Mousekeeping tips?

We live $1 per person per day ($4) and put it in envelope with Disney stickers on it along with date and "Thanks from the Cox Family." We usually leave it on a pillow at the foot of the bed or around the sink-somewhere that they always do work at.

What do you mean by always had extras waiting for you? WOndering if mousekeeping goes above and beyond for tipping rooms (as Im sure there are many who dont tip either, ) I think the tipping ideas mentioned are thoughtful, but also feel like paying deluxe rate ($400-$2000+/nite) (our next trip $5000 room only for 1 week) my room should be cleaned w/out having to worry about tipping/leaving notes every day while Im trying to get my kids out the door...

I don't think that they go around only doing for someone who has tipped them...I think they appreciate the thoughtfullness and want to show their apreciation!
I have never felt like any CM's were walking around with their hands out, waiting to be tipped. I have many times had to catch the Bellman walking out the door trying to tip him.
If you don't think you should tip, then don't feel like you have to or you are the only one who doesn't.
I am so excited when I am at Disneyworld and when we have good service and a great hotel, we love giving tips.....makes us feel like we are returning some of the Disney Magic to those around us. :goodvibes

is it better to leave the tips daily or to tip for the whole trip... I mean are there different people each day, or is it usually the same person?

It's better to leave something every day since different mousekeepers may be working each day. :)

Just a thought - I made up envelopes for our last trip with the tips in them and the housekeepers never took them. I don't think they knew what they were. After that I just put the money on a piece of paper that said HOUSEKEEPING or FOR THE MAID. Then they took it.
I'm thinking some of the help might not speak very good English - and some of these fancy envelopes, while thoughtful, might not be understood.

I had never thought of tipping housekeeping at a hotel, until I read an article in the USA Today last week. The article and this thread have certainly changed my viewpoint. Thanks to all you DISer's for enlightening me.
