DS17 is having 5 friends over tomorrow night to celebrate his birthday. I'd like to rent at least 2 movies. They may or may not watch them...but Id like to have it available. Both boys and girls, all 16-17 yrs old.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

It can be fun to do a theme night. For my Daughters 18 Bday we did Indiana Jones movie night. The kids loved it since most of them did not see them when they first came out. Also Pirates of the Caribbean or Men in Black I and II (since III is coming out soon)

What do they like?!

I agree theme is good but depends on what they like... horror, adventure, sci fi, romantic period pieces...

My daughter is 16, and she picks movies herself from our collection or Netflix, or the other girls bring them.

I just pretty much avoid them all. Provide food and stay quiet, and out of the way.

I remember when I was around that age, I used to get together with friends, boys and girls and the boys would always bring horror flicks, which I HATE!!! Could never understand it....I told them I hated horror movies. Well, I was complaining one day to my older brother and he informed me that boys brought over horror movies for a reason.......so they could "console" the girls.....hmmm, gosh, I was naive back then. LOL!!!!

DD is 16 and they actually had a Disney movie night. They also watched Footloose.

This isn't rocket science, ask him what they would like. :confused3

Give them your credit card and the keys and let them go to redbox and rent what they want to watch.

Or tell your DS to go ahead of time and get a few. I'm sure they know what they want to see and what they have seen. Sounds like a good job for the birthday boy.

I agree with Declansdad. Perhaps you should ask him. Or maybe you did, and he requested something naughty. In which case you should get that.

My library has a great selection of newer and older DVD's. Probably a bit late for borrowing so last minute.

I just picked up Super 8 and Hop from my library. I had requested them a while ago.

Believe it or not...I have asked him. He was looking for new ideas. Thought perhaps others would have something they loved that he hadn't thought about.

I like the idea of theme ... but he thinks they will only watch one... might rent a theme anyway, just in case. They are planning to walk and have other activities planned. I just wanted a back up, just in case I feel they need redirecting ;) or it rains, which is a possibility.

He's going to go to Red Box soon. Thanks!

It is hard to suggest for that age cause usually they have seen everything! I don't know what is out or what kind of things they like. Or who he cares to please the most. I mean sometimes the girls would rule and tell the boys to just deal!

I don't know if 16 is old enough to appreciate it but my DD is older and one night in the dorm they all watched Lion King about 15 boys and girls because that was the movie they all remember as being the first they saw in the theater as kids.
So maybe the Disney movie that was out when they were 2-3?

One thing that was a hit at my DD's birthday when she was that age was charades! They loved it and played a long time, so maybe have some slips made out. Sounds silly but they had a blast and quite a few pictures made it to facebook from that game.

Remember the Titans
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Big Fat Liar (sssoooo funnny)

National Treasure I & II

Night at Roxbury

My boys are 15-18yrs old love to watch funny movies they have never seen before.

A new Spiderman is coming out:

Spiderman 1 & 2 would be good.

The Men in Black I & II would be interesting

Since the Avengers has come out, you could do Thor, Iron Man, and all the other assorted

I would just send him to redbox and and go from there.

Here's one I think they'll really enjoy and probably missed in the theater - it just became a rental on the 15th: Chronicle.

HIGHLY recommend. It got 85% on Rottentomatoes, but people just didn't know what it was about. It's about these kids (about the age of your group) who acquire super powers and how they deal with them. It's very well done, I highly recommend.

My DD14 year old's favorite movie is Blues Brothers, so perhaps a classic like that might be good too.

Ask them. I have boys that age around here all the time. When they want a movie, they do all the deciding. I would never suppose that I could make the right choice for a group of late teen aged boys. Seriously, ask them.

Breakfast Club or Stand By Me may work if they have all seen the recent stuff.
