I got an unusual request last night and now I need some information. I was talking to my cousin who lives in the Fort Myers area. She asked me if I would be willing to trade houses for a year. For some reason she would like to try living in NH. Now it has been a dream of my husband and I to live in Fla. This sounds like a great oppurtunity to try on our dream while still having a safety net. What I would like to know is: Is this area nice? how are the schools? Any info from people who live there would be helpful. We are visiting WDW in May and will be making arrangements then.

Talk to Barry Hom... he's familiar with that area...

It looks nice to me, if that matters.

cammie,

My Dad & his wife presently live in Bonita Springs but are in the process of moving to Ft Myers as well. I'm sure they have researched it.

If you want type up an email and I will forward it to her. I'm sure that she would be more than willing to answer any questions that you may have?

PM me if you don't find your answers,
Lisa

That sounds very exciting .... good luck

I've lived in Ft. Myers for over 2 decades and I can say it is a nice place to live. The schools aren't too bad, although they go through budget cuts and poor funding like most other schools in Florida. Jobs aren't too bad. There's not too many IT jobs, though.

Best things about the city...

1.) No snow!
2.) 4 hours from Orlando!

Bad things...

1.) Not much of a nighlife here
2.) Lots of senior citizens

Fort Myers has changed LOTS in the 7+ years that we've lived here but there's still no place I would rather live!
The schools vary widely but, overall in Florida, are improving. We have something called school choice (part of a settlement for a desegregation lawsuit) where the county has been divided into 3 zones and you can pick which school in your zone that you would like your children to attend BUT, you may not get your 1st choice.
Fort Myers is beautiful and the area from Fort Myers down south to Naples is blending together with Bonita Springs in the middle. We actually live south of Fort Myers but north of Bonita in an area called Three Oaks. There's a new University around the corner and Lee & Collier counties have more golf holes per capita than any part of the world!
Our population almost doubles here in the winter (season) with the "snowbirds" coming down from the north.
Check out the local newspaper, The News-Press
If you have any specific questions, just ask . . .

Thank you so much for the information. Im sure I will have more questions as the plans get finalized!!! After this terrible winter I would love no snow or cold.
