My daughter wanted to have a halloween party. I felt that there was too much going on around Halloween to even consider it, so I suggested that we have a movie party. We are renting out a local theatre for three hours and having snacks and a movie. I am stumped as to what to suggest they watch. My daughter is 7 and in second grade and we have invited her entire class.

She wanted to watch Batman Begins, but I thought the rating was inappropriate considering it's not just my kids. Then she wanted High School Musical but I don't see the boys liking that and them goofing off during the movie.

I suggested watching finding nemo or something along those lines and she looked at me like I had three heads. :dance3:

Can anyone suggest anything that might be liked by both boys and girls, ages 5-8 ??? lol :confused3

Any ideas are welcome. I was actually considering E.T. or a christmas movie since we are doing the party the week before thanksgiving, but I'm not sold on anything. thanks! :flower3:

My kids had a movie party when they turned 7. We had to choose from what was currently in theaters though. "Ratatouille" had come out the week before so that is what they watched.

"Madagascar 2" comes out soon. How about that? Or does it have to be a movie that is already out on DVD?

There were two options.. what was in the theatre at the time or for less than half the money, bring my own movie... we went with bring my own movie. LOL

I think the issue my daughter had was that she didn't want to watch an animated moive. Apparently she feels "cartoons are for babies" lol

How about Halloweentown 1-3, or Twitches 1 & 2 ? Very age appropriate. My kids love them. Let us know what you decide.

What about the Sandlot or Sandlot 2? I think that would appeal to both boys and girls, especially #2, since there's girls that play baseball in it. Mighty Ducks 1,2,3? You're brave! I'm not sure I'd survive an afternoon with all those kids...

I think E.T. gets a little too scary after the government breaks into the house and they have that whole medical scene. My 10 year old recently saw the movie and he said that part was kind of scary for him. How about Toy Story? That would appeal to both boys and girls. If you want a Christmas movie, we love A Christmas Story - it's about Ralphie who wants a BB gun for Christmas and all of his misadventures in trying to get one (we even have a bunny named Ralphie!). The other thing that might be fun is to string together a bunch of animated Christmas specials (Charlie Brown, The Grinch, Frosty, etc.). Those might appeal to short attention spans instead of an entire movie.

My older daughter suggested Nightmare Before Christmas and Casper meets Wendy.

I am actually making a list for her :) thank you for all the suggestions I thought about Nightmare before Christmas but thought it might scare some kids.

It's not that many kids actually. I think there are only 24 in her class. I'm not inviting the entire grade. Last year we had a skating party with the whole grade and all the cheerleaders from her squad. :cheer2: ( There are 3 elementary schools in her district I only invited the kids from her school, but some of the cheerleaders go to the other elementaries ) There were 71 kids that came from school, plus all her cousins. THAT was insane on my part. I will NEVER do that again!!!!

Anyone have any opinions on that movie where the kids get stranded at the airport? what was that called ?? LOL

Definitely NOT E.T. I bought this movie for my DD when she was about 5-6 and thought nothing of it, until we started watching. There were, I believe, 3 curses in the movie, none of which I remembered, but I had seen the movie when I was a teen, so I don't think it would have even registered to me then. The first, and I think the worst, is in the beginning of the movie, while the kids are sitting around the kitchen table waiting for the pizza delivery to come. She didn't notice, because she didn't know they were curses, but I was horrified! Besides the language, she had nightmares about the aliens coming for her for months. :rotfl:

How about "Alvin and the Chipmunks". I love that movie!!

Here's a few ideas....

1. Night at the Museum
2. The Golden Compass
3. Big Fat Liar
4. Minute Men
5. Garfield
6. Hocus Pocus
7. Cheaper By The Dozen
8. Freaky Friday
9. Jumangi
10. Lemony Snicket
11. Harry Potter

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions :) my daughter has a list and she gets to pick.. I think everything on there will be appropriate so I left it up to her :)

I'd say to steer away from the Golden Compass and Harry Potter... some moms don't want their kids watching either of those.

We just watched Nim's Island with DD7 and she loved it. There were a few scary moments, but nothing too serious, and I think both boys and girls would love it. You might look at a movie review site like commonsensemedia.org for ideas and to see if the movies include anything inappropriate.

I'd go with something that maybe a lot of kids may not have seen. I think "Home Alone" (1 or 2) would be great for kid's that age. That was my favorite movie when I was a kid and I still love it. I think kid's will get bored with a movie they have seen a bunch. Just my opinion. :goodvibes
