purchasing the meal vouchers from anyone except a certain ticket place wher they are much more expensive. Is there any reason the vouchers are not as valuble from Hotwire or other sources? Has anyone has issues with the discount vendors?

I love Mousesavers but I disagree with her assessment of Hotwire. I joined last year, bought tons of gift cards, tickets and vouchers over the holidays. I canceled after a couple of months and rejoined recently. I have had excellent service and their prices are great. Like all businesses there are inevitable goof-ups, and some have been mentioned on this board. I would not have joined again if I had not experienced good prices and service.

I have had no issues with HSC! I have ordered PHP's, Lunch Vouchers and gift cards and have obtained them all in a timely manner!

Most people here have had no issue with Hotwire. But they aren't in good standing with the BBB in a lot of states and several states have taken legal action against them. Occationally, people here will post about double billing or about Hotwire not cancelling their membership when requested and continuing to get billed.

My two cents - all businesses have problems, but the company that owns Hotwire has had more than their share - most businesses don't have states AG offices after them. Perhaps they have cleaned up their act, perhaps not. You should not look at this as a risk free transaction, take other people's experiences and BBB listings as a warning - that's what they are there for. Then decide if the risk is worth it for you.

Has anyone ever had a problem redeeming them?

No problem at all with redemption.

I think the problem with Hotwire is that they have lousy customer service. They are great at fulfilling orders in a timely manner but if you have a problem somewhere along the line, it can be very difficult to get it fixed. Their customer service reps are not very well trained nor are they allowed to do very much to fix anything.

As long as you can do what you need to do over the internet and avoid calling in (except to cancel) you should be okay.

Just remember if there is a credit card problem that they are not resolving you should send your request for reversal, etc to the bank that issues your credit card IN WRITING.

Look at it from Mousesaver's point of view: People have had trouble with this company; it's a fact. If she recommends them and you have trouble, you're going to distrust Mousesavers. In running Mousesavers, she has to be more careful than an individual consumer.

And use a credit card, not a debit card, for internet transactions. They provide more protection.

I agree. I just think Mousesavers doesn't want to reccommend anything that might cause a problem. Not all mousesaver readers belong to boards like this one, so they may not know to use a credit rather than debit card, file disputes in writing, etc.

I heard the warning but joined Hotwire anyway. I've had no problems so far.

Crisi - How do you find the information on which states are having a problem with Hotwire?

I just checked the Better Business Bureau on Hotwire and they have a satisfactory standing. So I'm wondering if I'm not doing something right or not checking in the right place to determine if a business has a problem. We've talked about using them and if they are in bad standing with the BBB I'd like to look at that info to determine if we want to try them.

Hotwire really has nothing to do with the program. They are basically selling a "private label" version of connections. Connections has a long history of horrible conduct.

If you pay by credit card and are willing do document everything give it a shot. People use them but I don't blame Mary for not recommending them.

Thanks :) That's exactly the type of information I was looking for. I did not realize that the Hotwire Savings Club was the same as Connections. I'd read quite a bit of bad stuff with Connections but not as nearly as much bad stuff with Hotwire, that's why we were considering them. I don't blame anyone for not recommending something or someone in this day and age - you never know when someone is going to blame you when it goes wrong. I just like knowing why someone has a problems with a company - like another poster said, all companies have problems. This gives me more to think about.

I have belonged for about 4 months. I have received over $1,000 in gift cards plus about 20 meal vouchers. No problems so far - everything arrives within a week of order, the credit is posted to my account like clockwork, and I even got a check for $10 after my first order. Definitely one of the best things I have done - YMMV

Our Park Hoppers came from HSC and so have our meal vouchers. We've not had any problems. Our friends who are travelling with us to WDW had some problems with the hoppers but all if correct now. The problems were solved after one phone call. I'm sure it can be the luck of the draw. I will continue to use them as long as the service is good.
