reading all the updates though. :goodvibes

Anyway, I am totally with you on the boat to DHS thing...Never done it, and I still can't place where the boat would dock! We might have to try that out this trip so I can see. :thumbsup2 We don't usually take advantage of any of the boat transportation except for the occasional ferry ride to MK from the TTC when the monorail is down or busy. But Paxton really enjoys boats, so we may have to incorporate them more into our trip.

Another thing to work into our next trip that we have been skipping recently...LMA! DH and I actually just mentioned this to each other a few days ago. Paxton would love the car stunts, and especially now that his idol Lightning McQueen makes an appearance, I think he will just go nuts! He has the whole "I am speed" spiel from the beginning of the first movie totally memorized. :rotfl2:

Great updates, Rachel!!

Another fun update - I really enjoy DHS too! and thanks for the picture of Howards case - that is awesome! I can't seem to find any of the really great cases for my phone now as it's an iPhone 3GS and basically ancient by phone and phone accessory standards. I'm probably due for an upgrade in the fall so then I'll be able to find something more fun than what I have now :)

and I think your rings are beautiful and I love how excited you are. I have a feeling that if that's meant for me someday, I'll have a very similar reaction! I don't really care for the extra large diamonds, I am always drawn to the daintier rings. There's a sense of grace about them, that they don't need to shout 'look at me!' Guess that's why there are SO many choices - something for everyone!

Oh, you have a 3GS? At the Disney outlet they had a bunch of cases for that for super cheap because not many have that anymore! I would totally get a Disney iPhone case, but I want it to have the rubber grip and not the smooth plastic because I know I'd totally drop it all the time if it was slippery. I also am torn because I want a case that has my blog logo on it that my husband designed. I think that'll win out.

Exactly! I don't need anyone else to be looking at it because it's for me and not for anyone else. I had some interesting reactions when people saw my ring though. I had one student comment, "Awww ... it's so small!" and then when someone else laughed, she was like, "No, it's cute!" Haha. But I guess most girls value the same thing that their moms value because it would make sense for that student and it makes sense for me!

Great updates!

I have never taken the boat to DHS! It looks like such a lovely ride!

We never really did any Character Meet and Greets either (except for maybe one quick photo with Mickey) until our munchkin came along. Now with kids, even though it is still completely awkward, it is worth it for the smile on his face!

Wait! I thought the guys in the white are Storm Troopers?!?! (Though I have never seen the movies, so I could be completely wrong!).

We have seen Lights! Motors! Action! once and really enjoyed it but didn't necessarily think it was worth taking time out for every trip. I have been trying to decide if we should make it a point to see it on our next trip though. After our trip in Sept/Oct we likely won't be back for 2-3 years, and with all the rumors for changes to DHS, I'm concerned it will be our last chance to see it!

It definitely is a very relaxing one way to park hop. The buses can sometimes remind me of commuting in NYC, and though we also have the ferry, this is nothing like it!

I'll give in and do character meet and greets with the kiddos if they want it, haha. But it'll definitely be easier because they would be the excited ones interacting and I'd just stand behind the camera, haha.

Apparently there's a difference between Stormtroopers and the Clone Troopers, haha. That's what they were. I had called them Stormtroopers at one point, and Howard corrected me so that's why I knew it wasn't them. They have different helmets. I'm going to guess that the clone troopers are in episodes 1-3?

I really hope they don't get rid of the show! I can only imagine how much it costs to run each show though especially since there are people who don't enjoy it or don't see it every trip like you guys. I want to go with our friends who haven't seen it before because I like seeing how newbies react.

Sorry I have not been commenting as much, but I'm trying to be better about that! I have been keeping up with reading all the updates though. :goodvibes

Great updates, Rachel!!

That's okay! I know I fall behind on so many trip reports too so when I finally read, writing down comments takes a while so sometimes I just stay updated when I'm drying my hair. It doesn't really leave me with the opportunity to type at the same time.

