Movies w/interracial relationships

Very, very true. My Mom is Japanese and my Dad is of Irish/Scottish descent and when the topic of interracial relationships come up, folks never think of our family in that equation. Doesn't bug me, just makes me think, "HEY! HEY! HEY! We're interracial!!! Look at me! Asian green eyes! Come ON!"

One of my favorite movies of all time is "Come See the Paradise" (1990) with Tamlyn Tomita and Dennis Quaid. It was set during WWII and showed the affects of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Japanese internment camps on their courtship and marriage. Very well done and very moving!

The Timothy Hutton movie that RealMickeysGirl is referring to is called "Mr. and Mrs. Loving." It was a made-for-tv movie (also starred Lela Rochon as Mrs. Loving) that documented the true story of how Mr. and Mrs. Loving successfully fought to overturn the law against interracial marriage.

There's a movie called Love Field, it takes place in 1963 immediately after the Kennedy assassination, a black man is taking his daughter away from her mother because of her being abusive, but is charged with kidnapping, so he is on the run...he meets a whire woman on a bus to JFK;s funeral. Very good movie, from what I remember.

I think of your interracialness. OK so I didn't know you were mixed race until now (are you the one on the left in your picture?), but since DH is half Korean, making DS quarter Korean (and 1/8 Welsh, 1/8 Portuguese, and approx 1/2 Irish mutt), I think of white and Asian *first* when I think of interracial stuff. Oh, and speaking of your green eyes, our DS has bright red hair, and hazel eyes, and light skin that TANS w/o burning (lucky kid, says his pink mother).

Yep, my brothes and I are a mix. Some folks can pick up on it, other folks have no clue. That's me on the left of the pic, with the dark tan. Now, I'm fishbelly white. That's the Irish side of me.

You should see my nieces. They're one quarter Japanese. One is blonde and blue eyes, the other is dark brown hair with green eyes. Both are beauties and going to be heart breakers when they grown up!

bumbershoot and Rick, I am not sure if you have heard of the term hapa which was a Hawaiian term which originally meant half Hawaiian/half Caucasian. The meaning has evolved, of course, and that is what I call myself. I am Chinese, Hawaiian, Portuguese, Caucasian, Portuguese, and I just found out my great grandfather was half Portuguese and half African (don't know what exactly - yet) so I now add that to my heritage.

My neighbor is half Japanese and her daughters are beautiful! I can usually tell if someone is "mixed," but she told me before I had any clue.

Oh, my dh and I think Star Trek is the best example of interracial movies/tv programming..ETA: interspecies, too. lol
