Mousekeeping Tip?

I'm leaving for my first Solo trip next month (YAY!!). What should I tip mouskeeping? Last time we did $1/person, but that was when I had my whole family. I would feel cheap giving only $1 a day. But I think $5 is too much. I'm not messy, will only use one bed and will basically just need new towels.

Same here! Sometimes I'll add a little gift from my home state (Texas pen, magnet, pkg of blue bonnet seeds, etc).

Just subscribing. This is great learning material to learn about what is "normall" tipping in the usa.

The little gift from aubriee sounds like a nice extra. They will have some extra nuisance with me in a room and allthough it "is their job", this is a nice way to show appreciation. I'm definately using that idea.

I usually tip all at once at the end of the trip. Is it better to tip a little bit each day?

I think sometimes people like to tip each day, so that the mousekeepers will know that they are going to be tipped. Sometimes I feel like if I wait until the end, they might think I am not going to be tipping them at all. I really think it's just a matter of preference.

I also tip each day. Your mousekeeper could change from day to day and if you waited until the end of your trip, people that you meant to get your tip may not receive it.

As a retired houskeeper of a busy BWestern I need you all to know how grateful we were to see a little 'something' if only to aknowledge that we exist! magical spells did not pick up the sopping wet towels !

I also tip $2 a day when I go solo. I've been told that mousekeeping is not a tip position, actually read it on a brochure when I stayed at AKL, but I feel funny not leaving a tip.

Something I started a few years ago during one of my stays is I would leave $2 per day plus any spare change I have in my pockets or just laying around. After a day touring parks or other areas I always seem to have change filling up my pocket. I usually leave that along with the $2.

We always tip the mousekeepers. It is just my dh and myself so we don't leave a miss really to speak of and we tips a dollar a day per person. If I went solo it would be two dollars a day anyway.
I love making out the mousekeeping envelopes ahead of time. I write or put stickers on it that says mousekeeping and I put my two dollars in it. Than when we get to the resort I simply put them in my drawer. I pull one out each night so I don't forget in the morning. You can get ideas for mousekeeping envolpes on www.mouseforless.com. I'm very curious about the tipping at WDW. I always tip when I stay at any hotel. Well, I just returned from a week at the Polynesian. On my first 3 days there, I left a $3 tip out on the desk each day. It was never taken and was left there each day. After the 3rd day, I gave up and figured that they do not accept tips at this hotel. Any idea why?

Yes they accept tips however if the money wasn't marked for mousekeeping than they won't take it. Did you mark it somehow?

Yep. Disney is pretty strict about that. I've even left notes and not had it taken. I thinkt he best way is to use a small envelope or paperclip it to a piece of paper that explicitly says "Mousekeeping" on it.

While I am sorry they did not get the tip, I am happy to see that the Mousekeepers follow regulations well. It adds a good bit of respect to the position which, ironically, should be MORE deserving of a tip.