Haha, so we weren't the only ones that were confused about where the boat docks! I guess it just never hit me that I could look around when entering instead of just examining the crowds and trying to figure out which bag check would be the fastest!

Oh absolutely! I think LMA is the perfect show for boys as long as they're not startled by the gun sounds and such. My mom is the one who gets sooo startled by that!

Yay update!

I think your wedding ring and engagement rings are gorgeous! Perfect size! I love LMA too but I don't have to see it every trip. That stadium is so darn hot! And the seats are so uncomfortable because they don't have a back. That is the only negative.

You did not know there was water at Hollywood Studios??? :faint:
You really must have been walking with a mission to get inside on those other times before!

The movie in France is good. The music is soothing, though, so if you are Disney-tired, the combination of the dark, the coolness, and the music can put you to sleep quickly!

I am like you when it comes to Star Wars characters. I call them as I see them - 'the green fella with gross thingies as his hair' sounds just like how I would tell someone about a SW character. ::yes:: I would think the big hairy guy would be burning up in that costume. Hopefully it has some kind of cooling system in it.

Good to see you guys treating yourselves. I went a long time raising three kids alone on pocket change, and we were rarely able to do anything fun that cost any money. I am blessed to know the joy of being able to spend a little on them now, and that makes me much happier! All work and no treating yourself is not good for your mental health. ;)

I love those Disney food pins - I will definitely have to keep an eye out for them next time I'm at Disney!! I'm like you with souvenirs...I don't get too many, and I always have to plan for the ones I get beforehand. :thumbsup2 Love the Star Wars case!

Thank you! I too agree that they're just the perfect size for me.

Yeah, those stadium seats can be pretty unbearable when you go early to grab good seats and have to wait! I really had an issue this past June waiting in that heat, but there was no other choice. Haha, we just love it that much!

Haha, that really must have been it! We just had absolutely no reason to turn our heads to the right! I was already analyzing which line to stand in for bag check.

I always forget which pavilion has the shows that requires you to stand and which ones allow you to sit. We seriously have to go back in cooler weather so that we can make it to World Showcase in the first place!

I guess I should eventually watch the movies myself since my DH is such a fan! I wonder if we'll ever make it back there for SWW.

That's very true! I was very upset with my teaching job in the first few years because I was getting paid much and just saved it all. My mom told me that I have to spend it once in a while on something I REALLY want to make it worthwhile, so that's why I bought craft things. Then when I ended up tutoring extra hours after school many times a week, I had to equate each tutoring session with something that we were saving for in Disney like a meal we had planned or a snack we had planned.

I love those Disney food pins - I will definitely have to keep an eye out for them next time I'm at Disney!! I'm like you with souvenirs...I don't get too many, and I always have to plan for the ones I get beforehand. :thumbsup2 Love the Star Wars case!

I can't imagine having the "freedom" to just buy whatever souvenir we wanted! Even if we had the money for it, I just don't think it's very wise anyway. I think it makes the few things we do get more special! But that's why it's so much fun to take pictures of everything in the shops so that we can still see them afterwards!

Those food pins are so cute! When they made the food magnets, I thought about it, but I just didn't like how they looked.

Step Into the Movies

The Great Movie Ride is one of those rides that won't ever be on my favorites list, but for whatever reason, it's always a must do. If I can't ride it during a trip, I'd feel incomplete. There are scenes that I don't particularly like, but I actually don't care so much about the movies that are in it because what I truly enjoy is the ride vehicle! It's the best when I get to sit on the end of a row or it was even better when we sat at the back of the ride vehicle during another trip! I am just amazed that there is no visible track or guide rails, and as I say many times, RIDE VEHICLES and RIDE TRACK! So of course this would be extremely fascinating for me!

Howard took a picture of me in front of the theater. Because of the angle, I look extra tall and thin, haha, but that is definitely the camera. I'm actually only 5'3''!

We didn't spend time looking at the handprints and autographs this time, but Howard did snap a favorite!

