At the risk of sounding like a germaphobe...
How does mousekeeping deal with dishes/utensils when cleaning rooms between guests ? Do they put everything in the dishwasher or change everything or trust that the guests before had washed everything before they put it away:scared1: ?

Hi germaphobe...
:rotfl2:

They are supposed to put all items in the washer...but I/we usually run (re-run) everything prior to use.

HTH

No way does housekeeping take all the dishes out of the cupboards and run them through the dishwasher - even if they are supposed to, I don't believe it.

I'm over my germaphobia - unless I can see that it's dirty, I use it, LOL. So far, so good!

I wash everything that we normally use through the dishwasher before we use them.

Thank you everybody - now I know first thing I'll be doing is a big load in the dishwasher:laundy: <---- pretend it's dishes ;)

ya i'd do that too - not like it would take too much time to do and then the are clean and pretty and readdy for use when you come back.

I agree, I can't imagine them taking dishes out of the cupboards. Not only a waste of water & electricity but also the time factor. I usually put the dishwasher on before I leave the room at checkout, so they know what's in there is clean.

Me too!

Kinda become a little ritual upon checking in. Load up the dishwasher, clean/run jacuzzi & wash blankets while unpacking (actually bringing our own sheets this trip). Then head over to Winn Dixie to stock up.

It has been reported from time to time on this board that people have seen mousekeeping doing just this. Someone recently reported about leaving something in their room after checking out, and when they went back mousekeeping was pulling dishes out of the cupboard into the dishwasher.

Do they do it every time? Hard to say, and there have also been reports of obviously dirty dishes stored in the cupboards when people check in.

Bottom line...if it's important to you, go ahead and wash the dishes. But to do every dish, utensil and piece of cookware is probably several dishwasher loads and will most likely use more dishwasher soap than Disney provides. We visually inspect things, and as stated if we don't see obvious crud we just roll with it. :)

I follow the "no obvious crud" we roll with it rule too. I have rented condos for years(non-DVC) and to be honest I can't remember finding anything with the obvious crud. No I don't use the pots and pans, but I would look at them and possible rewash them before use. Glasses, plates, silverware no problem.

Could one of you germophobes stop by my house on your way to or from WDW? It could use a good cleaning. :lmao:

The few times I stayed in a 1 or 2 bedroom the dishes weren't an issue. The studios are another story entirely. I now routinely remove all cups & glasses and whatever else from the cupboards and wash them myself. I've found glasses with lipstick all over them, glasses with greasy crud and who knows what, coffee cups that have obviously not been washed. I called mousekeepeng once to complain & decided that I was better off just doing it myself. They came and sprayed something on that dishes and then proceeded to handwash everything. I have since noticed that they have posted in the room that the dishes provided are not cleaned according to Hotel Sanitizing Regulations for regular Hotel Rooms. What I don't get is how difficult is it to replace the 4 glasses & 4 Mugs after each guest checks out of a Studio with ones that have been properly cleaned. I can't tell you how many times I have found at least one glass that is severely cracked or chipped. If they fill the Dishwasher in the other units thet should be cleaning the items in the Studios also.

Wow being the germaphobe that I am I'm surprised I haven't thought of this yet! :rotfl2: Maybe I would of when I take my first trip home this Sept. Anyway if you take the just visually inspect it route you should be fine. Because really how do you know the dishes you eat off of in restaurants have been cleaned properly? There are probably several occasions that we all have eaten off of less then clean plates and not known it. On the other hand if you feel like washing them go for it. ;)
