I am not even going to post the details of the offer that is in the latest Mousesavers email newsletter. I can only say I hope that it's a one time thing that's being done to get rid of distressed points!

Well, no, MouseSavers is NOT renting DVC points. My site does not sell anything. It never has. MouseSavers provides FREE information -- that's it.

In today's MouseSavers Newsletter is an offer from David's Vacation Club Rentals. The same company is a sponsor here on the DIS Boards. Why is this so upsetting to you? I am completely puzzled by the tone of your post.

I think the OP was insenuating that the offer was so good that she was hoping it was a distressed point situation and not the new market for renting points.

Sorry, Mary, I edited the title of the post.

I love getting the Mousesavers emails.

While I dont subscribe to your newsletter, I think your web site rocks!

David has sales at least a few times a year with very cheap points for rent (like $7-8) - he sends them out by e-mail himself if you subscribe to his newsletter. They are normally just for SSR and have short usage terms (like the e-mail comes out and they have to be booked & used within the next month or so). I didn't read the Mousesavers newsletter yet but I'm guessing it's just the same thing.

The "low price" that OP is upset about...

There are points for rent on the rent trade board for the same price. And the majority were just a buck or two over that price

SORRY, but based on what I have seen I would never recommend anyone pay more then about $10 to $11 a point and I would suggest they try for lower. That's just what the market pays right now IMHO!

I think that it is okay for point price to vary according to several things.
For example, if a owner is offering to book at a popular resort during prime time, especially at a smaller resort, then there may be a greater demand for the resort.

For larger resorts, you will see usually lower prices for points.
If it is a last minute reservation, the price per point is usually lower. If an owner has time to still bank points, then he may ask higher prices per point, knowing if the price is not met, then banking is still an option.

Also, depending on the terms of the rental may affect the price. If an renter is using Paypal, but there is no "charge", then the owner may prefer to recoup this in the price per point or if an owner is willing to offer refunds or payment plans over a longer period, this might be considered in the price.

Although I have rented for $10 to $12 per point, I once asked $16 per point for a reservation (had to cancel within the 30-day period) at the concierge level during Christmas holidays and easily got a renter.