There are some parts of DHS that really remind me of the few memories of visting MGM as a little girl. This room is one of them because of the times we just waited for so long here as it was packed with people weaving back and forth in those rows. I remember one time where the line was so long that we were wrapped around the building outside! Nowadays, we'd never wait that long since the late afternoon into the night usually has NO people at all.

I thought that as I got older, I'd appreciate more of the movie clips, but I'm still not interested. I like the movie clips at the end of the ride though!

Waiting and crossing our fingers that we might get the cowboy scene!

We didn't specifically ask if we could get the cowboy scene, and we should have! We did that during our December trip so that we could finally see it!

RIDE VEHICLE!

Is there a Hidden Mickey or something interesting in this mural? I vaguely remember reading something like that in the past few months.

Soon it was time to take a ride through the movies!

This is one of my favorite "rooms" to look over the edge of the ride vehicle and examine the "track" just because there's nothing else to see, and I don't have to feel "exposed" by sticking my head over when there are gangsters or aliens around, haha.

On our last trip, I took a look to see how Mary is attached, and there's a quick moment where you can see the bar or whatever it is connecting her back to the chimney. Her bag covers it for the most part. I like seeing stuff like that to know just how well imagineers hide everything so that you don't even notice it on a regular look.

Howard has to deal with me saying, "Take a picture of that!" and I really like how you can see the ride vehicle and just NOTHING in front of it. That's why they can have all of those great Tables in Wonderland dinners in this ride.

Part of me always wonders why the CMs here can't improvise a bit the same way they do in Jungle Cruise, but I guess it wouldn't make sense because in the movies, the lines are always the same!

Have you ever noticed the license plate here? The "021 429" is the date of the Valentine's Day Massacre. I had to Google that just now to see what it actually was, but I knew the significance of the license plate because of Disney trivia books. See, Disney makes you learn! Basically, gunmen dressed as policement killed members of the Moran gang and due to that, Al Capone gained more power. Many assumed that Capone was behind it, but he had an alibi and was never charged with it.

I really love looking for all the details that are included in each scene.

We saw THIS Hidden Mickey! See at the top of the building? There's a silhouette of Mickey! I wonder what he thinks about all the shooting going on outside!

It's time to move on to the next scene except for the fact that there's a red light!

Howdy.

Each trip, I try to read the notices that are posted here.

You gotta love how the signs across the shooting move when they're hit with bullets.

Now moving on to the scene that used to scare me as a kid! The first few times I rode this after the LONG break from DHS, I was still a little nervous and closed my eyes a tiny bit.

They give you fair warning though with the smoke and lights.

The alien from the ceiling isn't as scary as Sigourney Weaver's plasticky face to the left, haha. And I don't remember which trip it was, but I was completely frightened by the alien that pops out on the right side! I didn't know that there was one there, and it threw me off.

Moving on to Indiana Jones! These movies remind me so much of my childhood because my dad used to watch them and then my older brother did all the time as well. I guess I grew up with a TON of Indy! I ended up learning some history as well just from watching the movies.

My favorite part about this is that on the left side of the room right after the second big statue and before you move into the next room you can see a Hidden Mickey AND A Hidden Donald! There's a picture of the two of them as if it's part of the hieroglyphics It's in the piece that's above the one where my finger is pointing. I can see it when I zoom in on the picture because I know what it looks like, but other than that, we couldn't get a clear picture (and we are NOT people who use flash on rides ... though I admit I used to years ago before I knew any better!). Anyway, just take a look at it when you ride it the next time! It's probably one of my favorites to see because really no one looks to the left since the scene is on the right.

(continued in next post)

(continued from previous post)

It's time to get our tour guide back! I think it'd be fun to see the path that the CM takes from the gangster or cowboy scene to this scene.

HALT.

I remember thinking that this was the coolest thing ever when I was a kid because it was interactive.

Now it's one of my favorite scenes because we stop for a long time and there's enough light to get a decent picture, haha.

When you look at it though, this is a pretty small room!

All is fine and dandy until the tour guide gets back in the ride vehicle and you have to travel through this next movie. I never remember what movie it actually is since I've never seen it, but I feel that it gets super creepy in here. To some degree, it's a little scarier than the alien scene. I don't think I ever noticed what was above us, and things above the ride vehicle always scare me!

