We have sailed on the Wonder in a Cat. 5 (with a Verhanda). We are planning a family trip with DH's DB and family and DM. We will be paying for DM's room and whatever. We would love to stay in the same catagory, but think it would be wiser to move to a less expensive room.::yes::

Has anyone done this? Do you feel that you were missing something? Do the cat. 8 rooms feel open or closed in?:crowded:

Regardless to where our room is, we will still be on the DCL:cloud9:

We have stayed in Cat 4 and then went to Cat 9's then Cat 7, Cat 8's, Cat 11's, etc.

Point being I never felt closed in in any of the cabins (except the Cat 11) but we had 4 adults in there and it was too tight).

Anywhere on the ship is fine with me as long as I am on the ship. The Cat 5 and Cat 8 rooms are the same size. The Cat 8 just does not have a veranda.

We just did something similar. We were originally booked in a cat. 5, but dropped down to a 7 to save some $$$. We were lucky and were able to get one of the reclassified 7's that has the same type of verandah as cat. 5, only with a slight obstruction.

Anyway, my point for your case is this... what is the price difference between an 8 and a 7 for your cruise? If it's not that much, you could still keep a verandah (navigator's) but save some $$$. Or you could keep one Cat. 5 room and book an 11 across the hall from it. That way your family has the use of one verandah, but not the expense of two cat. 5 rooms.

Otherwise, I don't think you'll be disappointed in an 8, especailly if you don't plan to spend much time in the room. There are plenty of places onboard where you can go to be outside. If, however, you really love the outside and want to spend a lot of time reading or relaxing and watching the sea go by, you may miss the verandah. But that's up to your personal preference.

I think if you want to save $, this is a smart move....

Consider that an 8 and a 9 are the same room--just on different decks. Actually, the lower and more midship you are, the less motion there is. So...if I were looking at an 8, I'd take a 9 and save a few more $.
