For Christmas, my DD gave her teachers a movie night basket that I read about here on the DIS boards. I got a plastic popcorn box at Target $1 spot (red and white stripe box). I put in a big bar of Hershey's Chocolate (movie theater size bar - BOGOF at CVS), a bag of Boy Scout Microwave Popcorn and a $5 Blockbuster gift card (from rewards program!). All the teachers loved them and seemed happy.

So, if you still need to get something for the teachers this was a great tip!

Nice. I like this idea and may steal it for Valentine's day coming up. Thanks. :thumbsup2

What a super idea! That's something that they can actually "use." Even if they aren't a movie watcher they can pass the card on to a friend or family member who is.

DH has gotten two Blockbuster cards in between a raffle and a grab bag at work in the past few weeks, $50 worth! He's not much of a movie watcher, but our son is the Blockbuster king! So guess who's getting BB gift cards in their stocking? :rotfl: :teeth:

We have done this every year for the past 4 years and it has always gone over well. I used to add bottled water or pop, but I got tired of carrying them(too heavy). This year I added little packets of the Disney Koolaid mix that Kroger is carrying for the teachers that I knew had small children. It seemed to be a hit. I know my girls liked giving them. We did 11 so far this year. :thumbsup2

I may have been part of the original "idea team" for this one. But we put in actual DVD's instead of Blockbuster cards or movie passes. Of course, since we're giving these to family members, we have an idea of what movies they may or may not have. Last year, I made up one for hubby to bring to his Yankee Swap at work and it was a pretty popular gift choice.

This year I bought a few of the Crate & Barrel ceramic popcorn bowls. (they don't sell them in the stores anymore, only the Outlet. The stores have plastic ones now) I got a great deal on them and we bought various candy and DVD sets so we could make them up for our parents. I'm hoping they'll enjoy them since they all love watching DVD's.

I love this idea and have used it. This year my extended family is having a Yankee swap with a $$ limit of about $15.... yikes... too low! But I managed to make up a "Family Movie Night" bucket. I bought (quite a while ago... been saving) a large plastic popcorn bucket and two smaller individual bowls at Building #19. Total of $4 for all. I found a movie 3-pack at Walmart in November.... all family friendly (National Velvet, Black Beauty, and some other horse movie) for $9.99. I added a Jiffy Pop ($1/Target), large bag of Twizzlers (about $1.29 on sale), and two small boxes of Junior Mints (.25 each). I did go a bit over budget (just under $17), but I think it will be a hit!

This is such a great idea because it can be done for under $10 or way over... depending on the budget. It can include a specific movie or a gift card for a movie rental. Lots of variations. ...................P

I did this for my employees this year, and so far they have been a hit.

popcorn plastic red stripe bins?

I've "over" used this gift for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc but it's great!! I love this gift and everyone who gets it loves it!!

Instead of the plastic box/bin I've used the paper popcorn bucket you can buy at the Blockbuster stores and at some of the food markets. It's a paper bucket that has popcorn on the botttom and you pop it in the microwave and it pops the popcorn right in the bucket (how convenient). Makes a great basket for holding a few more microwave popcorn bags and the giant movie candy which you can get at the dollar store.

I just gave one of these for a family down the street that is having a difficult time. I used the blockbuster popcorn box and put everything in it. I also went to Walmart and got Regarding Henry. I thought that they would enjoy this movie. Thanks for the great idea! It seems to never get old.

If you don't want to make them yourself, JC Penney has someting similar on clearance right now, at least they do around me! It's $19.99 online but I think it might be less in stores.