I've never seen Casablanca before, and I admit that I don't actually care much to see it. The only bit of Casablanca I know is based on whatever I heard Lorelai talk about on Gilmore Girls! I do, however, like this scene when the animatronics lean in toward each other and their hats touch and bend a little. I don't know why I get such a kick out of it. It's like reminding me that they're animatronics but they're wearing real clothing!

HATED this movie as a kid and still am not fond of it because of that gosh darn Cowardly Lion! Yes, I said it. I'm not afraid of the flying monkeys; I'm afraid of that creepy lion! I think it's because he looks slightly Asian.

These Munchkins aren't the greatest to look at either. They're so shiny, and some of them are a bit scarier than others. None of them are scary in Wicked though, so I highly recommend watching that show, haha.

Although I guess you do need to know the story of Wizard of Oz to truly appreciate Wicked ...

I think the Wicked Witch is one of the best animatronics because she moves so well, and she was made quite a while ago!

Smoke. What a fantastic caption for that picture, right?

I remember reading some fun facts about this ride regarding the Wicked Witch's pouch. The Imagineers watched the movie many times and one of them noticed that she carried a little bag with her. It was important for them to include it on the animatronic. You can see it on her left side in this picture.

VIDEO: Wicked Witch

Goodbye, Witch! It's time for the CM to awkwardly say, "Why didn't I think of that? Sing along folks; you know the words" and for all of us to sit there in silence ...

Here's a "hidden" thing to look for when you ride through this scene. The beginning of the yellow brick road creates the letter O. The end of it in this scene zigzags across the grass thus creating the letter Z, which spells OZ! I thought that one was pretty cool.

No more pictures of the Great Movie Ride, but you all know how it ends. We sit in a room to watch a montage of movies where I get super excited to see the clip from Armageddon (one of my favorite movies as a teenager and STILL makes me cry) and then we go back to the loading/unloading room and give the CM some thunderous applause. Then you walk out and, depending on the time of day, have to squint because you're not used to the sunshine!

Great update Rachel! Love your awesome tour of the GMA and Howard's wonderful pics. That ride always brings back such great memories of our favorite movies.

Ahhh! The wicked witch video. That has to be among the best animatronics in Disney, period. BTW, besides the flying monkeys, the witch's pouch always freaked me out as a child! I kept wondering what she was going to pull out of there to do away with Dorothy and her friends.:faint: My imagination is far more terrifying than any movie.:scared1:

Love the hidden Mickey, Donald and license plate tips; such great new details to look for next trip.:magnify:

I didn't know about the Mickey silhouette in the GMR window. Very cool! :thumbsup2

Never would have thought to look up so high years ago!

That's interesting that you were scared of her pouch! I never noticed it before until I actually read that little bit of trivia in a book. I guess I watched the movie through squinted eyes as a kid and don't remember that much about it! And I agree; your imagination can sometimes be even scarier than the movie itself!

Hope you have fun seeing the extras on your next trip!

Great update! I love the Great Movie Ride! I think it could use a minor update, though, maybe redo one or two of the scenes in the movie, but at the least I think they should redo those clips while you are waiting in line. They update the ending one every so often, why not the beginning one too?

See, I LOVE the Wizard of Oz! It's one of my faves! I love the songs from that movie. :)

I agree. It'd be really interesting to see what movies they'd choose if they ever did update it! I never realized that they update the ending montage, haha. I guess nowadays I wait for Armageddon, and that's about it! They definitely should do something about the beginning one though. I barely recognize any of the movies. They should at least add more clips in so that if you end up waiting for a while (like on rainy occasions when everyone goes there), there' smore to see.

Haha, I knew there were some Oz fans out there!

Great update! :)

Thanks!

