Mousekeeping Envelopes

We also tip the mousekeepers daily, like others have said, your room is more tended to. I remember last year the corner of our room by the table was a DISASTER AREA!!! we were just throwing Disney bag after disney bag there with gifts in them, without gifts in them, you name it....well we come home that night and the corner is spotless, she put our souveniers on the TV cabinet, some near the closet, near the luggage, it was like she knew which ones were gifts and which ones were for our kids. That is the special attention you get when you tip everyday.

I've received really poor service from the housekeepers even when I was tipping every day, and I've received great service from housekeepers now that I no longer tip. There is apparently no relationship between the gratuity and the service provided.

You should always tip housekeeping, in any hotel. Cleaning hotel rooms for a living is really a crappy job, and often comes with crappy pay and crappy benefits.

We left Mousekeeping $3-$5 every day (depending on what change we remembered to get in a park) out on a bed pillow, with no note, and it was always gone when we came back. We noticed no difference on the two days we forgot to tip, and tipped extra the next day even though we were pretty sure it would be a different Mousekeeper then. I always feel really bad when I forget to do it.

You think cleaning air conditioned hotel rooms is a crappy job with crappy pay and crappy benefits? Just imagine how crappy it is to have to clean the hot, humid bathrooms in the theme parks -- now THAT'S a crappy job with crappy pay and crappy benefits!!! :lmao:

I went to the extra effort to make cute little envelopes w/ little notes for Mousekeeping, I filled them w/ $5.00 per day and gave them on a daily basis.
Now for my next trip.........no way!!! I will still tip however no cutie envelopes that take too much of my time because honestly, our mousekeeping on our last trip was marginal. I am sorry, when you pay the $$ for a deluxe hotel I expect them to clean the room not just make the beds and and replenish towels. They should clean old room service garbage, vacuum under the beds so we don't find stuff from the previous inhabitant, replenish used shampoo/and stuff and if they notice we are a good size family at least give us enough towels for each person. I pick up after my family and keep everything together so they don't come into a disaster. Also if I leave my drycleaning in the special bag and follow the directions to the T, they should too, not leave them sitting there till I return at night-then there is no hope of getting my clothes back by the next day that I planned on needing. I had to call them a couple times and they promised up and down they would be at my room right away....never came. Too much to ask?

I did not even ask for towel animals-just basic cleaning!!
:rotfl2:
Anyway-no envelopes, all they care about is the $ anyway. Just MHO

I disagree. I have seen a huge difference when tipping. It should not be so but it seems to make a difference. Even without a difference I still would tip. . . I just think it is the right thing to do.

I know on my last trip we didn't tip and the rooms weren't very clean. It was like this:
The bedspread was just straightened (the sheets were how we left them the night before), crumbs were still on the floor, towels still thrown on the floor...

I'm not saying the bad service was from not tipping... but I didn't except much because we didn't tip. So service can be bad either way I guess.

I Just leave the tip under the little card that gives the housekeepers name...I don't write anything down, they know I am thanking them by giving a tip and appreciate what they do :thumbsup2

I have never seen the point of tipping housekeeping for doing their job. I tip for personal service from a person that I see doing something for me eg servers in restaurants. I would certainly tip a bellboy if I chose to use that service, although I usually dont use it. But when I pay for a hotel room, I expect a clean room. If its not, I will ask for another one. If I ask for something special eg extra towels, I would tip then.

The point of tipping is that it is part of the expectations for the service rendered. In the case of Disney housekeeping, there is no such expectation, because Disney's housekeepers aren't tipped employees. It isn't really a matter of whehter or not you see the servers perform their service for you, though.

What's the point in bumping up a thread that is just about a year old on an issue you disagree with? I think everything's been said already. :confused3

I have a question about tipping concierge staff that I hope someone can answer. Last year we stayed club level and are doing so again this year but I am clueless as to whether or not to tip them. They made no ressies and we didn't have any special requests but should I of tipped them at the end anyways and who would it go to? The cm who checked us in? What if they do make us a ressie this year or help us out in some special way, do I tip them right then and there or wait until the end of our stay and maybe put it in a card??? Thanks in advance for any replies!!!
Kathy

Actually, I am glad this was bumped. After reading the tip poll I remembered I wanted to make envelopes, now I can bookmark the links.

One time when we were at Disney, we left a tip out daily for Mousekeeping, but they never took it. So I think having the envelopes would be great so that they know, yes the money is for them.

There have been many discussions about this, in many online discussion forums.. you might want to check the archives. It was such a hot topic that a few years ago we asked the General Manager of the BoardWalk resort to clarify. He made it clear that housekeepers are not tipped personnel. They're "supposed" to decline tips, but no one polices that, and you won't get anyone in trouble if you leave an extra gift for the housekeepers and they take it. However, you surely shouldn't feel compelled to leave them anything. My personal preference, considering giving a little extra something to folks doing a really hard job in really tough conditions, would be to tip the folks who clean the theme park bathrooms. I wonder if someone could make up envelopes for that for me.

And the funny thing is I asked the manager of the Poly. He said to feel free to tip mousekeepers and that they get to keep whatever they get for themselves.

Disney is often inconsistent with the info it puts out to guests, like that. It's the difference between smiles and good feelings versus hard, cold reality (something Disney often likes to window dress, hide, obfuscate, or otherwise). Forwarned is forarmed.

We made our own! I just printed labels for each that said "Thanks Mousekeeping" and then let DD decorate them with Disney stickers
