Moving... but not just for the CP!

Hi everyone,

I've been accepted into the Spring 2013 College Program at WDW. I'm also in the process of trying for a PI. I graduate from my university in December, so no matter what I do (CP or PI), I plan on making a permanent move to the Orlando/Disney Area. So, I'm going to skip DCP housing if I do the CP.

However, finding a nice, well-located apartment via the internet is hard to do. I'm overwhelmed with apartment websites and even then, I won't be able to tell anything about the area it's in (safety-wise). When I was living there for a College Program last year, I wasn't serious enough about moving to actually go look at apartments. I visited WDW over the summer, but was only able to tour 3 apartment complexes: Cagan Crossings, Alexandria Parc Vue, and Abaco Key.

To be honest, the only one I liked was Cagan Crossings, but it seems like such a drive from WDW property. Does anyone have any sggestions for apartments close to Disney World? I'd rather stay near WDW property than live closer to Orlando/downtown.

I actually just looked for apartments last weekend. I've been accepted into the CP for Spring Advantage but also waiting on a possible PI. I'd like to be in Disney housing either way if there's PI apartments available just to meet people. But - I looked at Crosswater at Lakeside Village (brand new construction) and it is great there. It is on the backside of MK off of Reams Road and 535. I also looked at Sabal Plams at Lake Buena Vista right by Vineland and Apopka Trail (just under I-4) kind of by Chatham/Patterson.

Hope that helps. I've been at college in Orlando so I'm a little familiar with the area and I have friends in the CP so that has helped.

Do you know rent prices for crosswater? Not sure but if I remember correctly that's one with a website lacking rent prices.

Until I left Orlando, I lived at Camden World Gateway. The rent is higher than Cagan Crossings, but the property is well managed and is close to the 536 entrance to WDW. If I had to describe the location, it's between the Nick Hotel/Marriott World Center and the CP Walmart on Vineland.

Century Palms is on the same road and is newer - and as you might guess, more expensive.

Further away, I toured the Cottages at Hunters Creek and liked it as well. It's still fairly close, but the area its in has lots of POIs you might be interested in - The Loop is just around the corner as are other shopping/dining options (whereas the other two I've mentioned are kind of on their own "bubble").

Cagans crossing is probably only 25 minutes to work. I live near there.

I am in the exact same boat! The only difference is I am taking the housing for the first CP...I am also up for 4 different PI's so not sure what will happen. But this way having a place to not worry about gives me the time to look around and see where I might want to be!!
I was going to try to just move and not do the housing....just think it will be a lot cheaper before I have all my furniture moved down! lol

Oh yeah that's totally understandable. CP housing is really economical. I just am so sick of moving. I've moved 2-3 times per year every year in college. So instead of moving to CP housing then moving back out, I think I'm just trying to move directly into my own place. Also the management PIs aren't offered housing at all. The other PIs have the option but even then housing is limited so in case I get a PI, I'd rather not risk not having a place.

My role for spring advantage '13 is hospitality which is a pretty coveted role from what I hear so PI or not, I'm satisfied.

More on topic I guess... has anyone heard anything about Bella? The website makes it look gorgeous but one of the apartment reviews sites had negative reviews.

I got accepted for Spring, also, and plan on living off-site. My boyfriend is also getting a job in Orlando (not cp) so we wanted to find our own apartment. We already live together now, we're both graduating in December, and we want to stay in Orlando long-term.
When you send a request to housing, do you have to have an exact address for it to get approved? My concern is...I don't want to go through the process of looking and finding a place, but then housing deny my request because I don't have a good enough reason or something.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

For anybody saying CP housing is economical do the math on a 4 bedroom with 8 people paying $100 a week. That's incredibly expensive.

You'll definitely face a choice with finding apartments near property. Anything close and "nice" will be expensive. Consider a 1/1 for $1000, or a 2/2 for $1200. I would try and find roommates. A lot of younger CM's are always looking for roommates.

Yeah if you take a step back you realize that college program housing is pretty much highway robbery. The double occupancy per room thing, the restrictions (inspections) etc just aren't worth close to 100 per week. The only reason I called it economical is because I logically could save up more money if my rent was 95/week or 400 per month in CP housing with no separate utilities. For the lifestyle I want though and no restrictions and no room roommate, that's exactly why it's worth living in an apartment not sponsored by Disney.

What you do is contact housing and let them be knowing you will be living offsite. They will mark it as 'pending final approval' until you actually provide them with a real address at which you will be living. You still pay all the fee's upfront and after 30 days on the CP you get the housing portion back.

I can't find any reviews/opinions on Victoria Park. Anyone know anything? The website looks really nice but obviously looking for an opinion from someone that lives there or knows someone that lives there.
