MP3/ Media player help! (on a budget)

All right Budget board buddies, I need some help. I would like to get my DN some sort of mp3 media player. I can't afford an ipod. What media players can I load movies on to? Which ones have external memory card slots? And, most importantly, where can I find a good deal? I've looked at the Creative Zen, the Zune, and the Sandisk Sanza. They don't really seem much cheaper and I can't figure out what each will (or won't) do. Help!

I have the Sansa View and love it, the Boy has the Zen and it is a nice one as well. I prefer the View because of the thumb wheel, the Zen uses buttons. I looked at the Microsoft Zune a while back but it does not support drag and drop. This was a MUST for me. It can be done but it has to be hacked, I just couldn't be bothered. Both the View and Zen take the Micro SD cards. I don;t believe any of the iPods do. I would look for sales but your best option might be searching http://www.pricegrabber.com/ I always find better deals online. You can get an 8gig View for about $100.

Look at the Sony WalkMan. I only paid about $80 for ours 1 1/2 years ago.

I have a Sansa, Sandisk, RCA, ILO brand from Wal-Mart. The Sansa I got was from buy.com for 12.00 bucks. I got 2 Sandisk for 25.00 dollars off woot.com. The RCA was a black Friday special was less 90.00 with video. Keep your eye for good deals. There should be excellent deals to a make room for the new models.

For Christmas, I got my DD the Sansa Fuze mp3 player. It looks just like an iPod and it has the screen, thumbwheel, etc. Very easy to use, very easy to understand and it works great.

I think I paid about $50 for it. You can't use iTunes on it.... buy him a Napster card (I think it works out to $1/per song or something like that).

We got my 17 yr old a zen at christmas and it's a great mp3 player and he loves it.

I know the OP said they couldn't afford an ipod, but a refurbed 1gb ipod shuffle is 39, 2 gb shuffle 59, 8gb nano 99 at the Apple Store.

Refurbs are great deals--I've used a refurbed ipod for over 4 years now and it's still going strong.
