Movies w/interracial relationships

Just about any Jennifer Lopez movie.

Hitch with Will Smith and Eva Mendas

How about the one that stars the guy from "friends" and a very pretty mexican actress? They get married, she gets pregnant and she leaves b/c they are from two different worlds? His parents come to the house, not knowing they are married, and think she is a cleaning lady. At the end she goes into labor on the side of the highway. Somebody help me out with the title!

Fools Rush In - Matthew Perry and Selma Hayak

If it's for a class, they probably want a movie with an interracial love story - in which that element is crucial to the plot.

In which case the grandaddy of them all is WEST SIDE STORY!

Movies in which the protagonists are of different races, but it isn't really made a big deal of in the movie probably aren't what the teacher is looking for.

High School Musical - isn't Gabriella Hispanic?

Several Sidney Poitier movies have to do with inter racial relationships
A Patch of Blue.. is an amazing piece! Tell her to check this out for sure as it was done in the early 1960's. I think it is a great way to start any paper on this topic

To Sir with Love...not only about just one relationship btwn a man and a woman but deals with racial stereotypes... one of my favorite movies EVER

Spike Lee's Jungle Fever

The Bodyguard.. does not deal with interracial relationships.. it had a relationship btwn Costner and Huston.. but race was never discussed.. which I think was the best part of the movie.

Fools Rush In great modern movie dealing with cultural differences in a humourous manor.
also...
Joy Luck Club love Amy Tan...

Check out old reruns of All in the Family... classic, timeless and thought provoking... especially the one where neighbor Lionel dates Archie's niece.

My favorite, and one that very few people have probably ever seen, is Map of the Human Heart.

Fools Rush in is one of my favorite movies! But to clarify, she gets pregnant first hence the marriage.

And an older one with Keanue Reeves is "A Walk in the Clouds" takes place during WWII California, in the wine vinyards. He's back from WWII and meets a Mexican girl who's pregnant, but afraid to tell her large, old school, wealthy family, so he steps up and says he's the father. Beautiful movie!!

Another one of my faves!

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

I was going to suggest this one, too. Particularly for younger people who may be surprised by some of the attitudes that were so prevalent.

I also recommend A Patch of Blue. This excellent film is from 1965 features an Oscar winning performance by Shelley Winters. The soundtrack is great, too.

Bend it Like Beckham
Bride & Prejudice
Real Women Have Curves
The Namesake (in theaters now)
Spanglish (though there are many other themes there)

Very, very true. My Mom is Japanese and my Dad is of Irish/Scottish descent and when the topic of interracial relationships come up, folks never think of our family in that equation. Doesn't bug me, just makes me think, "HEY! HEY! HEY! We're interracial!!! Look at me! Asian green eyes! Come ON!"

I think of your interracialness. :) OK so I didn't know you were mixed race until now (are you the one on the left in your picture?), but since DH is half Korean, making DS quarter Korean (and 1/8 Welsh, 1/8 Portuguese, and approx 1/2 Irish mutt), I think of white and Asian *first* when I think of interracial stuff. :) Oh, and speaking of your green eyes, our DS has bright red hair, and hazel eyes, and light skin that TANS w/o burning (lucky kid, says his pink mother).

Shogun would be a LONG movie for this project, and it's not modern, but it might work.

Remember that West Side Story is just Romeo and Juliet...

Husband has now retracted his Twin Dragons comment

I'm really not sure they get into the interracial stuff (I think it's pretty much about being Chinese with old-school parents in a modern world), but there's the Wedding Banquet.

Hubby mentioned Wedding Banquet, and also mentions Mr Baseball, which I've never seen (but it seems a good excuse to watch Tom Selleck).

Bend it Like Beckham.

Dang, DH is coming up with all of these!

He continues...La Bamba.

I think there was a movie with Timothy Hutton in it about a real couple - I think it was called "the Loving's" - I think the last name was Loving.

I can't remember if it was made for tv or theatre though.