Grumpy and Hungry

After our trip through the movies, we headed over to The Magic of Disney Animation. Although we never actually do character meet and greets, I still do like seeing them from afar! I might have said it here before, but in my mind, when the character is farther away or in a show or parade, I can easily believe that it's Mickey or Cinderella. However, if I had to interact with said character, I wouldn't be able to shake the idea that it's an actual person wearing a costume or a wig and makeup. It probably doesn't help knowing that one of our DISers is friends with Pocahantas and Jasmine, haha. But I felt that way about characters much earlier than that. Despite my feelings about meeting the characters, I couldn't help but get excited seeing Stitch casually walk down the stairs!

The main attraction for us is Animation Academy, but since there was time until the next class, we decided to see what else the place had to offer. We spent a good amount of time putting our voices into some famous Disney movie scenes. I felt a little silly doing it at first, but no one was around, and then I figured, who cares! We're at Disney, and if I can't say the words at the right time or get the right note out when singing, it was fine! In fact, it would make for more laughs. I did take some quick videos of the scenes. I would definitely recommend trying these out with a buddy!

VIDEO: A Monkey's Uncle!

VIDEO: Singing Hakuna Matata

VIDEO: Being Beast and Belle

We headed back to Animation Academy but ended up being some of the last few to be let in for that class. We thought we'd wait, but they told us there was room in the back. We sat on a bench that fit the two of us perfectly, but we had to use the lap boards to draw. Of course, sitting at a desk is really the best scenario as you don't have to look down as much, but it really wasn't the lap boards that made us not enjoy this experience. It was the animator that was explaining all the steps!

I still get the slightest bit nervous that I'll be an utter failure especially when compared to what Howard can draw, but for the most part, I've been fairly successful. Having the opportunity to draw Grumpy got me really excited because I'm always looking for a girl shirt with Grumpy on it. But this animator was speeding through the directions, and he didn't describe the shapes in the same way we've had others do it. Instead of saying that we should draw an oval that looks like a kidney bean or using other ways to describe it, he would just say to draw an oval. He also didn't take the time to describe the size comparisons of what we had to sketch, so it required a LOT of looking up at the screen.

I think Howard's version is better than mine, but at least you can tell which dwarf it is. It's clearly Grumpy, or should I say Leroy since Howard and I are finally watching season 2 of Once Upon a Time because it's finally on Netflix!

Here you can see that it's not really the most ideal position, but it is workable if it's offered and you don't want to wait for the next class to begin.

We don't spend too much time here although some of the pictures really are quite beautiful as they capture so many details.

I thought this seat was pretty random, so I had to go over and take a picture. On trips after this, we've seen meet and greets happen here when it was raining. The funny thing is that after I posed and Howard snapped the picture, someone else coming out of the Animation Academy saw me and had to come over and take a picture sitting there too!

Admiring all the varieties of castles and cottages in Disney films.

We're not really people who feel the need to have artwork, but that could be because we're living in a small studio apartment that we know won't be our home forever. We still like looking at all the options though and taking pictures of the things that interest us.

I like that Mulan is in this picture.

More Mulan.

Considering it was Star Wars Weekends, there was a TON of Star Wars stuff. Howard had a blast looking at all of them. I like the crossovers like the one with Kermit and Yoda along with the one below it where you can Donald Duck as Han Solo.

The painting of C-3PO reminds me of something I don't think I've ever shared here. If you know ANYTHING about Star Wars, it's totally worth watching this clip of a 3-year old girl explaining the plot of the movie. It's absolutely adorable, and Howard and I have this video favorited because we watch it all the time! She calls C-3PO the "shiny guy" and says, "The shiny guy always worries."

More artwork.

At this point, we were ready to go get some grub so that we could get a spot really early for Hyperspace Hoopla. There wasn't much available for dinner, so we just went to ABC Commissary because the one thing we did want was air conditioning! I know I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but even if I were, I just can't justify spending $8.99 for pudding in a plastic R2D2. There are just so many other souvenirs to purchase in the park! The Darth Vader cupcake, on the other hand, would totally be worth it, haha.

