Moved from the Budget Board: anyone else eliminating High Fructose Corn Syrup

Any other bread recommendations? I am in NEOhio and the closest stores that carry the Martin's breads are over an hour away in PA. Bread seems to be the hardest thing to find without corn syrup.

thanks for any suggestions

:wave2: I am also in NE Ohio and the only bread I have found w/o HFCS is a Target Brand (Archer Farms? Sorry, I am terrible at remembering names) Whole Wheat Bread. I have only seen it there a couple of times, it seems to sell out quickly.

I would love to hear of other brands that are easier to find.

Howdy, Neighbor! :goodvibes

Arnold's has a healthy bread that has no HFCS in it. There are a bunch of flavors. They also just came out with new flat breads. They are like a flat roll. They taste so good! No HFCS and they are high fiber high protein.

Thank you VERY VERY much for this recipe! I'm thrilled!!! I'm already making homemade hot fudge, so this should be just as easy. You're the best!! :cheer2:

Aaawww! :goodvibes I hope you like it! I grew up on it and used to make it for my boys, before they switched to real maple.

Good luck finding the Coke.

I just noticed that Thomas's english muffins now say "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" on their label.

I'm going to be on the hunt for that passover Coke. I miss my coke big time!

If you have a Safeway in your area, their "O" breads are HFCS free. I'm really liking their line of Organics. I've also been buying their "O" preserves.

Thanks for the recommendations. No Safeway here but a score with Arnold's breads. They are carried at my local Acme so I will check them out!

Thanks

Hi!

I just found this thread and just wanted to say I try to avoid HFCS too! One of my biggest pet peeves is the companies who say they are "natural" but have this on the label!!! Campbell's Tomato Soup is a great example!!

As far as bread goes, we use Nature's Own 100% Whole Wheat. It was recommended by the Feingold diet (something we tried years ago) and we have just stuck to that brand.

Great thread!! Thanks.

I found some Passover Coke in 2 liter bottles at Ralph's today. It was mixed in with the regular 2 liter bottles, but had the yellow caps. Does anyone know if they just put it out in the 2 liter bottles or if they have cans of it as well?

I bought 2 bottles and will try it tomorrow and may be heading back to Ralph's to stock up. :cool1:

I bought a 12 pack of Coke cans with sucrose this weekend at Weis Markets. There wasn't any distinguishing factor to look for, I just read the ingredients list.

This thread has been so enlightening!! I guess I am lucky to have Trader Joe's close enough to be my primary grocery store. I only found a few things in the house with HFCS... all things I picked up at Target between regular grocery trips: bread, Heinz ketchup, Miracle Whip, Hershey's syrup. I picked up some of TJ's choc syrup when I was there today and the cashier (another mom) said it's the best and she knew allllll about HFCS, her son has issues with it.

I also got some blue agave for my coffee. How much do I need to use? I've been using splenda.

I gave up buying soda a few years ago... because I was lazy! There are a few flights of stairs to my apt and those darn cases of soda were too heavy :) So now I'll have maybe 2-3 cans per week at work, but that's way better than a case a week!

That's good to know...I'll have to check some cans. I prefer cans for portion control - knowing there's an open bottle in the fridge makes me want to go back for refills. :rolleyes1

I just noticed that Thomas's english muffins now say "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" on their label.

I was looking at these the other day while waiting in line at the pharmacy. All 3 kinds I looked at (regular, whole wheat and multigrain) seemed to be HFCS free.

I have been buying the Franz, Oregon Trail, 100% whole wheat. I am in Washington, so the Oregon Trail might be regional, I have no idea. I haven't looked at any of the other Franz breads though.

Also the Safeway store brand bagels are HFCS Free.

Thank you for visiting the Blue Sky website!

High Fructose Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Sweetener and Glucose Fructose are all essentially the same thing.

We do produce some of our BLUE SKY line of beverages with sugar cane syrup alone and you will enjoy these products very much. To find more information about Blue Sky Sodas, please visit the website at www.drinkBluesky.com.

Don't you love it when you tell them you looked at their website to get the info you're asking about, and they tell you to look at their website?

:upsidedow

Bumbershoot, thanks for letting us know that Blue Sky got back to you.

Bummer about the glucose fructose syrup being the same thing, but at least I didn't buy that Dr Becker!

I did, however, have DH head back out to Ralph's last night and he bought me 20 bottles of the Kosher Coke!   So, if I'm good about only drinking it at lunchtime (like I'm supposed to be doing :rolleyes1 ), that should last me for quite a while. Maybe not until next Passover....but I didn't think he'd buy me more than that! :rotfl2:

I happened to catch the Coke vender restocking in a local store and asked about the non-HFCS bottled coke and he had no clue.

I received an email from Kraft the other day showing the Capri Suns will now be made without HFCS. :)

Apparently some of the large food companies are getting a clue! :thumbsup2

I just had this website sent to me by one of my anti HFCS pals. It's old fashion soda's made with cane sugar. The per unit price doesn't look so bad but I do wonder how much 24 filled glass bottles would cost to ship. :scared1:

http://www.retrosoda.com/

It's getting easier and easier for me to do this!

Does anyone know of a good Poppyseed Dressing that doesn't contain HFCS? Also, what about sports drinks? My boys are having to give up their Gatorade during baseball games and I feel badly for them! Thanks!!

I made this poppy seed dressing and it was YUMMY!

subscribing to this thread. we are also trying to eliminate HFCS and trans fats. I find it very difficult to go to the regular grocery store and find things without these ingredients. I love Whole Foods b/c I can buy anything there and not have to read the label as closely! I know that's not an option for everyone though. :(
