Movie: Ariel's Beggining

I was shocked when I found out there will be a new movie of the Little Mermaid narrating the story just about a few years before she met Eric.. I'm confused, does anyone knows about this new DVD realease? I have to say I have't like ANY of Disney sequel but this seems like a pre-quel.
I've read that many people aren't that happy because they are showing other stuff that is the opposite to the series The little mermaid (on Disney Channel), like flounder being friends with Ariel since they were little (on the series) and on the trailer they seem to become friends a few years before she met Eric. I mean I thought Flounder and Ariel grew up together... Or sebastian becoming friends with Ariel after Triton tells him to search for her (on the Original movie) but it seems they were friends before (according to the trailer). I'm confused, REALLY confused... what do you think about this movie?

I have been hearing about this movie for a LONG time. I mean YEARS. When I got the platnium Little Mermaid DVD edition they talked about this movie prequel coming out. I think the either scrubbed it (since Ariel II was awful) or it's just on a back burner. I've heard that John Lasseter hates stright to DVD sequels so made he killed it.

Oh...I hadn't heard about August.

Last I heard it was to come out Spring of 2007 and before that
Summer of 2006.