Though this counter service does have ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, and honey mustard, they do not have cheese sauce. During our last trip in June though, we were pretty satisfied with these options because Howard began mixing the barbecue and honey mustard together for a yummy concotion based on what we've tried at Chik-fil-A.

We decided to just order a burger and split it. This was in no way similar to the burgers at Pecos Bill though. It really wasn't that good.

It was also super small! But we really got used to sharing the meals so that we'd finish every bit of it down to the last fry without any waste.

We knew that we had options to split something again later on, so there was no need to get two full entrees.

Despite it not being the best burger on property, it hit the spot in terms of satisfying those hunger pangs AND letting us eating in relative quiet in air conditioning. We actually sat near the exit door that's closest to the big hat. We had the divider on one side of us and then the wall on the other. The restaurant has a good amount of seating, so that's definitely a plus.

I cut the burger in half as Howard went to the bathroom. Since it was so small and I was starved, I devoured that thing so quickly!

I had to take a picture posing with a "Where's my husband?" look because I'm SUCH a slow eater that it was funny that I had finished my half before he got back! You can also see in these pictures that we save money by bringing our own drinks. Vitamin Water is the best for me because sometimes I need a little extra something that water can't provide, and I don't really enjoy drinking a lot of soda especially when it's super hot out. I think it's a bit too sweet for me. So we did get soda a few times with our meals, but for the most part, we drank Vitamin Water and water from our Garden Grocer order. Definitely worth it!

It's no surprise that with some down time, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to take a picture of my rings! When we go to the mall, I stop by the jewelery store where Howard purchased our rings to get them cleaned. This past Saturday when I got them cleaned, the guy asked if I used a lot of Purell. I do it use it often and used it a TON at school since I couldn't just leave my classroom and wash my hands whenever I felt I needed it. He said that the stuff in Purell actually starts to strip away (can't remember the exact phrases he used) white gold, so it is actually started to yellow and dull on the bottom where the hand sanitizer had the most contact. We have the care plan, so if I'm willing to drop my rings off and not have them for 5 days, they can refurbish it for me and make them look as good as new. Don't know when I'd do that though, but I'll be sure to get that done eventually. I always take my rings off to put lotion on, and now I'll have to do it with Purell too. Haha, you can see the culprit in the back of this photo too!

With our bellies satisfied, we needed to make one quick restroom stop before staking out our spot for Hyperspace Hoopla! I know it seems weird that Howard took a picture of me walking into the restroom, but this is always our "favorite" one when we're at DHS. It's not that it's any more special than other ones, but it's just the one that we use most often because of its central location.

Okay, now that this update is written, I'm trying to figure out how in the world I'm going to choose which pictures of Hyperspace Hoopla to include because Howard took a TON! Stay tuned!

We didn't spend time looking at the handprints and autographs this time, but Howard did snap a favorite!

I didn't know Howard was such a big fan of Danny DeVito? :confused3

I kid, I kid! :lmao:

Howard has to deal with me saying, "Take a picture of that!"

DH has to put up with me doing the same thing! :rotfl:

Great update! I really love the nostalgia that comes along with riding GMR even though we don't fit it in every trip anymore. I think we will be skipping it again this year because we tried it last year and the gunshots freaked DS out a little, and now he freaks out a LOT at loud noises, so it's probably not worth the meltdown that would result if we tried it.

I love the movie clips at the end too! Especially one of my all time favorite movies, Gone With the Wind!

I love The Great Movie ride! Olivia doesn't like it but I love the Wizard of Oz part! Great update!

That's interesting that you were scared of her pouch! I never noticed it before until I actually read that little bit of trivia in a book.

If you knew my father and husband, who pay excruciating attention to detail, you'd know where I got it from. It can be a good or bad thing.:scared::lmao:

We have yet to stop in the Animation Studio. Considering the animator, you did an amazing job with Grumpy! :artist: Thanks for the tour :goodvibes.

Your GMR pictures are wonderful. They are so nicely done with just the right amount of clarity.

Isn't amazing how sometimes when you are starving a burger can be the perfect food?

Beautiful rings.

Fun updates.
