Moving from a home resort at 11 months to 7 month reservation

Maybe a simple question but if I book my home resort at 11 months, what is the procedure to book another resort at 7 months for the exact same dates, assuming I only have enough points left for 1 stay? Do I have to cancel my home resort before booking the other resort at the 7 month mark, or will the system allow me to book the preferred resort at the 7 month mark and then cancel my home resort afterward?

I’m hoping Poly would be available the 3rd week of October next year at 7 months but not sure how realistic that is. We just bought at VGF this year so this is a bit new to me.

I believe you would just book your home resort at 11mos, then when you reach the 7mo window go in to the DVC website and modify your reservation.

We do this every year- booking what we call our "place-holder" reservation at 11 Months.
Then at 7 Months - we look to see if our preferred choice is available. I usually check frequently the days before the 11 Month mark and, the morning of at 8am, I go into my existing reservation and select "Modify".
Then you can switch your reservation to another resort.

Just modify you current reservation and it will give you the options to switch based on what is available.

If you want to do a split stay, or would consider one, it’s best to book your home resort in two reservations so you easily modify part!
